Great read, Stone is a bear, when his mate is mudered before him he makes a deal for her life. That deal results in a long search for her, then he must win her heart back without telling her of their previous relationship.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

This book had A LOT going on - bear-shifters, blacksmithing, furies, magic, witches, serial killers AND roller derby??? Unfortunately, none of it was really well explained. It almost felt like the author wanted soooo much in one book, but didn’t have the patience to explain how it all fit together.

Why have a large point of the plot be that the male main character is a bear-shifter but then hardly use that as a plot device?

What the purpose of the roller derby component? It didn’t really add to the book and it felt really out of place.

I didn’t really get to know either Stone or Kiva - the plot drove the book ahead so quickly that we didn’t get to learn much about our main characters. I didn’t understand their history and they never developed much chemistry. When Kiva finally gets her memories back, it didn’t have the emotional payoff and I didn’t understand her motivations.

Overall, I think I would’ve liked this book more if less time had been spent on roller derby and more time had been spent on world building.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for providing me with an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

Stars: 3.5/5

🌿Tropes & Themes 🌿
• Fated mates
• Dual POV
• Found family

Spice level: 🌶️ 🌶️

The book starts off with high drama as shortly after being introduced to our fated mate pair the FMC, Kiva dies and she is reborn as a fury without her memories from her previous mortal life.
The spice was good if a little cringey. 😅 There were lines that simply made me giggle and I couldn’t really take seriously. There were some aspects of Stone’s character that frustrated me. Also I felt like the ending takes some unexpected turns but mostly wraps up nicely.
Overall I mostly enjoyed the world building as it is unique and creative. The interactions between Kiva and her found family of Fury sisters, Stone and others was entertaining and enjoyable. Overall I really liked Kiva’s character and her development the most!

As the book went on I grew a frustrated that Stone was basically just being a sad boy bear after Kiva was murdered. He knew at the very least she was still alive just without her memories. I get that grief and sadness is expected if you’ve watched your fated mate die. However, he says he failed to keep his mate safe and that’s his biggest regret but it felt like he never thinks about or searched for her killer?
The lack of focus on that really confused me. Well 2 years later and he couldn’t find Kiva or her killer. Honestly even after finishing the book, I’m still confused on who killed Kiva.

This is the second book in the series and I really enjoyed reading it. A book of mates, strength and the length we will go to for love, the power love holds. The story gripped me from the start and kept me hooked til the end. This is a great PNR full of romance, mystery, and intrigue, definitely steam, loved it

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was awesome, I enjoyed the off the beaten track pnr. There was a little different of everything and I enjoyed the characters and how well it all clicked. There were times when I did feel like I was missing something which I’m assuming there is a book or two before this one. But I truly enjoyed the flow of the story and I wonder if there will be more.

I'm slightly disappointed with how this book turned out. A friend recommended this to me because of the many smut scenes, but even those scenes weren’t entertaining. The plot was pretty boring and the dialog between the characters reminded me of 2015 wattpad stories. I think this story could have had a lot more potential if it was just written better.

'For Whom the Fury Rolls' is book two in the Luna Joya's Syn City series.

I didn't read book one as Ms. Joya is quite a new author to me but the world she built is somewhat scary/amazing. It's our earth but as seen through the somewhat dystopian like aftermath of upheaval after finding out the 'things that go bump in the night' like shapeshifters, gods, furies, witches, and magic users to name a few do exist.

This story is well-written has an enjoyable fun story-line, believable characters you can like and great dialogue.

Ms. Joya did a great job of giving the reader enough back story that I didn't feel as though I couldn't fully enjoy this without reading book one but I intend to go back to get Dottie and Chase's story.

I would recommend this to Paranormal Romance and Fantasy Romance fans.

I was granted an ARC of For Whom the Fury Rolls by Luna Joya. I’m unfamiliar with the authors other works and this series itself. This book is written in the popular first person POV switching between the two leads. In many ways it is typical of the genre, i.e. a lot more time is spent in emotionally agonizing moments and introspection than is spent on describing surroundings or fleshing out the world building. However that hardly ever matters unless it takes you out of the relationship story. I’m happy to say that this book doesn’t do that. I don’t fully get the world (probably my own fault for starting at a book two!), but I was always along for the ride Stone and Kiva took me on.

The premise of the book is a pretty unique way of doing the amnesia type story as well as upgrading your character with a cool new power set. I liked both the leads of this book specially the fact that the guy was not an alphahole. I enjoyed the villain and her ultimate plan and some surprises happening at the end. I do wish however that we could’ve seen more of her power on display or a full explanation of why it wasn’t. I also wish we were given more time with her having her memories before the finale because I think one of the emotional beats at the end didn’t land very effectively for me because I hadn’t enough time to connect with this element of Kiva’s character. I guess that is the disadvantage of the amnesia plot.

Overall, this was lovely slow burn, medium heat book. Very quick and easy to read. Three stars. I recommend to those who already love the genre and type of book.
