This book had me hooked right from the start with so many twists and turns. Amy was such a wonderful character, and I loved how the story came together at the end with Amy’s revenge so well plotted and clever and oh so sweet!! Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC
What a wild ride! This book had me hooked from the beginning. This was a true revenge story told in dual narration from the two women Amy and Kirsten. Suspenseful, compelling, intense and an overall great book from start to finish.
Imagine you and your lover just had a wonderful weekend away and you decide to stop for lunch at a seaside restaurant on your travels home. While sipping that glass of wine you can't help feeling like life is great and how blessed you truly are!
Back on the road with full bellies and warm hearts when BANG!!!! You've hit a man out walking his dog. It was an accident. You never even saw him standing there. Now it's decision time: Call the proper authorities or make him disappear? He's already dead so it's not as if medics are going to be able to help. Why should your life be ruined over a simple accident?
Now imagine you're at home putting the finishing touches on dinner when your husband decides to bring the dog for a quick walk. Ten minutes, twenty minutes, thirty minutes, an hour and your husband still hasn't returned. It's as if he's vanished into thin air and what about the dog? Where did he run off to?
Detectives believe the husband did a runner. Wife believes otherwise and she will stop at nothing until justice is served. Let the games begin!
I did this book such a disservice by picking it up at a time when life was too busy and hectic to focus on it. Ten minutes here, five minutes there, with even days in between when I couldn't pick it up at all. I hate when that happens. Yet even with half my attention I can't deny that this was an entertaining book and I was easily able to slip back into the story whenever I did have the chance. Don't expect a lot of surprises or shocking twists as this is a straight up revenge story and I was all for it. There's just something so satisfying about watching terrible people get there comeuppance. The ending was the cherry on the sundae for this reader! 🍒 4 stars!
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Digital for my complimentary copy.
An interesting take on a revenge type thriller but lacking in many thrills I felt. I enjoyed the start but there were so many instances of odd behaviour the story seemed to go off the boil. I couldn’t get a feel for the marriage of Kirsten and Jamie and especially the very small impact poor little Lily had on her mother’s behaviour.
The book is clever in parts but failed to really grab me.
First book I have read from this author, and will be looking out for more. Just loved it! Written from the point of view of two very different women, building up the story and intrigue between them without repeating what’s already been as often happens with other books. Very cleverly put together. Just enough description without going into reams, which I much prefer. Great twists and turns! Thank you for the opportunity to read this, really enjoyed the style and storyline.
This was such a cleverly executed storyline and I found it so refreshing to read a book that was not forever going backwards and forwards over different timescales.. A fatal accident that changed everyone’s lives forever. A totally compelling account of how Kirsten and Nick dealt with the fall out of the cover up and how it affected Amy’s lie and that of her in-laws. Revenge is a dish best served cold ,a very powerful emotions, possibly more so than justice for Amy. A tense read with good twists and loved the inclusion of Rusty the dog. Will definitely be reading more books by this author.
Thank to Netgalley for giving me the chance to read this book.
Tense from the start, you know that the unravelling of this story is going to be painful. Separate strands of the truth are uncovered and then woven together to paint a picture of how to lose everything and how justice - or revenge - will drive what happens next.
For me this was all about the ending. It's kind of compelling because you want to see how things pan out but for the most part you know what's happened (who's been killed and by whom and why), the characters are not that nice, plus there's some dubious decisions and extreme coincidences. And then comes Amy’s revenge which was so well plotted, totally unexpected and totally apt.
I really enjoyed this book. Kirsten and Nick are driving home from an illicit weekend in North Devon hen they accidently hit and kill a man. They desperately need to keep their relationship secret, so instead of calling emergency services and reporting the accident, they put the man's body in the boot and drive back to London. When her husband fails to return home, Amy is convinced something bad has happened to him even though the police think he has left of his own accord. When his body is discovered in the Thames, Amy is determined to find out what happened and to wreak her revenge. This is a real page turner that will keep you guessing to the end. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.
Copied to Goodreads.
This book drew me in from the first sentence and I did not want to put it down. When Amy’s husband doesn’t come home from walking the dog, she is sure something has happened to him as they are such a happy couple with a baby on the way. Unfortunately, he has been knocked down by a couple who had been staying at their B and B, who bundle him into the boot of their car. They don’t want to be identified as they both have their own partners back at home and he is a top barrister.
