TRIGGER WARNING: infertility, miscarriage, domestic abuse, alcoholism
Alice escapes to Corfu after a disasterous encounter with her ex. Hiding from the police, she seeks friendship and love in the sun. But who can she trust?
The Wedding Day is a psychological thriller set in the UK and Corfu.
Alice has a troubled and emotional past. Raised by her sister Heather after the deaths of their parents, followed by an unhappy relationship with Dan that crumbled after their failure to have a baby. Now she faces prison after an incident she cannot recall due to PTSD blackouts, so she heads to Corfu.
Alice makes a firm friend of Sylvie who offers her a job and there is the potential of a romance with Nik. But his cousin and an antagonistic relationship with colleague Angelica mean that she isn't confident in her new life. Plus there are posters up around town of missing women, and one looks just like her...
There are multiple layers to this book as we have Alice's situation with the UK police and increasingly revealing snippets of her marriage. We then have her flourishing relationships with Sylvie and Nik set against her growing worry over jealous Angelica. Finally there are the mysterious disappearances of other women in the local area. Tension builds as Alice becomes fixated on Nik's cousin being responsible for killing women while police edge closer to finding Alice herself.
There are a number of mysteries to keep readers guessing: how did Dan get injured, who can Alice trust, what has happened to the missing women? I admit that I found the middle of the book a little long winded and without direction. No progress seemed to be made on any of the plot strands and I thought the scenarios repeated unnecessarily. Several times I tried to relate the plot to the prologue to work out what might happen. There were some huge twists in the final part of the book and plenty of drama throughout.
The Wedding Day is a multi layered psychological thriller with plenty of mystery.

Many thanks to Netgalley for the e-arc! I really enjoyed this book! It starts a little slow but stick with it. I loved Alice and found her struggles interesting and engaging character. (She did irate me a bit but I thought it was true to that character). Would recommend!

I would give this book 10 stars, if it was an option!!!

When you are running from your past and end up on a beautiful Greek island, the last thing you expect is to find love. In a whirlwind, you end up marrying the man of your dreams, or so you think. Once you are married, everything quickly changes.

Sue Watson has created an engaging new thriller that keeps you on your toes from page 1. This is an absolute must-read, and I guarantee you will not figure out the twists!! @suewatsonbooks @bookouture #thrillers #thrillerbooks #domesticthriller #whatdidijustread

This was my first Sue Watson book and I am so glad I gave this a try. The story was engage and moved quickly. It was incredibly hard to put down with all twists and turns. I loved her writing style...I felt like I was in Corfu. Her characters, Alice and Nik felt three dimensional and "real". When I did put the book down I would find myself wondering what the characters were doing "right now"...that is the sign that I am fully invested and have forgotten that I am reading fiction and when I can find an author who does that for me I have to read their whole catalog. So I am off to buy some books for my library!

Thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author, for the free copy of this book. If you are ready or wishing for a super shocking ending, this is the book for you. This author does not disappoint when it comes to fun, unexpected twists. What I was led to believe at the beginning of the story is not at all what really happened! This is such a fantastic and fun read, so full of surprises and what an ending! Loved it!

I have loved the books I’ve read of Sue Watson and this one is no exception. And I’ll say the twists started for me from the beginning. I’m not sure if I read the synopsis or forgot it, but that was not the beginning I was expecting. I am spoiler free here, so you’ll just have to trust me to just go in blind and enjoy a few extra twists. Especially since the beginning is a little bit of a slow burn.

I loved the setting of Corfu. Greece is on my bucket list and it felt like I was there. And I like that our main character is 40 something. I’m starting to see an uptick in a slightly more mature (age wise and not necessarily in actions) characters.

And so many red herring hints, that I was kept on my toes. I was sure I knew where this was going and alas I didn’t know. I was right on a few guesses and way, way off on others.

Definitely an entertaining read.

Sue Watson is back and taking readers on a trip to the dark side with this latest gem. I found myself hooked by this one quickly and soon became unwilling to put this down.

This is another book by this author that I have devoured in just one sitting. I was completely unwilling to put this one down. It’s been addictive from beginning to end.

I’ve loved the gorgeous setting of corfu. Watson has given me an escape I needed. I’ve had mixed opinions of Alice as I’ve read this book. In some ways I felt for her due to the turbulent experiences with her ex. Then she’s gone and frustrated me.

