I am a big fan of the books I have read by Shari Low and this one didn't disappoint. As Zara tries to get her parents to renew their wedding vows the story looks at their original wedding in Vegas and explores the decisions made and the subsequent consequences. Will this trip 30 years later change anything and who will end up where. Another great read that I couldn't put down.. thanks to Netgally and Boldwood books for an early copy in exchange for my review.
After the death of Grandma Ada, Zara, while going through pictures at her home finds a picture of her parents and two people she’s never seen before. The picture was taken in Las Vegas right before her parents quickie marriage in the city they all look so happy in this get Zara a great idea. She decides to look up this Gary Gregg and Eileen Smith after having no luck going to Gary Greg’s Facebook friends list she find Aiden Greg when she sends Aiden a message she finally gets lucky when he messages her back after explaining the plan which is to bring your parents to Las Vegas so they can redo their wedding vows and she would like who is she now knows is Aidans parents to be there just like the first time… Right? After Aiden was Jilton on his wedding day in front of all his family he needs a distraction so he is totally on board with Zaras plan despite his parents being divorced he knows what to say to get them to Sin City without complaint or at least with little complaint. They all arrive in Las Vegas and Aiden Zara and her sister Millie meet up for a drink and to discuss the plan Zara can’t help but notice how handsome Aidden is that she has her boyfriend kev who for some reason doesn’t answer the phone or want to talk when he does answer. They decide to do the big reveal at lunch the next day the kids are so excited but when the parents come together it isn’t a happy handshake in tears experience they thought it would be what is said at the reunion will put both her parents in a whole new light and they will know way more than someone should know about their parents. This book is so good and anyone who has read a Sherry Low book before knows there is way more to the story than just what I put not only do we get to hear the story of Brenda Collin Gary and Eileen but we get to see cameos from her other books like Bernadette and Noah I thought that was a brilliant touch and another reason why Sherry Low is one of my favorite authors. I received this book from NetGalley in BoldwoodBooks but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
A really great story, full of happy, fun and sometimes sad moment that will melt your heart and want to try to do the best for your life. Zara's wish to make her parent renew their bows in Las Vegas, where all began turns out to be a big challenge, discovering past secrets, bad decisions that will mark the future of all the people involved. Great reading
One Moment In Time by Shari Low is a most delightful contemporary novel which I loved.
The tale is about love and family. We see characters who love their families so much that they always put them first. They practice sacrificial love.
Lives have been squashed for far too long as smiles were plastered on faces. Somewhere down the years, characters lost sight of themselves. It is never too late to have a fresh start.
Big hearted daughters plan something special for their parents thirtieth wedding anniversary. Little do they realise that the dominoes are about to fall.
The reader is treated to the sights and sounds of Las Vagas. Shari Low provides full descriptions painting the urban landscape for us as we imagine ourselves there.
All the characters are well drawn, realistic and easy to empathise with. Our emotional responses to the characters were expertly guided by Shari Low. There were moments when we commiserated with the characters, applauded their responses and laughed out loud!
One Moment In Time was a fun read but it had its serious moments too. We all need to seize the day as we practice carpe diem. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
I received a free copy via Rachel’s Random Resources. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.
From Glasgow to Las Vegas over the span of a 30 year marriage, this wonderful story captures perfectly the highs and lows of relationships.
With a brilliant sense of humour, Shari Low has once again made me laugh, cry and feel disappointed at the end of the book when my ‘new’ friends finished their adventures.
I am looking forward to another Shari book soon…
This was my first book by Shari Low. The story is cute, funny and fast-paced, and I enjoyed it. I might have expected a bit more depth and found some parts of the story very easily resolved (but acceptable in the context of a feel-good story). Overall, a nice story and I definitely want to read another book by Shari Low in the future.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for providing me with a free advanced reader copy of this book. This did nog affect my review in any way.
After 30 years of marriage Brenda has decided to put herself first and leave her husband, but first she has to get through a surprise break organised by her two daughters. This takes her back to Las Vegas where it all began and also leads to an unexpected and unwelcome reunion. Where will everyone end up once the dust has settled? Another excellent read from Shari Low.
One Moment in Time is an enjoyable story with lots of likeable characters. It touches on all emotions and one moment I was laughing out loud and the next I was shedding a tear.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my ARC.
After thirty years, Brenda has decided to leave her husband. The problem is that her daughters have planned a vow renewal back where they got married – in Las Vegas.
Zara, one of Brenda’s two daughters, has planned everything out but is still struggling to track down the two friends that were with them when they got married.