The chapters alternate between both women, so we get to understand the whole saga from both sides.
This really was an excellent book which I highly recommend.
What can I say? It had me gripped from the start. Every bit a rollercoaster. I will be watching for more books by Diane, and if you get a chance to read, you won't be disappointed.
From characters to storyline, from beginning to end, it was definitely a 5-star read (if not more).
The plot is as deep and dark as it gets, multi-layered with 'who knew what when?' as the strands come together and the finer details get filled in. This is an absolutely compelling, gripping book full of mystery and suspense. Only a few authors can write deeply involving psychological drama of the very highest quality. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
This was a really enjoyable thriller it had me on the edge of my seat I really wasn’t sure how it was going to end which kept the suspense building until the very last page fantastic thriller.
This thriller is told from two perspectives which build the tension in the book throughout. Nick and Kirsten are both cheating on the partners with each other so have went away to the countryside to get a weekend of privacy to be a couple. After a great weekend they are leaving the area when tragedy what happened will alter everyones lives not just Nick and Kirsten’s. Then there is Amy who is waiting on her husband and dog to return but they do not return. Police think he has went away I get his head around her pregnancy but Amy knows he would not do that. Amy is determined to find out what happened to her husband, she will leave no stone unturned in doing.
This was a fantastic thriller which I highly recommend it is rollercoaster of emotions with lots of twists and turns which builds the tension within.
An enjoyable, easy-to-read psychological thriller. Sadly, a story with no winners and one can't help but feel pity for the 'innocents', the long-suffering husband and the daughter.
I devoured this book over a weekend. It tells the story of Kirsten and Nick who whilst committing adultery with each other, cause a terrible accident. They literally think they have got away with murder - but they underestimate the all encompassing rage of the person whose life is changed beyond recognition.
The book was fast paced and had a great twist at the end. So well written.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A fast paced and twist filled domestic thriller, it is an easy and satisfying read. Apart from a few flimsy coincidences.and a protagonist who made some silly errors of judgement, I enjoyed the novel.
When I tell you that this book brought me in I mean it. I love a good thriller that leaves me on the edge of my seat wondering are they going to get caught and what’s going to happen to Amy in the aftermath to not only the death of her husband but the miscarriage of her child.
I loved everything about this book. The writing was wonderful. The characters seemed real to where I felt what our two main characters are feeling. You can imagine the guilt that Kirsten is feeling being apart of the hit and run that she quite frankly didnt want to be apart of in the first place. You can feel the sadness of Amy when she finds out that her husband is dead. All you want to know is if she is going to get revenge on the people who took everything from her. And if she does get revenge you want to know how she is going to get the revenge.
I am a sucker for short chapters that this book had. I just think that they help me get threw a book somewhat faster as someone who is considered a slower reader compared to other readers within in book community. I think that this is the perfect read for summer. I think that if readers are looking for a good thriller then this is the book for them. Because the twist and turns are worth staying up late for.
I wasnt the biggest fan of Nick though while reading this. Because as someone who has had an interest in true crime for years, he seems very calm after murdering someone. We know that Kristen is freaking out after the death of Greg and is constantly worried about Amy and it is killing on the inside to where it is affecting every aspect of her life the week after. But the moments that the reader get to see of Nick its “I took care of it” and “you worry to much” like hes not worried about it.
This is the first book I've read by this author, but it certainly won't be the last. The Other Couple is a compelling read. Two of the characters created , Nick and Kirsten are true " love to hate" characters, which certainly added to the story. They are despicable self centred people. I couldn't put this book down as I wanted to know how the plot unfolded. and desperately wanted these characters to get their comeuppance.. A 5 star read for me.
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
That is the best way to describe this twisty, tense, domestic thriller.
This story definitely kept me turning the pages. Just left you with enough doubt to not let your guard down and think you have it all figured out.
This was my first book by Diane Jeffrey and won't be my last.
Thank you Netgalley and HQStories for my advanced readers copy.
WOW. I just loved this book. Gripping from the start and so many twists and turns that I hadnt expected. What a brilliant character Amy was, and I loved how the story came together at the end. Highly recommended and worth more than five stars.
