Four friends living in West Sussex but sadly not very nice ladies. One asked another to pick her 4 year old daughter up from school. Unfortunately she was late and horror of horrors someone else had got there first. A bit convenient! As usual with Miranda’s books it doesn’t take long to get into and there was plenty to get your teeth into. It was hard to feel sympathetic towards any of the friends, their partners or their little secrets. Several points of view but some got more than their fair share! A great choice for a quick, easy read to pass the time nicely.

Upon arriving at the school, Jane discovers that someone pretending to be her has already collected Florrie, and the four-year-old is now missing. As Jane grapples with the shock and horror of the situation, she begins to receive anonymous letters containing intimate details about her life. Are these letters somehow connected to Florrie's disappearance?

As the investigation unfolds, Jane finds herself doubting everyone around her, including her own family. Incriminating evidence surfaces in her own home, leading Jane to question whether someone close to her could be involved in Florrie's disappearance. Amidst the chaos, Jane's marriage crumbles, her children act out, and her once-successful business falls apart. And just when Jane thinks things couldn't get any worse, she uncovers a shocking secret that shatters her entire world.

With time running out, Jane is determined to find Florrie and uncover the truth, but the stakes are higher than she ever could have imagined. Will she be able to save Florrie and her own family, or will she be too late to stop the unthinkable?

"The Other Mother" is a riveting thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very end. With its twists, turns, and shocking revelations, this explosive novel is sure to leave readers breathless.

This is a good psycological thriller on the whole, it has twists and turns and is engaging. However it fell a little flat for me halfway through. I wasn't a fan overall.

I love this author. I have read many of her books. This IS a great book, but it was slow burn through the middle. That’s not my favorite kinda book. The beginning will grab you up, the middle slowed down too much for me. When it picks back up it’s very hard to put down! If you are a parent it’s your worst nightmare! And when secrets and pasts start coming out from the least expected places while you’re already dealing with a full plate and the fear for the safety of your child, what else could come out??? This is a whirlwind thriller and what you think…. Just isn’t. So it’s definitely a fantastic read. I just wish the middle pace matched the beginning and ending. I will still jump at anything new this author releases though because her work is brilliant! Thank you Netgalley for allowing me access to this title.

Jane is asked by Naomi to pick up her 4 year old daughter, Florrie, from school. But when Jane finally gets there it turns out that someone else has already picked her up. Oh no, who impersonated Jane and why did the school allow a stranger to pick her up.

I do like me a missing child plot that gets my mama heart racing. Luckily we do get the POV of Carmen, the kidnapper, which lets us know that Florrie is unharmed.

I do feel like Naomi was not as frantic as I felt she should have been, and I could do without the infidelity, but without it we wouldn't have had the unreliable characters that gave us some twists and made for a fast paced, suspenseful read. I wasn't overly in love with the last little bit, though.

I was lucky enough to have an ebook and an audio copy.
Narration notes:
So happy there were 3!!! They all did a great job.

A tapestry of suspense and enigma is woven in this expertly crafted thriller, painting a picture of danger and intrigue that lingers right up until the final page!

I enjoy Miranda Rijks writing and she has a knack for always surprising me with her twists. I loved how she revealed who was behind the kidnapping before the characters found out because it added a level of tension. I didn't think the characters were very well developed so I did have a hard time connecting with them and honestly feeling bad for them. The plot itself is definitely not unique but I enjoyed the execution a lot. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Reading Between the Wines book review #95/115 for 2023:
Rating: 3 ½ 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book: The Other Mother
Author: Miranda Rijks
Re-RELEASES in an audio version on August 10, 2023!!!

Sipping thoughts: A missing child. Liars. Cheaters. All this makes for a great thriller. Florrie, a 4 year old, goes missing and everyone in her family becomes a suspect from her mother, dad, best friends of her family, and friends (or frenemies) of the family. I loved the crazy in this book and it was very unexpected. Another great Rijks book!

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @InkubatorBooks for an advanced copy of @TheOtherMother.
