Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC of "Fear the Silence" by Robert Bryndza. This was my first read by this author and after finishing this fast-paced, pulse-pounding thriller that had me rushing to learn the results! I enjoyed the Coratian setting and was suspicious of so much (I love books like that). Looking forward to reading more by this author.
Fear the Silence by Robert Bryndza is a gripping and suspenseful thriller that takes readers on a thrilling journey of grief, secrets, and dangerous deception. Driven by a compelling protagonist, Maggie, who refuses to accept her husband's alleged suicide, the story unfolds as she unravels a dark secret from his past. With the narrative seamlessly shifting between London and a secluded Croatian island, readers are kept on the edge of their seats, eagerly turning pages to uncover the truth. Bryndza skillfully builds tension, creating an atmosphere of unease and impending danger, while unexpected twists and turns leave readers gasping in surprise. Although the ending may feel rushed and lacking in closure, Fear the Silence remains a captivating and well-crafted thriller that fans of the genre will thoroughly enjoy.
From the very beginning, Fear the Silence grabs hold of readers' attention and refuses to let go until the final sentence. The protagonist, Maggie, is relatable and her unwavering determination to find the truth adds depth to the story. As she navigates between the bustling streets of London and the desolate shores of a Croatian island, Bryndza's vivid descriptions bring each location to life, intensifying the sense of danger. The pacing is relentless, and the intricate plot is filled with mystery and intrigue, with the author's ability to throw unexpected curveballs leaving readers constantly guessing. Trust, betrayal, and the lengths people go to protect their secrets are explored, adding complexity to the narrative. Despite a somewhat rushed and unsatisfying ending, Fear the Silence remains an enthralling standalone thriller that showcases Bryndza's talent for suspenseful storytelling, making it a must-read for fans of the genre.
I absolutely devoured this book, almost in one sitting.
The pacing was absolutely fabulous, you are thrown straight into the thick of it and don't come up for air until the very end.
I loved the tension created by being so desolate on the island. In a foreign country, unsure who to trust, it makes for an excellent setting, this book is an example of a pretty perfect thriller!
I got on board with the main character straight away, likable, resilient, but still flawed, confused and human. Makes Maggie someone you really get behind.
I loved the twists and turns, the tension of not knowing who she could put her trust in, while really hoping she would find an ally, really made this special.
I also loved the ending.. not quite a happy end, but perfect for this book!
Books like this are the reason I love reading anything by this author, this is certainly a read I won't forget in a hurry, and it made choosing my next quite tricky!!
Fear the Silence is definitely a page-turner that kept me on edge throughout. It's a fast-paced story of Maggie, newly a widow who cannot accept that her husband Will committed suicide. After the funeral, she goes to Croatia to close up their vacation home and it is there that she finds a clue that maybe there's more to the story. The plot goes back and forth between Croatia and London as Maggie works to unravel the mystery and save her own life in the process.
I give four stars for this review because I found the ending rushed and lacking. Anything more would be a spoiler, but I do recommend this book. Once I started, I couldn't put it down.
I loved this book. I couldn't believe how quickly I read it, the chapters are short but so easy to just keep on reading. I liked how the storyline developed and just had to keep reading to find out what actually happened and who was behind it all.
I am a big fan of Robert Bryndza so I was delighted to read this stand alone thriller. When Maggie's husband Will is found shot dead at their home she assumes he has been the victim of a burglary gone wrong. When she is told that he actually killed himself she refuses to believe it. After the funeral she escapes to their luxury holiday home in Croatia, where she receives a letter from Will, sent by a solicitor. This sets in motion a roller coaster ride of a story which sees Maggie fleeing across Europe. I really enjoyed this book - it had me sitting on the edge of my seat to the end. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.
Copied to Goodreads.
One of my favourite author's has done it again. This time with a superb stand alone thriller. Literally packed to the rafters with tension and suspense. A scary island and a secret. This book has everything I expect from this author and so much more. An intense rocket propelled thriller that kept me reading late into the night. Highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review.
Thanks to to NetGalley and the publisher for inviting me to review 'Fear The Silence', the latest book from Lowestoft born former actor turned crime writer Robert Bryndza. A deep love and knowledge through detailed research of Croatia has added greatly to the enjoyment for the reader of this book. A cleverly crafted plot with a feel good conclusion in a book that I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to readers of this genre. It has inspired me to want to read more books by this author.
This one started off promising, but fell flat for me. It became almost predictable in certain aspects and less of a thriller than I guess I was expecting it to be. By the last several chapters, I felt it seemed jumbled and so far off from how the story began I wondered if the author had any idea how he wanted it to end or of it was just “settled on” in the moment.
Really excited about this book. It was an Absolutely phenomenal read. High will recommend to others to pick up as soon as it is released.