Aiden is dealing with his own relationship trouble. His fiancé just left him at the altar but he’s intrigued by the message he receives from Zara, a complete stranger. She begs him to bring his parents to Vegas for the renewal.
With Zara and Aiden working together on the event, everything is going as planned. The only problem is Aiden and Zara don’t really know what happened all those years ago.
Does what happen in Vegas always stay in Vegas?
This was a cute story and I think it would be perfect for a bookclub read. I hadn’t read anything by this author but I have heard good things, and I agree, she was great. I would definitely read more of her books. The story was told from Brenda, Zara and Aiden’s points of view, and it really helped shape and move the story along. I was worried with three individual points of view that things would get muddled and confusing but that was not the case. I really enjoyed how easily the story flowed and it was a quick read. Overall this was a fantastic read and I read it in one sitting. I would recommend it.
If you’re looking for a lovely women’s fiction this Spring then you should check this one out. The publication date is right around the corner on May 2nd.
Many thanks to Boldwood Books, an award-winning independent publishing house, and netgalley, @netgalley for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
This book 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟!
I used to love romance novels but then I guess I read too many cheesy, predictable samey samey ones and it put me off the genre on its own. I received an advance copy of this book thanks to NetGallet and Book and Tonic in exchange for an honest review. When I first read the blurp I thought it would be a story of second chances or a moment in time that changed everything a fork in the road type of thing where they get to do it again. This was not that...but...it was so much more. Its a story of 2 families joint by a secret, devastated and separated by that secret and reunited by time, forgiveness and mostly understanding. Told from the point of view of 4 of the characters (the 2 mothers and a daughter and son) it gives an enjoyable insight into what's going on with each of them as and when things unfold. It had it all, intrigue, suspense, some laugh out loud moments, tender moments and definitely some romance (no spice). If you are looking for a fun and heartfelt novel with Scottish characters. Then I highly recommend this one. Bravo Shari!
It has become a tradition to buddy read Shari’s books with my friend Zara from @worm_talk_book_club. We enjoy her characters and easy to read plots that are both heartfelt and funny. It can be difficult to get the balance right, nobody wants an author turning serious issues into an unfunny joke but Shari always captures it just so.
The crux of this for me was how much women lose of themselves to make others happy. But who is worrying about their happiness? Brenda is your typical working mum and wife, the kids are now adults and doing their own thing while her husband’s passion seems to be found more tending to plants in the garden rather than her lady garden in the bedroom.
Her children Zara and Millie couldn’t be more different. One is in a long term relationship and in bed early while the other is bed hopping. However they are close and go about planning a surprise for their parents anniversary, including reuniting them with old friends, not knowing the shocks this will bring.
It is so refreshing to read a book that shows you don’t suddenly become dead from the waist down once you get past forty and that it’s not just men that can attract a younger partner. Take that Gary!!
However I did feel one of the romantic frissons, which we both saw coming fairly early, felt very rushed towards the end. But that could be me possibly just wanting more of them and feeling a bit hard done by. All said this was another really good read from Shari and I can’t wait for the next one.
When Zara and her sister decide to surprise their parents with a trip to Vegas to renew their vows, they had all good intentions. What they didn’t know is how rocky their parent’s marriage was or that inviting their once best friends would be a disaster.
This was a cute book! I liked the characters and felt drawn to their stories. Zara was quirky which I loved. I also liked the alternating character chapters, to a point. I did want everything to go a little slower. I felt as though there were too many characters that you were following to really give them all some good stories. But, I did enjoy it!
The best laid plans....often go sideways!
Zara and her sister Millie have planned a fantastic surprise trip for their parents' 30th anniversary! All expenses paid trip from Scotland to Las Vegas, where they got married. They planned everything and managed to keep the details a surprise right up until they were at the airport to leave. When the excited sisters sprung the surprise on Brenda and Colin, it was less than well-received.
One of the elements they plan to surprise the parents with is that their friends at the time are going to attend too! Zara discovered a photo from Vegas, which led her to finding the son of the friends online, and before you know it, they're also attending - also surprised. Since his parents are divorced, Aiden has to trick them into coming, because since the divorce they can barely be in the same room, let alone take a vacation together.
So, all's set. Everyone is in place in Vegas. A lunch is set up to spring the surprise on everyone, but let's say that nothing turns out the way it was intended. What follows is in part hilarious, part emotional and all wonderful. Another winner by Shari Low!!
