Some interesting ideas in this collection, with a few stand-out stories like the one about the woman who brings home a bear (*Parks and Wildlife*), as well as the story from which the title of the collection comes, *Best of All Possible Worlds*. Although this was an enjoyable enough read, I didn’t connect with the collection as much as I had hoped; I think I’ve come to expect much more from Weird Fiction, and not enough of these stories delivered. Perhaps another reader would enjoy them more.
Thank you to NetGalley and to Livingston Press for the ARC.
I received an advanced reader’s copy from netgalley in exchange for my honest opinions.
I wanted to like this one way more than I did. I liked the zombie ant fungus but felt the ending was abrupt. I wouldn’t mind seeing that one fleshed out some more. Most of the other ones just felt like these weird disconcerting dreams you wake up from, and you can’t remember what the dream was about and you aren’t sure you want to. I thought the one with Wendell was going to be funny and it just didn’t hit any marks for me.
So I don’t think I would read this one again, but I’m glad I could get thru this is one sitting and finish it. Usually, with collections of short stories it wets the appetite for by that author and gives you a feel for the type of stories they tell- this just didn't do it for me
All We Could Have Been and More contains a collection of short stories that fluctuate in quality from great to what the heck is going on.
Test Zombie, Kill him, and Bed. Just Right would be my favourites, although there will be a lot of different viewpoints leading undoubtedly to discussions in book clubs.
An independent review for NetGalley / Livingston Press
Usually I really like anthologies and short stories, and while there where a couple of those that I really like in here, for the most part I got a bit lost it was a bit of a mishmash of themes all jumbled together here.
While this was not my favourite collection around here, I know that probably someone will love, you’ll get some really good and others that you probably wont love that much, but is always worth to give it a try.
Thank you NetGalley and Livingston Press at the University of West Alabama for the free ARC and this is my honest opinion.
