I'm sorry, but I was unable to get into this novel. I've been a longtime fan of Danielle Steel and I'm saddened this book just didn't pull me in. I wish you, and Danielle, much success upon it's release.
The Palazzo follows the life of Cosima Saverio as she has assumed responsibly of raising her younger siblings, running the family's generation owned purse company as well as a palazzo that has been in the family for over four-hundred Palazzo and she is only 23 years old. Her sister Allegra survived the accident that took her parents lives but it has left her in a wheelchair. Her brother Luca takes the sense of entitlement to a whole new level and is only concerned with his monthly allowance, the casino and how he can make fast money.
Olivier Bayard is the owner of a ready-made purse company but would love to have a high-end company like Saverio. Cosima and Olivier have a brief conversation at a party at the Palazzo. They have no idea how much they have in common until they find out that Luca and Olivier's son have become friends at the casino and are both headed down a path of destruction.
Danielle Steel returns to her original style of writing with a tragedy in the beginning, hopelessness feeling throughout and that little light of hope that gets brighter throughout the novel. Her development of characters leaves the reader feeling that they have new family members and are ready to visit the Palazzo by the end of the novel.
Thank you NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine, Delacorte Press and Danielle Steel for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Danielle Steel has always been a go to author for me. Her books feel like coming home.
However, in the past few years some of her stories have been hit or miss for me. Unfortunately, Palazzo was one of them.
In Palazzo, we are introduced to two families; the Saverio’s of Italy and the Bayard’s in France. Cosima Saverio is the oldest of three siblings and works very hard to maintain the integrity and history of her family’s high-end and exclusive leather business. In addition, she and her brother and sister own equal shares of the Venetian palazzo that has been in her family for generations. The problem is that her brother, Luca, is a womanizing gambler who has never worked a day in his life and is causing never ending monetary problems resulting in putting both the business and the palazzo at risk. Enter into the fray, Olivier Bayard, who owns and runs a highly successful mass market leather purse company in Paris.
The story felt very predictable and almost like I had read this book before. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Kudos to Danielle Steel for another wonderfully captivating story. Everything about this book was amazing. I have always wanted to go to Italy. This book made me feel like I had. As the head of the Saverio family, Cosima is forever striving to uphold the familial traditions amid turmoil and unexpected betrayal. This book is highly recommended.
Thank you Danielle Steel, Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
Italy! One can take an armchair trip to Italy with this captivating story in the midst of a high end fashion family. This book took you to Rome, Venice and Paris. I have heard of Italian craftsmanship and this story pulled you into part of that world. I liked that the characters were successful and came from money but were very relatable and down to earth. There was family drama and some tragedy woven into the story that made it very interesting. I read this in one sitting and admit to a crush on one of the main characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a more mature romance with a lot of heart.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book. I love Danielle Steel books and this one did not dissapoint. I will be visiting Italy shortly and I love the references and reading the dynamics of this family.
I highly recommend this book.
This story follows the typical Danielle Steel layout - long, descriptive paragraphs that lay the setting for the first third of the book, and then progression of the story line with a conflict and eventual resolution. This story introduces us to Cosima, an Italian young woman who now leads her family's business after her parents were killed. Beyond learning the business, she also needs to provide guidance to her wild younger brother and her youngest sister who was severely injured in the accident and now requires a wheelchair.
Cosima holds on to family traditions and locations, including a historic palazzo that the family has fond memories of. She eventually meets Olivier who runs a handbag company that is a lower tier of products than hers. Olivier becomes a source of comfort and a great listening ear as more and more challenges arise.
This is my second ever Danielle Steele book and this is what I’ve discovered. She has a good story about a woman who has faced tragedy after tragedy and must let go of the past to move on to the future,, The problem is the writing is hard to get through. The pages are so repetitive with information that has already been disseminated. I found myself scanning for the dialogue to keep the story moving which for the most part worked beautifully.
Palazzo by Danielle Steel Family drama with well developed characters and fascinating descriptions of Rome and Venice. Cosima and Olivier respect and uphold family traditions while preserving family relationships. Allegra is simply adorable and Luca and Max are the epitome of egotistical scoundrals. Entertaining read.
Thank you to the author, Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, and Netgalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
A fantastic new novel from the queen of storytelling!! I will admit at first this one had me wondering if I would enjoy it but by the third chapter I was obsessed and read it in two settings. Fascinating characters and locales, a dash of intrigue to keep things interesting, a hidden love affair and finally a huge gift that could have went either way if you ask me...this one turned out to be very special and brought a few tears to my eyes (which Danielle Steel has a habit of).
Novel set in Italy. Cosima is in charge of her sister and brother after her parents are killed. Her brother is a ne'er do well and Cosima things she has to constantly clean up after him which causes significant stress and financial distress. Don't worry, a dashing Frenchman show up to rescue her.
This has me in a hard spot because the earlier book was good. But I wouldn’t be recommending it to everyone in my community. And the same holds true for this story. The enjoyable parts were the setting in Italy. The main character family drama was the reason I continued this story. I did not connect with the love story. The main character in her twenties falling in love with a married man in his seventies felt icky to me. But I think it is gross purely because he is her dad’s best friend and watched her grow up and had eyes on her as a child. The final love story was predictable and felt underwhelming.
But the predictability of this story and repeating concepts from earlier stories was disappointing.