This is perfectly paced and Watson is really able to develop her characters so the reader feels they are familiar.

This is a brilliant book. I’ve loved every second of this one. Watson delivers with every book and this has been no different.

I have no hesitation in recommending this book to everyone. It’s without a doubt a must read.

I have to admit that I struggled with this and almost gave up, I didn't like any of the characters and the story was very slow until about halfway when it picked up considerably.
Unfortunately the twists when they came weren't that surprising and I had guessed some of them quite early in the book. The main character, Alice, is gullible and some of the occurrences were just too far fetched which ruined the book for me.
I am sure some readers will enjoy this book but it wasn't for me.

This was my first read by Sue Watson and I am a fan. The pages were turning and I could not put it down. Read a few pages every chance I could get and finished in one day. The plot was not at all what I expected and was a thrilling trip to the island of Corfu. The whole Greek vineyard/villa setting for the wedding had shades of Victoria Holt--an old favorite of mine. I did not spend much time ahead of time looking into the plot. Just jumped in with both feet. The big twist caught me totally unprepared. Sue Watson totally bamboozled me and I will be reading more of her books in the future.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.

Ooohhh…good twist at the end! This book kept my attention. Easy to read. Shorter chapters. Not hard to follow. I would definitely recommend this book to others. 4.5 stars . Will definitely read more books by this author.

I always look forward to this authors next book and she never lets me down. There are two main storylines, nicely woven together to create a fantastic novel..
We see Alice running away to Corfu following a failed marriage and an incident with the ex husband.
Alice has history with Corfu and uses this as an opportunity to find answers. She meets charismatic vineyard owner Nik and is determined to settle with him on the sunshine island.
There was some great characterisation and i particularly liked the fantastically interesting character Dimiitris who I couldn't make my mind up about. Friend or foe?
The book picked up pace quickly in the second half and I could never have predicted such a twisty ending.
Thank you to the author and Bookouture for the chance to read an early copy of this brilliant book.

The story took some time to get moving and I kept waiting for things to happen. Around 50% is when a lot of action happens. I found it mostly predictable but there was a big reveal near the end that I didn't see coming. While it moved a little slow, it was still entertaining.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Sue Watson for the advanced reader copy.

I received a copy of this book for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.

Sue Watson was a TV Producer at the BBC until she wrote her first book and was hooked.
Now a USA Today bestselling author, Sue has sold over a million books and explores the darker side of life, writing psychological thrillers with significant twists. Originally from Manchester, she now lives with her family in leafy Worcestershire, where much of her day is spent writing – and procrastinating. Her hobby is eating cake while watching diet and exercise programmes from the sofa, a skill she’s perfected after many years of practice.

“But if you look closer, there’s a dark side, and friends, lovers and murder, are just a whisper apart.”

Alice runs to an island in Greece, hoping that distance will help her remember what happened the night her ex-husband was injured. She never expected to meet a handsome stranger, let alone fall for him and get married. But the honeymoon will be anything but steamy- Alice might not survive.

Well, the plot twist in this was unexpected and smacked me in the face! The build-up for this story was intense and, at times, went on a bit longer than necessary, but it was engaging and fast-moving.

The characters were all well-developed. You will find yourself frustrated with Alice, who can be naive. You will love Sylvie, who is fashionable and generous. You will want to swoon over Nik, the wealthy heartthrob.

The way this story builds will keep your attention as you speed-read through the chaos. The way this house of cards collapsed was brilliantly done, and the ending will leave you speechless.

The emotions were well done throughout this novel, and the secrets were red hot. This was a page-turner!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for gifting me a digital ARC of the latest psychological thriller by a favorite, Sue Watson - 4.5 stars!

Facing possible legal problems after issues with her ex-husband, Alice flees to the Greek island of Corfu. There she befriends Sylvie, a wedding planner who hires her, and Nik, a handsome vineyard owner. Despite a few pangs of doubt, when Nik asks her to marry him, she says yes. Then he is arrested on their wedding day.

Sue Watson has done it again and written a thriller that will have you guessing and turning the pages as quickly as you can. I found myself questioning most of the characters at some point and even when I thought I had things figured out, there were more twists to come. The setting was beautiful and added to the drama. Pack this one along in your beach bag!

