The book was okay but not my favourite. It wasant what i expected and is abit slow to beginning for the book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
This was rather disappointing, sadly. :( I liked some of the stories well enough, but then something wildly out of character happened and I was really thrown off. This could probably have benefited a lot from a bit more editing!
This is such a beautiful selection of stories. Honestly this was romance the way I wish people had taught me about as a kid, not focused on kissing or the color of hair or the gender of the person, but simply loving the people who care for us. Falling in love over time, small moments, big realizations, every single story in this was different and beautiful. I would love for anyone to read this book. These stories show the beauty in being outside of normal.
Like I mentioned in my previous review, books that represent identities that are systemically and systematically marginalized are important and they are necessary, especially those written by people who belong to these underrepresented groups. That is a fact, and it has nothing to do with the authors' writing style or whether the plot was interesting to readers or not. I will keep saying this even though it is obvious to some, because it is not obvious to others.
Now, that being said, I am not 100% sure that Meet. Cute. Awkward is fully own-voices, and I say this because I distinctly remember a story written by a person with a name that is typically male, but it featured a sapphic relationship. I'm not discrediting the entire book, or even this story, but I prefer clarifying this since some readers (me included) prefer their queer reads written by people who identify with the groups represented in their stories.
I am not much of a short story collection reader. I prefer novels that focus on a few characters, who we can follow and witness how the plot develops in depth. That could be a reason why I didn't really connect with most of the stories in this collection. It could've also been a matter of how they were arranged, since it opens with a fantastical story, then goes on to a post-apocalyptic one, and I'm pretty sure the third one is about superheroes. It was too much for me, and I had to take several breaks. The other stories are realistic, so I felt like I was reading a completely different literary piece. Still, I didn't really feel connected to any of the stories and wasn't left wanting to know more from the characters.
I didn’t love it. Hard to get through. Very awkward and cringe. I wanted to love it, but I just didn’t.

My feelings on this short story collection are rather... mixed. Some of the stories were good and others less-good, but I think my issue as a whole with this collection is that it felt lacking in cohesion. Pretty much the only thing that ties all of these stories together is that they feature a queer couple. Which, great! I love queer books! But... what else does it offer? The stories are wildly varying in genre, and you get some pretty big differences in tone, as well. This made it difficult for me to pick up the next story sometimes because I didn't have any idea what I would get, and I found that a little exhausting. I also ended up being slightly confused by the title of the collection, as I was promised meetcutes but then in a good number of the stories we open with characters who already know each other.
Of the collection, I would say these stories were the highlights:
Trim by Kayla Whittle
And So She Returned by Ashe Thurman
Toppings by Morven Moeller
Oh No! It's a Lacy Thong!!! by Zahra Jons
this was a disappointing read really. the first story was enjoyable, i liked the world building of that one and the second story. I wasn't that into the second story, but enjoyed the dystopian/post apocalyptic genre and world. most of the short story main characters were just really unlikable, did things that didn't make any sense and threw me out of the story. there were a few i liked the start of until the MC did something completely out of character. it could have done with further editing as well, there were a lot of errors and sentences that didn't make sense, generally strange sentence structures. feels haphazardly thrown together for the sake of publishing. I also don't really feel like a lot of the stories met the title name/blurb really. most of these weren't meet-awkwards, they already knew the love interest a lot of the time, or it wasn't even awkward it was just weird/off putting.
I really wanted to love this book based on the title alone, but I couldn't even get past the first sentence before immediately shutting the book and saying no. The premise and idea was great, it just wasn't for me.
Beautiful. I really enjoyed reading these stories! Love is love! I would recommend this book to my friends I’m sure they would enjoy it as much as I did.
Delightful.
This anthology was full of smiles. There's a sweetness and universality to these love stories even though many of them use speculative settings. I found myself engaged and rooting for love while reading. Specifically, the story about the florist and the bureaucrat was just fun. Don't read this looking for conflict and action, read it for a cozy hug.

While some of the stories in this were funny and cute, I didn't enjoy it that much.
It was easy to read but a few of the stories didn't seem long enough for what they were about
Seriously the cutest stories. My favorite was Blast and Brazen and The Most Wonderful Time of The Year. Definitely a must read bunch of stories that I really enjoyed. I couldn’t get enough of it!
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC.
I thoroughly loved the cringe and awkwardness of it all but one story resonated deeply. Ashe Thurman really captivated that sick anxious feeling of fire and ice inside your skin when you find out the girl you’ve been pining for comes out to you ever so casually it’s almost cruel, I will keep Charlotte and Alyssa’s tiny world in my heart forever. Maybe it’s wish fulfillment on me…but it was cute. awkward,
As with any collection some shined brighter than others but these eight were all pretty even to me.