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
No good deed goes unpunished, they say. And Zara and her sister Millie’s good idea and plan to surprise their parents for a 30th anniversary gift goes spectacularly and crazily wrong but the craziness leads to unexpected changes. Zara is planning the anniversary trip to Las Vegas where her parents were married by an Elvis impersonator. She has the airplane tickets, the reservations at the Bellagio and a Celine Dion concert, her grandmother’s wedding dress…its all set. She and Millie have found a picture of their parents on their wedding trip and have identified the other couple with them, a couple she assumes are their best friends. Using her FaceBook detective skills, she contacts the couple’s son Aiden and involves him in the scheme. The big day comes and all I can say is that everyone is surprised.
What a delightful romance. Shari Low uses well developed characters (you will especially love Millie), a glamorous location, and a plot that deals with long term problems in relationships. This is a book to curl up with, a book that will leave you with a smile. Thank you, Shari Low.
Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and Shari Low for this ARC.
Zara and Millie have decided to use the inheritance left to them by their gran to plan a surprise 30th Anniversary wedding renewal in Vegas for their mum and dad. Unfortunately as everyone knows surprises don't always work out how you expect them to !
A fab read
Shari Low is definitely one of my go to authors! You know when you pick one of her books up that you are going to be treated to an emotional, yet heart-warming and amusing story full of love and life! The book begins in Vegas 30 years previously when Brenda and C0lin are getting married in a Las Vegas chapel! Fast forward 30 years, and the same couple are heading towards their wedding anniversary. However, whilst they've had a good married life, they are not as happy as they should be in their relationship now. Their grown up daughters, Zara and Millie, don't know any of this, and when they find a photo of their parents with two of their friends in Las Vegas 30 years ago, they secretly track them down, arrange a surprise reunion and wedding vows renewal in Vegas itself!
This was a wonderful read. The author has very cleverly added humour and fun into an emotional storyline that will bring tears to your eyes on one page and leave you laughing out loud on another. I loved Zara and Millie's characters and Millie was a welcome humorous distraction in some of the more tense parts of the storyline! It was obvious from the beginning that things were not as they seem and something was going to go wrong as the story moved on. I loved following the journeys of the different characters though, and whilst some were more likeable than others, they all were a perfect addition to the book,
Told from the perspectives of the different characters, this book tugged on the heartstrings more and more as I read! I loved the arrival in Vegas, and waiting with bated breath for the inevitable fallout! This was very cleverly written with warmth and emotion, and is the perfect piece of escapism! Loved the ending which wrapped up all the characters storylines and was genuinely sad when it ended! Would definitely recommend!
Picture a rope with many knots in it. That’s what this book is. Zara thinks she’s being romantic by staging her parents 30th anniversary in Vegas where they got married. Except it turns out to be anything but.
There were a few bends in the story that surprised me and I had to keep reading to see how it all turned out.
One should never settle in life whether it’s a partner or a job so seize the moment and go for it.
Thank you NetGalley, Shari Low and Boldwood Books for the ARC of One Moment in Time. This is my personal review.
I enjoyed this book so much. It was filled with everything a book needs to keep me turning the pages.
Zara and Millie have planned a surprise 30th anniversary celebration for their parents in Las Vegas. They had no idea what their mother was feeling about her marriage.
This book has so much in it and it all seamlessly flows to bring everything together. I liked the characters and location they made me feel like I was there with them.
I have read a few others by Shari Low and she is quickly becoming a favorite author for me.
Sisters Zara and Millie come up with the great idea of taking their parents to Vegas for their 30th wedding anniversary. Little do they know Brenda, their mom is thinking about leaving their dad. Life has become too boring and mundane for her. She feels like she is missing out on really living life.
Unbeknownst to Brenda and Colin, the sisters have also tracked down the couple that was with them on their first trip to Vegas all those years ago.
As one might expect, not all is as it seems to their daughters in the parents marriage. They are in for a few surprises to say the least.
Fun, quirky characters including sisters who couldn't be more different. I quite enjoyed this one.
Thanks to netgalley and Boldwood Books for the arc.
Shari has done it again! I love the characters she has created and how tangled their lives are and how they each learn and grow throughout the book (except Gary 😉)
Sisters, Zara and Millie, decide to surprise their parents with a trip to Las Vegas to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. Even better, they manage to contact two old friends of theirs they saw in a photo from all those years ago and, via their son, get them to come along too.
It seems like a wonderful idea, but that's because the children don't have all the facts. They don't know why their parents have never talked about Vegas or their friends from the photo. They have no idea why their parents are acting so strangely as each well-intended surprise is unveiled.
This is another Shari classic. Vivid characters, heartbreaking moments as well as new love, lessons learnt, forgiveness granted... an overarching feeling of hope.
Great work!