First thing to say is that I am never disappointed with Robert Bryndza’s books and this is no different. Will and Maggie have been married for 24 years. Maggie is an Emergency Trauma Doctor and Will was a Forensic Doctor but had given up that career a few years ago to go into property management. Life was good until the day Will was found dead at home from a gunshot wound. The Police decided it was a suicide but Maggie did not believe this for a moment. She decides to go to their Croatian home to sort out her head space and this is where things become very strange and traumatic. While on the island she receives a letter which suggests Will was in some kind of trouble and left a clue for her to find out what really happened. The story drags slightly in Croatia but on the whole it is worth a read and the way Maggie comes up with theories is perhaps a little odd. I found the book an easy read and wanted to find out quickly what happened. Interesting ending and not expected in some ways – twists are always good for a book
This story was fast paced with a creepy atmosphere, I literally read it in one day. I love Roberts police procedure books but just as much enjoyed this stand alone thriller.
Really liked the Croatian island setting and also not knowing who you can trust which I did not work out.
Thank you so much to Raven St publishing and netgalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
“Three can keep a secret... If two of them are dead.”
Maggie said goodbye to her husband and cat and left for another day at the hospital. Only to finish her day in the morgue with her husbands cold lifeless body. Grief heavy, alone and unwilling to accept Will’s fate Maggie will stop at nothing to prove her husband didn’t kill himself.
She knows there’s more to it and is consumed by her grief and questions. Will had so much to live for and after the funeral she travelled to their holiday home on an island off the coast of Croatia. Where is where she finds a letter from Will, with a clue and the reassurance she needed.
As Maggie begins to piece it all together she realises she no longer safe and someone with secrets will go to any length to keep those secrets buried.
I’m a sucker for anything this man writes and was pleasantly surprised to see a stand-alone. If you’ve not read The Girl in the Ice (Erika Foster) series or Kate Marshall series and you’re a female lead police thriller/mystery lover you’re missing out.
This fast paced, heartbreaking, tragic, isolating and wild story has you flipping pages and canceling plans, it’s one to add to the TBR.
Maggie is a doctor and her husband Will is hauled in with a gunshot wound to the head. Will quickly dies and Maggie is devastated. She travels to their island vacation home to close it up for the winter.
While there she finds a letter from Will and it turns her world upside down.
This was an excellent read that I finished quickly. Thanks NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for this ARC that will be released July 6, 2023!
Thank you to NetGalley for this ebook. This stand alone thriller is a page turner. Two doctors, educated established and in love with each other. Maggie, an ER doc is on her shift when her husband, Will comes in with a self inflicted gun shot wound and the world she thought she knew falls apart. How can you lay your head down next to someone every single night who holds that many secrets? At every turn during Maggie’s trip through grief she finds more and more things to make her wonder if Will really took his own life. This is my first Robert Bryndza book and it will not be my last. This did not disappoint.
Easy to read and pulls you in from the start, full of action and I needed to know what was gonna happen next.
Being a huge fan of this author’s other books which are in a series, I was super excited when I saw the news he was releasing his first standalone novel in the psychological thriller genre.
The setting for the story, takes place mainly on a small island in Croatia. You get a great sense of place with this picturesque island but as it is out of season, the island is deserted with the local businesses closed up until the following year. Whilst I could see the beauty of the place in my head, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of trepidation that something sinister was lurking around the corner.
Maggie makes a great protagonist, a forty seven year old doctor who has put her love for her job at the forefront. She and Will were happily married but she wonders how well she really knew him when she hears the news that it was him that pulled the trigger. With her being so wrapped up in her work, she has very few friends and no family to speak of. The author sets it all perfectly and it took no time at all for me to lose myself into the story.
Fear the Silence is a cracking story by Robert Bryndza! The pacing and tension had me hanging off every word. Packed full of secrets and suspense with the story taking some unexpected twists and turns, I couldn’t devour this book quickly enough as I was so engrossed. Kudos to the author for such a stellar job and I hope that he has more standalone novels up his sleeve!
I have read a lot of the novels from this author and I really enjoyed this. The plot was interesting and not unrealistic, the story moved on quickly without becoming at all dry. The characters where likeable and easy to follow. I would certainly recommend this to fans of Bryndza but also for those who have never read any of his work before. This sits easily within the genre.
I had never read any of Robert Bryndza's books before but I thought it looked interesting after reading so many WWII dramas. This book was "couldn't put it down" amazing! Maggie's search to find out the truth about Will's death kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed reading about their home in Croatia and everything she went through trying to solve the mystery. The book was chalk full of characters who weren't what they seemed when we are first introduced to them. I'll definitely be checking out more of his books. I appreciate NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book.
This was a wonderful book. One of the best I’ve read in quite a while. This is an edge of your seat. Read all night book. A woman’s husband is found shot dead in their home. The first rule is suicide. Then the suspense builds, and you find out some thing shocking. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing an advanced copy to me
