An enjoyable read - seaside, bookstore, inheritance are all winners for me. I received this book as an advance copy from the author via NetGalley and leave this review voluntarily.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.
Scarlett Gardner struggles to keep her dream bookshop business afloat. Her boyfriend, who’s supposed to be her business partner left her for a higher paying job. He’s the one who knows about the business side. While she’s the one who knows about… the books.
Everything becomes even more complicated when she finds the body of a dead woman and she becomes the primary suspect. To free herself from the accusations, she tries to solve the murder by herself.
The writing was simple yet appealing. I finished it in one sitting. It wasn’t as thrilling as the other murder/mystery novels I’ve read so far. But it could definitely be a good start for those looking to explore this genre yet too afraid to start.
This book was very good. I love cozy mysteries that keep you guessing and have such wonderful characters and this book has both! I adored this so much.
I just reviewed Murder by the Seashore by Samara Yew. #MurderbytheSeashore #NetGalley

Scarlett Gardner has moved to the ocean and opened a book store. All is going good until she finds a body. She ends up being the prime suspect. So she decides to investigate to clear her name. Good cozy.
This debut novel encompassed everything I enjoy in a book, especially in a cosy mystery book!
The beautiful setting by the sea, the dream of opening up a bookstore, a fresh start after heartbreak, seemingly unexplainable twists, smart banter, it had it all!
I did like the Author’s writing style, perfect for this type of cosy mystery.
I was impressed enough by this debut novel to seek out the next book in the series when it comes out!
Thank you to author Samara Yew, (also writes as Holly Yew) Crooked Lane Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book before publication date.
I am a sucker for a cozy mystery and Samantha Yew knocked this debut out of the park. It felt like a classic who-dun-it with twist after twist keeping you from guessing the real murderer. The town and character building was excellently done and I’m excited to read more in this series
OHHHH. The twists kept coming and i couldn’t put it down!
This is a wonderful debut novel by Samara Yew!
Scarlett is excited to start a new adventure of owning a bookstore near the beach where vacationers can grab a read before they hit the sand. Her world is flipped upside down when she finds herself as a prime suspect in a string of murder investigations.
From murder to surprise inheritances to so so many possibilities, Murder by the Seashore will keep you engaged and on the edge of your seat from start to finish. I felt like we had the thrill and mystery of a murder investigation but also felt like i was playing a huge game of clue as i was trying to figure out what was going on WITH our FMC.
I definitely will be picking up future books by this author, and was pleasantly surprised with how much i enjoyed this!
This was an enjoyable quick read. It was definitely more of a cozy, murder mystery. The characters were great, and the story and plot were well executed. I would recommend this book to someone who loved reading mystery books.

This first book and I knew cozy series set in Southern California is a first great entry. Filled with books, sun, sand, the beach, and a fantastic mystery, this is a series that will be on my TBR list for a long time to come. Looking forward to more adventures with the ladies at Page and Palm.

Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
I found this book to be a great cozy mystery. Especially as it was a first book. The characters seemed well fleshed out. There was enough motivation to explain Scarlett's involvement in investigating the murder. There were a lot of twists in the book and the ending was a surprise.
I was quite surprised to learn the connection between Scarlett and the woman she found beneath the pier. It was enjoyable reading along and following the bookshop owner as she gave her best effort to figure out what really happened. The book maintained a healthy pace, I only wish there was more description of the City of Oceanside. I lived there in my early twenties and I didn't feel like the setting description was describing Oceanside specifically. I did, however, enjoy the beach descriptions that were given because it really did put me in a coastal state of mind. Murder by the Seashore was a good start to a new series and I'd love to see where the author goes with it in future installments.
I ended reading this book. The murder had so many twists and turns and I would think this person did but then I would think no maybe this person did. The second half of the book held joy attention and I couldn’t put down the book I just had to know what was going to happen next. If this is a stand alone it was good and if it becomes a series I would be curious to see what happens next.
I never got into this story as it seemed all too predictable, especially when I compared it to some of my recent reads. I usually enjoy books from this publisher, so I was disappointed that this feel flat for me.
Thanks to Crooked Lane Books for access to a digital ARC on NetGalley.
#MurderbytheSeashore #NetGalley is the first book I've read by this author, and I was immediately drawn to the story from the beginning.
Scarlett is hoping that her bookstore will be a hit, but suddenly becoming involved in a murder investigation might change her mind.
A sudden inheritance shakes things up for Scarlett and when her ex shows up, she's more uncertain than ever.
There's a lot going on in this book, but it will grab the reader's attention and keep them engaged until the end.
I'm hoping to read more in this series and I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for Scarlett.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
I received this book for free for an honest review.
I read this in one setting I hope they make more it kept me on my toes.
There was a lot happening for poor Scarlett. This cozy mystery had so many clues and twists. This didn't feel super predictable and the banter was great. First time reading anything by this author and I'm impressed.
When Scarlett takes a break and a walk along the beach after work, the last thing she expected to find is a body. Then to find out this same lady left her a huge inheritance is another jolt. Then to find herself framed for the murder was another. A good cozy mystery that was fun to read and follow the clues. Would recommend.
Bookshop owner Scarlett is surprised when she discovers the lifeless body of a woman on the beach near her store. When she is told that she has inherited a fortune from this unknown person, she comes under suspicion of the woman's murder,
Her real or fabricated connection to the dead woman was a surprise in the plot, and Scarlett's efforts to solve the crime and clear her name are both humorous and entertaining.
One or two of the characters are caricatures, which creates some of the humor.
This beach side cozy mystery was an enjoyable afternoon's read.
Really fun to read, the mystery was pretty good. I'd love to read more books taking place in this world as the setting was one of my favorite things about it. I can recommend this to both readers of cozy mysteries and murder mysteries in general.
