This is a fun children’s fold out book teaching kids what the word Shalom means. Shalom means hello, so in the morning Sheep says Shalom to all of her other animal friends, “Shalom Cat” “Meow, Shalom Sheep” says Cat. But Shalom means other things too and Sheep can use the word Shalom to say other things to her friends.

I love how simple and fun this picture book is. At first, after downloading this from NetGalley and giving it a quick read I wasn’t sure what to think of this book as much of the images seemed squashed and the formatting on the shelf app wasn’t brilliant. But it wasn’t until I found out that that this is a fold-out book (and I was viewing it wrongly) that I realised that this book is in fact a fun read for children with some fun repetition and the chance to see Sheep and her friends repeat the word Shalom many times to each other while using it to mean different things.

The book is very simple for young children, but I love how it teaches the basic three meanings for the word ‘Shalom’: hello, goodbye and peace. As Sheep greets each of the animals in turn, the book pages can be slowly unfolded to show a large image of all of the different animals and Sheep saying “Shalom” to each in turn. I love how colourful and fun all of the illustrations are, and how fun some of the animal interactions are especially seeing Sheep with Duck. The last page shows a cute image of Sheep at night and it’s a lovely way to finish the story.

Overall this is a very simple but fun looking picture book with pages that fold out which can create extra fun for children looking through it. Although there is not much of an actual story in the book, for those wanting to teach young kids what the word ‘Shalom’ can mean, it’s a lovely introduction to that and it’s just a shame that this wasn’t formatted a little better from the netgalley download I have as it’s a little hard to see all the different images, but I’ve tried my best to try to share with you some images of Sheep with her friends to show you what it looks like. J A fun kids picture book.

In this ultra, ultra-wide screen book, our sheep hero goes past all the other animals on the farm in the morning wishing them hello with the word 'Shalom' and then uses the same word for goodbye as he returns. You judge whether people of the target age need to be confused with words meaning polar opposites, but one thing is for certain – this colourful and pretty volume will at least get very young paws used to dealing with books. Beyond that it is a quick lesson in some basic animal noises, and of course the word at hand, and I suppose those lessons, while not precisely my priority, are achieved.

Cute book but nothing special. It didn't really stand out as something I needed on my shelves, but also not a bad book.

Sheep Says Shalom by Ann D. Koffsky is a beautifully written and illustrated book for young ones. The Sheep says, “Shalom” to everyone he comes in contact with. I believe this book would be fun to read in any setting. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.

I'm not sure if my copy was complete as it was only four pages, including the title page. A bit confused, tbh!

Ann D Koffsky’s Sheep Says Shalom is a lovely, sweet, and short picture book that gently introduces little readers to Hebrew.

This easy-to-read and simple story follows a day in the life of a sweet little sheep who lives on a farm. As Sheep goes through her day, she interacts with her farm animal friends. Her daily activities explore the multiple meanings of the word “Shalom.” The word has three different meanings: hello, goodbye, and peace.

The very short sentences and simple dialogue are kid-friendly with approachable words. The comforting repetition as well as the familiar animal sounds will make this book a fun treat for young readers to read aloud. I also like how this book very gently, simply, and effectively introduces kids to a new language (Hebrew) and Jewish culture.

I absolutely love the super cute and colourful illustrations! I love all the joyfully drawn farm animals. Sheep is so sweet and fuzzy with her happy and friendly face! I love her fun and playful interactions with the other animals: I especially love the cheerful splashing duck and the cat chilling in the tree!

Thank you to the publisher for permitting me to review the ARC for Sheep Says Shalom. This book is delightful. The farm animal illustrations are bright and joyful. The repetition and simple text is going to make this a well-loved book. The fact that it also introduces children to the word Shalom is an added bonus. It's the perfect bedtime book.

This is a simple, basic introduction to the meaning of the word shalom. I think it's an excellent starting point for discussion and can also be used with younger ages to review basic vocabulary such as animals, etc.

I requested this book because I have two kids and they love Jewish books and also books with sheep so it seemed like the perfect book to teach them what shalom means. And maybe it would do that but honestly, I read it and didn't expect it to be so short and kind of confusing to read on my kindle. This was my first time reading an advanced copy of a children's book which I found challenging to read on my kindle with so few pictures and I feel like some of the text might have been slightly out of order? Overall, I just found this confusing. Although I would be curious to see a final product, I don't think this would hold my kids' attention for very long unfortunately.

This book is so cute! I loved the illustrations. It does a great job of teaching kids what Shalom means, which opens a conversation with their parents about different cultures and language. That’s amazing! I think this book takes a familiar setting and adds a new word to it, which is great.
