Thank you to #NetGalley and #Bookouture for the reading and reviewing of the #TheWeddingDay by #SueWatson. The book was very well written and right in my happy place. It had action, thrills and surprises. Definitely recommend this book!
This book started out with a bang, but it soon fizzled out for me. Alice is newly divorced and she sees her ex-husband, Dan, with his new love, Della, who is very pregnant which sends Alice into a rage as she underwent fertility treatments with Dan without results. She hits Dan over the head with a bottle of wine and he ends up on the floor bleeding. Alice panics and runs off to Corfu, Greece to hide out because the police want to speak to her. Lots of very complicated things happen in Greece and I really had a hard time getting into this book. All the characters are very unlikeable and Alice definitely has a drinking problem. I love this author's previous books but this one not so much.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book.
Always one of my favourite authors, Sue Watson has given us another wonderful book to read.
As usual from the beginning I was totally engrossed in the story. Alice’s life is a bit if a mess, she has recently broken up with her husband and is also carrying the weight of not being able to conceive, something she desperately wanted with Dan.
One night after work she goes into the bottle shop to buy wine and she sees Dan, not only Dan but a very pregnant new girlfriend, Alice is devastated. She comes to after passing out and next we find out that Dan is now in hospital with a bleed on the brain. Alice then escapes to Corfu, a Greek island where she meets Sylvia who will become a friend but there is also Angelina lurking in the background, and she does not like Alice at all, Alice has no idea why. Next enters the love interest Nik and soon Alice thinks life is too good to be true, she may be right.
From this point on things become very interesting and the pace of the book picks up. When you think you know what is happening soon a huge twist arrives and then another throwing you off any ideas you had about where the story is going.
I would recommend this book to other readers, four stars. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions are my own.
Sue Watson is one of my favorite psychological thriller writers. The Wedding Day was good but not my favorite to be honest. Slightly slower than expected, it built to a good ending while some of the twists were unexpected. If you are new to Sue Watson, pickup one of her previous novels for s 5 star read.
I read every Sue Watson novel as soon as it comes out and I am never disappointed!
The Wedding Day by Sue Watson
It’s the day I’ve been dreaming about my whole life. As I glide down the flower-strewn aisle overlooking the Greek orange groves, in my pearl-encrusted ivory gown, I finally see my fiancé Nik. We look like the perfect couple, but not all fairy tales have happy endings…
Today is supposed to be the day of my dreams. But I don’t see a single friend or family member. I’m surrounded by strangers. I have been so excited to finally meet my fiancé’s family.
Then why do they turn their heads away as I walk down the aisle? Now, as I say my vows, I gaze longingly into Nik’s eyes. But instead of love, he looks through me, as if he can’t wait for this day to end…And I suddenly have an awful feeling that I don’t know my fiancé at all.
But then again, he doesn’t truly know me either. And by the time he finds out who I really am, it will be far too late. There’s only room for one happily-ever-after on this wedding day, and I’m determined to make it mine…

This is my fifth Sue Watson read: " The New Wife", "The Resort", and "The Nursery" all earned 5 stars from 'stingy star" me! I liked "Summer Flings and Dancing Dreams" but the genre wasn't as exciting as these three!!! I was excited and looking forward to this story as it certainly looked like my kind of a read! (I need to find a twisty emoji!)
Story stars with Alice stopping at the mini mart after work on Valentine’s Day for some wine. She is remembering this day a year when she and Dan Green were married. They have split but she is thinking perhaps she’ll pick up some stop by his place. She notices a guy who looks like Dan and sure enough it is. Dan sees Alice and introduces her to his girlfriend Molly. When Alice sees that Molly is pregnant she blacks out. The next thing Alice is on the train without a ticket as well as no purse. She is approached by authorities for causing an altercation at the mini market – apparently she hit Dan with a wine bottle and he is in the hospital.
There is now an investigation.
Alice is terrified and flees to the Greek island of Corfu.
While on Corfu, she makes new friends - and meets Nik, an older, charming man. Although things haven’t been resolved back in the UK she continues to stay. Her relationship with Nik blossoms and they plan to marry. Of course, there is drama going on with the new friends but Alice is sure her marriage to Nik will work. Six month later they marry. However, immediately after the ceremony police arrive!!
Okay I am going to leave it right there ~you need to read for yourself.
I am a big psychological thriller fan and there are some things I am prepared for:
Expect twists and turns!
Be suspicious of everyone!
The most obvious person didn’t do it!
There will be many secrets!
Yes! Sue Watson does not disappoint there are twist and turns that left my head spinning. However, I am so pleased with myself as my suspicions were ‘right on’ with two!
Must admit the prologue with Alice on her way to Rio de Janeiro kept me curious
Quick read and although it slowed a bit I truly could not put it down!
Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for granting me the pleasure of reading this GREAT early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for May 24, 2023.
