I know that any cookbook in its 50th anniversary and still in print will be a winner, especially from the great Madhur Jaffrey. This is no exception. It is packed full of delicious recipes and even various menu ideas. The introductory pages cover ingredients and tools. I can't wait to cook from this for years to come.
You can see why this is a classic cookbook, a standard by which all other cookbooks are judged. This comprehensive and easy to understand tome of Indian cooking is amazing. The depth and breadth of the choices of recipes is magnificent. If you have any desire at all to cook Indian food, THIS is the place to start.
This book is a classic for a reason! A really great resource. I'm going to recommend this to people who are interested in learning Indian cooking, as it seems authentic and delicious!
This is the 50 year Anniversary Edition of an absolutely iconic cookbook that introduced North Americans to accessible Indian recipes. Madhur Jaffrey is a treasure and so is this cookbook.
I received a copy of this eBook in exchange for an honest review.
I've recently tried and liked Indian food and the culture seems amazing. I thought this book would give me some insight into both but unfortunately there's no pictures. So I don't know what anything is supposed to look like or even be. There are lots of introductions but that didn't really help me with the how to cook these amazing foods there was little to no descriptions of what each recipe was for. I feel bad but can't give this more stars. I think it's made for someone with more of an Indian background.
This was a great introduction to making Indian food for me. I really enjoyed the stories and the recipes and will be looking forward to making some.
Excellent Indian cookbook written by an iconic cookbook author. There is a vast variety of Indian dishes ranging from meat and chicken and fish to vegetables and grains to breads and deserts. There are sample menus, descriptions of ingredients, and useful utensils and equipment. Each recipe has an introduction. Possible ingredient substitutions are listed as well. This is an excellent cookbook and would be a great addition to a cookbook shelf.
First.y I love the cover of An Invitation to Indian Cooking, classic and eye catching. Once inside the recipes are also classic and doable, sometimes Indian cookbooks seem full of unavailable ingredients, but as usual Madhur Jaffrey makes delicious food accessable to us all.
I really like how she takes many recipes and expands on variations or slight changes or additions to change it to your taste or preference. She also spends time explaining the best way to serve the meals which I always appreciate.
Thank you to NetGalley and the amazing publisher for the ARC of this title! I am so grateful to be auto-approved for this title!
I look forward to reading and reviewing. More to come!
If your library doesn[t have this title then I’d suggest purchasing this copy however, if you have the older version I see no reason to buy this copy. If this book had been updated with some new techniques I’d suggest a purchase however, a nostalgic view of a classic.
