This book was too freaking cute. It literally made my day so much brighter. I had a fun time reading it. I will warn you that this rom-com read is more about the vibes than the plot. If you enjoy reading about cute rom-com books, then you will enjoy reading this one.
Full review to come on Goodreads and Amazon. Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for a review copy
Crazy Bao You follows Kimmie who has a video of her go viral, but also runs her own Etsy store. We also follow Matt who is a firefighter in New York, and has bought a bag for his nana from Kimmie’s store. The two start talking and spark up a relationship, despite a case of mistaken identity.
I thought the whole accidental catfish part went on a bit too long, and that throughout the book anything that went a but awry was resolved much too quickly, and everything seemed to be too good to be true and working itself out too well, but it did make for a good fluffy read. I liked seeing where the story was going, and thought the whole part of Kimmie meeting her birth mum was really interesting, and I wish it had been explored a bit more!
I liked how supportive Kimmie and Matt were of eachother, they both really needed it - Kimmie needed a push to try something new and Matt needed a support sustem, especially since his dad wasn’t all thst supportive of him being a firefighter, as he left the family company.
Overall, Crazy Bao You was a quick, lighthearted read that explored various things from mistaken identity, discovering your heritage and fineding your place in the world. I am giving Crazy Bao You 3 stars.
Such a cute fun rom com. I loved the characters and the main couple were adorable I will be recommending this one! It was a good easy read.

After the last disaster of a book i think this one was really what I needed... This book is all about cute and some funny moments and all witty comebacks... Of course with a lot of laughter and crazy stuff going on..
Kimmie an Etsy shop owner from Oklahoma and Matt a DFNY firefighter from New York feels instantly connected and attracted to each other after just a few conversations on internet...
However Kimmie is hiding her recent fame from her video that had gone viral about her twerking while quitting her last job...
While Matt being unaware of her actual identity offers her to partner with his father's retail shop ( which is huge for Kim) but in order to get that chance she needs to come clean about her identity ( which is also a cute multicultural chaos) and being a viral infamous sensation along with all the misunderstanding and mishaps caused because of it...
Will Kim be brave enough to accept her true identity ???
What will happen when Matt and his father will learn the truth of Kim being the viral sensation???
Go and grab this one as soon as it realases on 6th June to know what happens with a dose of laughter and cute moments....
Toodles💕
Thank you Netgalley for giving me access to Crazy Bao You by Lyn Liao.
My honest opinion about Crazy Bao You, the book was just okay. It has a cute title and storyline. I don't think it was a very well written story.
This was a very good book. I enjoyed reading it. The characters and plot kept me interested. I would read another book by this author.
If you're in the mood for a heartwarming rom-com that's as sweet as it is hilarious, look no further than "Crazy Bao You" by Lyn Liao Butler. This delightful tale follows the unconventional romance between Kimmie Park, an Etsy shop owner from Oklahoma, and Matt West, a charming FDNY firefighter from New York.
From the moment Kimmie and Matt meet—virtually, that is—the sparks fly faster than you can say "bacon-wrapped bao." But with Kimmie hiding behind a screen and Matt unaware of her true identity, their budding romance is as complicated as it is adorable. Throw in Kimmie's unexpected internet fame, a meddling Nana, and a slew of hilarious misunderstandings, and you've got a recipe for romance that's as irresistible as a freshly steamed bao bun.
What makes "Crazy Bao You" stand out is its perfect blend of humor, heart, and mouthwatering food descriptions. Lyn Liao Butler has crafted a story that will have you laughing out loud one moment and swooning the next. And let's not forget the mouthwatering bao buns—prepare to have your cravings kicked into overdrive as you read about Kimmie's delectable creations.
But it's not all laughs and bao buns. Beneath the surface, "Crazy Bao You" tackles themes of identity, family, and the courage to pursue your dreams. As Kimmie grapples with her past and navigates the complexities of her budding relationship with Matt, readers will find themselves rooting for her every step of the way.
And speaking of Matt and Kimmie, can we talk about their chemistry? From their charming banter to their heartwarming moments of vulnerability, it's clear that these two are meant to be together. And with a supporting cast of quirky characters—including a lovable foster dog and a cast of multi-ethnic representation—this book is as diverse as it is delightful.
But perhaps the best part of "Crazy Bao You" is its message of joy, resilience, and the power of communication. As Kimmie and Matt navigate the ups and downs of their relationship, they learn that sometimes, love is about more than just fireworks—it's about trust, honesty, and being true to yourself.
So if you're in need of a feel-good read that will leave you craving both love and bao buns, do yourself a favor and pick up "Crazy Bao You." It's a rom-com masterpiece that's as satisfying as it is delicious.
It was an okay read.
- The whole catfishing thingy was a bit draggy, imo
- I wish there were more interactions between Kim and Ruby (not just showing around heritage foods in NY)
- Sometimes these characters doesn't talk like their age. It's the CEO Father especially.
- Pacing was a bit off
- Some unnecessary twist plot (especially towards the ending)
- The fact that they did not confront Violet?
Overall, it lacks emotional depth but yeah, it is recommended to anyone who is looking for quirky, easy read.
Thank you NetGalley & publisher for this eARC.
What a fun read! I loved all the different dimensions of the main character, you really felt for her in so many ways but it also gave her some great character development. There was also such a great supporting cast of characters, it was such a joy to read this book.
For me this book is that one that you read in 1 afternoon before days of literary hangover . Is a little shallow but in the right amond.
As witty as the title suggests, it features great female relationships which pass the bechdel test, has a very cute romantic storyline, with well specified characters who shine. The plot did get a little less tight towards the end, but overall this is a great time,
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!! This was super cute!
Be daring. Be bold. Be you. Crazy Bao You is a delight. I loved the sweet backstory about Kimmie’s shop inspiration and the hilarious ridiculousness of her twerking stardom. It’s both fun and tender. And who doesn’t love a rich boy who’d rather spend time with his grandmother and be an everyday hero than a corporate drone?
This heartwarming love story takes you on an enchanting journey of self-discovery and unexpected connections. I instantly fell in love with Kimmie and Matt, two characters from different parts of the country whose bond transcends distance and time. The book beautifully explores themes of love, self-acceptance, and the challenges of navigating the digital age. Liao's writing style is charming and the characters are relatable, making this a truly enjoyable read.
This book was so sweet. The chemistry between Kimmie and Matt made me melt! Also, this is one of my favourite romance covers ever.
Sadly I read a few chapters and this book just didn’t grip me. I will not be finishing.
Maybe it’s just not for me at this time but I read a lot of contemporary romcoms and this just wasn’t hitting the mark.
Super cute lighthearted romance. Definitely a nice palate cleanser in between some heavier books. Loved the whole firefighter aspect, it was done perfectly. Overall super cute and heartwarming. Would definitely recommend for those looking for a lighter fun read.
A super cute romance that I wish I'd had the chance to read sooner! This was my second read by Lyn Liao even though it was very different genre.
Thank you very much for the opportunity to read this book early! I really enjoyed it. I thought the writing was very well done, and the story kept me interested. I believe my students/patrons would also love this book and will be acquiring it for the library!