A fun twister of a story. Alice split from her husband and began drinking to deal with the pain. An unfortunate event at the wine store causes her to flee the country and spend time in Corfu, trying to get her self together. While she is there a fairy tale love affair begins wiht a handsome man that owns a vineyard. Alice is swept away by Nick but is he really what he seems? If you love visiting paradise, love a twisty romance gone wrong, then The Wedding Day is for you! #Bookotoure #SueWatson #TheWeddingDay
The Wedding day is a very very Slow novel, it takes a good while before you get to the actual wedding day. Alice is unfortunately not a very interesting character
Even the big twists at the end did not do much to save her in my opinion. Overall I felt that this book took too long to get going and I was not impressed with the twists
Another new author I have discovered on Netgalley. At first I thought it was a bit slow but then it really became quite intriguing. Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to read early.
This is a ver slow paced story. I did not enjoy any of these characters or the storyline. I would recommend some of Sue Watson's other titles. This one was just not for me.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
Alice is single, living with her sister after a traumatic divorce, and feels her life isn’t what it should be. One evening she bumps into her ex husband and doesn’t remember any events after, and is confused why she is being arrested. When she’s let out on bail, she flees to Corfu, where many women have disappeared. She wants to distract her mind from what’s going on back home, and thinks a few weeks on the island will do the trick. She’s not looking for love, but feels a connection with a man she meets. But, you just can’t trust anyone.
This author always makes a great read, with a well plotted story. And this one was no different. A great psychological thriller full of twists and turns. The characters were well written, and Alice was extremely relatable. An excellent page turner I’d highly recommend.
Sue Watson, The Wedding Day, Bookouture, May 2023.
Thank you, NetGalley, for providing me with this uncorrected proof for review.
The Wedding Day begins with an intriguing prologue.
However, it then becomes a slow-moving narrative with repetitious phrases, which are an indictor of the main character’s obsessiveness. She constantly believing she is ‘overthinking’, but it soon becomes clear that she is obsessive about more than this - she drinks too much, is unable to assess situations and people so becomes overly enthusiastic about them, and soon becomes embroiled in what has all the appearance of a dangerous situation – except to her.
Alice’s marriage to Dan has failed, partly because of they have been unable to become pregnant. On St Valentine’s day Alice meets Dan and his new partner when she goes to purchase wine. Della is pregnant. Alice creates a scene, leading to Dan being injured. Alice leaves the country, flying to Greece. Her attention is taken up with the story of women who have gone missing on the island she chooses for hiding from the police. This storyline proceeds alongside Alice’s life on the island with new friends, her conversations with her older sister who maintains the almost mothering role she has played since their parents died, as well as discussing their interest in real crime and the mystery of the missing women.
The resolution of the mystery and explanations at the end of the novel are written well and it is unfortunate that this tighter writing was not a feature of the first half of the work. The epilogue is also strong and suggests that disappointing nature of some of the narrative may not always be a feature of Watson’s work. I have enjoyed previous novels by Sue Watson, and hope to do so next time she publishes.
I enjoyed this story although it was t quite as I expected from the description. It was very twisty full of unexpected turns and I thought the ending was good. Most of the characters were well written and although far fetched at times, I would recommend this to all. I have enjoyed all the books I’ve read by this author, thanks to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this one x
Another great read by Sue Watson. She continues to write great thrillers. Nice timelines and POVs. Characters were fabulous.
Highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book
The Wedding Day is a thriller about a woman called Alice who has not accepted the breakup from her ex husband Dan. When she meets him in a supermarket with his new pregnant partner she blacks out and finds Dan is in hospital having been hit with a wine bottle and she’s being blamed. Unable to remember she flees to Greece and falls for a handsome man there. It’s a twisty and predictable (though slightly far fetched) story that keeps you just interested enough and makes for an easy read.
This is another fantastic thriller by Sue Watson. She is one of my favourite authors and this new book certainly didn’t disappoint.
It’s slightly different to her usual offerings, but has everything that makes her books amazing; intriguing characters, a page turning plot and a fabulous and unexpected ending. A great, summer read and one that I’d definitely recommend.
I could not put this book down! I was captivated all the way through and was shocked at the twists and turns that happened throughout the story.
I’d really like to know what happened next so would love to see a second book where the story is expanded more!
I definitely recommend this book to readers who like to be kept on the edge of their seat!
I enjoyed this one more than I expected! Initially the story was a little slow, but I really enjoyed the direction it went! It was twisty, and I couldn't put the book down!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!
This really is a dark read about a woman who is struggling with the breakup of her marriage and when she runs into her ex and his new very pregnant new girlfriend she is accused of a crime she is convinced she did not commit but can’t remember what actually happened. Against her sisters wishes she flys off to Corfu to try and escape the past but her sister believes she is changing old ghosts as they are both obsessed with the missing person cases they followed as kids on the island. As she tries to hide from her past she makes some new friends and falls in love with the man of her dreams but is everything as it seems. I can’t say any more without spoiling this book but just so you know you won’t be disappointed.
4 ⭐️
This book had me on the edge of my seat for the last 20% of the book. I gasped more times than I’d care to admit.
Some parts of this book, I had figured out… giving myself a few pats on the back here and there. But, for the most part this book had left me needing to pick my jaw up off the floor.
The reason I am rating this novel a 4 instead of a 5 is because I felt that the first half of the book felt really slow. Initially, I had a very hard time becoming invested in the characters and the story.
However, once I hit about 45% through the book I could not put it down. Chapters would end on cliffhangers. Key details were quickly unfolding. The story had become addicting. I read the last bit in one sitting because I could not bear the thought of putting it down.