The Wedding Day is the newest publication from Sue Watson, a talented writer of psychological thrillers, and this mystery novel follows the complicated life of Alice and her evasion of the UK police as she travels to Corfu and subsequently meets Nik.
The characters as a whole were unlikeable and untrustworthy, and as a reader it was difficult to know who to side with. This worked well for the mystery element of the story. Another factor that added to the mystery was the unreliable narration by Alice as she experiences blackouts and memory loss. I did wish that Alice's sister, Heather, had played a bigger part to the story.
It was a typical, "cookie-cutter" thriller but very enjoyable and quick to read. Whilst there were some unexpected twists, the main plot was very obvious to me. I think this book could have benefited from a dual POV or dual timeline to give it more backstory and depth. The ending was open to interpretation but for the most part was concluded well.
Personally for me I wasn't a fan of the Corfu setting, however I think if you are a mystery thriller reader this would be a great holiday read for summer. I am a fan of Sue Watson and have read a few of her previous publications, and whilst this may not have been my favourite of her writing, it was a thrilling read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5

OMG, OMG… What a freaking ending! Alice is lonely on Valentine’s Day and keeps remembering the year before with her last ditch effort to make her marriage a good one but sadly it failed and here she is on Valentine’s Day going to buy her a bottle or two of wine to help her sleep the night away. Unfortunately she runs in today and her ex-husband and he’s with his new partner who is pregnant which is a shock and a slap to the face of Alice. They tried for so long for Alice to get pregnant and although she did she carried none of them to terms at least none with her husband. After a violent altercation with her husband that Alice doesn’t remember she flees to catch the train only to be arrested one stop later for the assault on Dan. When she is released she decides to go to Carfu,Greece, for reasons not shared with the reader or at least not yet. When she gets to Greece she sees pictures of many missing girls and one is much younger than the others but they all resemble her and she gets fixated on who committed the crime. One day in a restaurant to meats a wedding planner who immediately becomes instant friends with Alice something Alice welcomes through her she meets Nick a vineyard owner who lives with his creepy cousin Dimitri and this is who Alice thinks is the killer. Allison and Nick quickly fall in love despite his weird actions and the younger woman Angelina who openly flirts with Nick and is also equally openly hostile to Alice but he claims to love Alice and so they marry. It’s right after the wedding that things start to fall apart and OMG what a convoluted mess of circumstances Sue Watson creates in her book The Wedding Day I thought The Nursery what’s my favorite book in the one I always recommended to others that they should read for a great thriller but OMG if this book doesn’t replace that by far! Hey you put a gun to my head I couldn’t of gased the ending and I always look for great endings and wow when I say this was great I almost want to invent a new word that means great tenfold because this book was awesome from beginning to end it is a book you have to make time to read and trust me you will not want to put it down I absolutely love this book so good! I received this book from NetGalley Ian Bookoucher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Alice has had a tough time since finalising her divorce from Dan, coming to terms with her infertility, and marinating her pain in alcohol to relieve her bad dreams. After an unfortunate altercation with her ex, too foggy to completely recall, she decides to flee to Corfu to gain a new perspective. She quickly finds a new best friend, Sylvie, and gets caught up in a whirlwind romance with Nik. Life seems to finally be turning Alice's lemons into lemonade, despite her sister's panicked concern. Things sour, however, when Nik is arrested on their wedding day. 'just like Instagram, real life is never quite as pretty as it seems.'

When I started reading this story, I was unsure. Alice has a vague memory of some events, while also alluding to historical trauma, so it was difficult for me to connect. However, after the halfway point, the story really started coming together for me and I really started wondering how everything was going to be resolved. And, as with the only other Sue Watson story I've read, 'The Nursery', the end is never really the end. Overall, a good read for all psychological thriller lovers.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Wow! I did not see that coming. Just when I thought I had it all figured out there was a twist that showed I really had no clue. I was pulled in from the very first page and had a hard time putting this one down.

I thought the characters were all very well developed, the plot was excellent and the pacing was perfect. I liked that Alice was a bit of an unreliable narrator which makes you really wonder what is going on, what is true and what is not. The Wedding Day is an excellent domestic thriller and is perfect for all thriller fans.