But this concept might be a huge selling point for her fans. If you are looking for the predictability factor of a romance story by this author, then 100% this checks the boxes.
**spoiler alert**
The concept of a successful rich blond haired blue eyes woman, in her late 30s early 40s who has given up on marriage, by the end of the story has fallen for a rich rescuer in his 50s. I would like a little change up between stories. Maybe at the very least a change in the main characters’ appearance or ages.
Danielle Steel books always deliver a solid story of rebuilding after tragedy strikes. The formula has worked for years and so it plays out in this novel as well.
What I liked about this one is the setting. This is one of those books that would be perfect to read on a vacation, beach day or a day where you just want to live vicariously through characters in an exotic location that you always wanted to visit. I have always been fascinated with Italy and Venice in particular so it definitely appealed to me.
This is a quick read and I think it is the perfect length for a story like this.
I would like to see a little more blue collar everyday people in some of the books by Ms. Steel soon. I would love to see her take on the everyday person rather than the wealthy or business characters.
This book is definitely a sure hit with Steel fans!
Danielle Steel does not write mysteries, and anyone who has read her novels just goes along for the ride. Palazzo is no different, although the settings in Italy and France are a big plus for Palazzo. From the beginning, I knew where Palazzo was headed, but that was just fine with me. Steel writes lovely sweet romances, and we all need a bit of romance in our lives. I am a big mystery buff, but sometimes a romance is a nice way to just relax and enjoy the journey.
Palazzo is not a long book, but it still held my attention all the way through. I knew where the romances were headed, who was dying, who was getting married, and who was finally going to get a long overdue and much deserved comeuppance. The characters were fun and easy to keep straight. The plot, while not challenging, was still an enjoyable read. I love Venice, and I liked this novel and definitely recommend it to any Danielle Steel fan, and so I am going to rate it for Steel-romance fans.
Thank you to the author and to Steel's publishers, Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Delacorte Press, for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest review. What can I say--I liked Palazzo. Thank you also to NetGalley for bringing Palazzo to my attention.
This is the story of the Saverio family and their relationships. Cosima is the head of the family after her parents are killed and her younger sister ends up in a wheel chair. Allegra is all joy even though she has ended up in a wheel chair and Luca is the black sheep of the family, always out for himself and never taking responsibility for any of his choices. There is comfort in the predictability of a Steel book. They are always entertains with a happy ending. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
Danielle Steel brings us the story of the Saverio family. Their family name is known worldwide and it comes as a shock when the lives of the parents of the family perish in an accident and youngest daughter Allegra as the only survivor. Oldest daughter Cosima becomes the matriarch of the family keeping the business afloat while trying to keep her family together. Brother Luca becomes the picture of the rich boy whose sister gets him out of all of his troubles. When money becomes stronger than his family bonds, it forces Cosima to do the unthinkable and sell their family palazzo. As events become to unfold, Cosima must decide whether it is worth fighting a losing battle or come up with another way to save her family, the business, and their livelihoods.
Danielle Steel brings us another story of family and love. She shares how out of tragedy can bring love and joy as this family struggles to find their place within the world and their family. We see how each member of this family deals with the aftermath of the death of their parents and how differently they cope with it. You want to see if their dynamics will change and it keeps you turning the page until you realize that you have reached the end.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Delacorte Press for this privilege.
Another engaging and enthralling novel by the phenomenal Danielle Steel. After the death of her parents, Cosuma takes over the family business with her sister, Allegra, working for her, but Luca, the brother doesn't want to work and instead gambles profusely and parties nonstop. Olivier's family business is smaller but does extremely well. When Cosuma and Olivier's sons meet, tragedy occurs.
Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written with captivating characters, and a must read riveting story captivating the reader from the first page of the story until the last page of the story.
Palazzo by Daniel Steel tells the story of the Saverio family and their legacy in the leather goods business in Italy. When tragedy strikes, eldest daughter Cosima must step in as leader of the family and the business and refuses to let the standards of the family business slide.
In Paris, Olivier Bayard runs a successful business that may not be high quality but turns a profit, though he dreams of running a successful luxury brand. He has admired the Saverio brand from afar and hopes to buy into it.
Fate and greed bring Cosima and Olivier together, first in a chance meeting and then after her brother Luca and his son Max team up in a scam.
I enjoyed this book and found it to be a quick read.
Thank you to Randon House Publishing Group- Ballantine and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
This was a good read but it was very repetitive. While also compelling, it was very predictable. Cosima takes over family business after a tragedy. Through twists and turns she comes out where she's supposed to be.
Another amazing book by Danielle Steel, this one was so easy to get lost in from beginning to end. Three siblings who lost their parents have grown up together and Cosima runs the family business along with her sister, their brother doesn't work and parties/gambles constantly and just has a horrible attitude.
The family business is leather goods that is based on tradition, Cosima works hard to get the business back on its feet after her parents die, her brother keeps getting trouble with gambling and he always expects her to bail him out.but then he gets in alot of trouble and goes to prison. The sisters continue to work with the business and expand some of their ideas and increase their business.
During the years they both work hard, make new friends and business associates, both girls find exactly what they have always needed to life life to the fullest. This book has lots of family drama, love and romance, with secrets revealed and lots of happy moments for both sisters. Definitely had the best endings for both sisters.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC!!
