I am a huge fan of Mr. Bryndza and I have especially loved his Detective Foster and Kate Marshall series, but Fear The Silence is a stand alone novel about a twisty mystery... there are murders, government corruption, and a person's journey to the path of justice.

First up, it is a read that grabs you from the first pages and it is impossible to put down until you have finished it. Really, do not start this before bed... you will have lost a nights sleep, but you will know the answers to some of the questions brewing in your mind!

One thing I prefer with Mr. Bryndza's series... you get more depth of character with each book. I felt that was missing with Fear The Silence. I also felt that Maggie could have been smarter... she seemed a bit too trusting to me.

However, if you like a grab-you-by-the-throat thriller... you will love this book. It is impossible to put down once you start!

I very much recommend.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Raven Street Publishing for this copy in return for my honest review.

This is my second book by this author. My first one was from his series - this one a stand alone. I really enjoyed the first, but wasn’t as keen on this story.
A recent widow, trying to find out what happened to her husband. Intrigue, conspiracy and peril. Will the corrupt ones pay the price?

Author Robert Bryndza once again does NOT disappoint! Fear The Silence is a twisty, exciting read that kept this reader on edge. This is a cannot-put-down book, "just one more chapter...." we all know those great books. This is another chilling mystery. Suicide? or is it???? Shocking ending, and not expected. Well done! Thank you #FearTheSilence #NetGalley.for allowing me to read this ARC. I highly recommend it.

A riveting read!

Margaret "Maggie" Kendall met Will in medical college. Will was from an affluent family. Maggie's upbringing was far different.

The morning Maggie heads off to work, she watches her husband looking at her from a window holding Luna, a stray cat that wormed her way into their hearts.

Maggie just takes a breath after dealing with a trauma victim when another victim comes into the hospital. Maggie recognizes the victim, Will, her husband, as she stands in shock.

Maggie believes her husband's death is a robbery gone wrong and is blindsided by the police version.

Maggie goes to their vacation home to close it up and collect mementos of Will's to give to his family. No sooner has she arrived when she receives a letter from Will with a cryptic message.

Maggie does not realize that the letter from the grave will change her life.

It begs the question, to what extent do you know someone? I was angry with Will for putting Maggie in a terrible position but admired her fight. I'm still wondering about the part that Maggie's mom puts in an appearance. Was she hallucinating or was her mother really there? The ending was gratifying! I thought it was a fascinating story!

I received an ARC and have voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

Maggie has no idea of the secrets her husband Will was hiding. Only once he is dead does she find out the scope of what he was living with. This is a fast-paced explosive thriller which will keep you engaged from page one! I already enjoy reading Robert Brynzda’s books and this was no exception. The ending was perfect – so satisfying! If you love a good solid thriller, this is for you! Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

I’m a great fan of Robert Bryndza’s writing, so was eager to read this stand-alone story, and it didn’t disappoint.
Maggie, a doctor, has a happy life with her husband Will until tragedy strikes and he dies. She then retreats to their holiday home ( by the way, never depend on technology to control everything in your house….) on a Croatian island and discovers that Will had secrets that make her question their whole relationship, and that put her, and those around her, in deadly danger.
The story rips along at breakneck speed, as Maggie overcomes various obstacles, and finally discovers the source of the mystery, aided by her unconventional family.
Maggie is a great character, she can certainly stand up for herself, and fight her corner, but I found the person behind the conspiracy unconvincing.
Despite that, it was a riveting read.

Thanks to Netgalley and Raven Street Publishing for the opportunity to read this book.

I hate to say this but I also have to be honest… this book just didn’t do it for me. I struggled to finish it.

Well written! This book keeps you in suspense for the most part. It was a bit slow at times and did take me a bit to read but overall a decent thriller.

Fear The Silence by Robert Bryndza is quite a wild ride of a read! It starts our with Maggie and her husband Will, both are doctors although Will had quit practicing years back to take up his love of fixing up houses. They are very happy and happy with a decision not to have children.

Maggie is an emergency room doctor and one night she was surprised and shocked to see her husband on a gurney and struggling for his life. After he passes away, Maggie needs to take care of a lot of things including going to their vacation home in Croatia on a very small island to get some things Will’s mother would like to have. There is one ferry a week, so she will need to stay at least a week, which she does not mind, although it will be just her and two island caretakers on the island because it is late in the season and vacationers are not there in the winter.

Maggie finds a strange letter written in her husband’s hand, which she verifies with an attorney who claims not to know the contents of the letter but tells her that it was absolutely written by her husband. In the letter, Will tells her he loves her very much and that if she finds the letter, he is dead, but not at his own hand. This she was sure of, but the coroner said it was suicide.

Then, she thinks someone is coming into her house at night while she tries, but is unable, to sleep.

The book is not only a page turner but a suspenseful and can’t put it down story. Read this book if you like thrillers, read this book if you don’t because you will still love it!

Fear The Silence by Robert Bryndza was a wonderful, terrifying, and suspenseful novel. Maggie is a successful trauma surgeon married to Will, who is an equally successful property manager. Her life is forever changed when a patient with a gunshot wound to his head enters the ER. The patient is her husband, but what is thought to be random violence turns out to be much more. Maggie escapes to their vacation home in Tisina, but what should be a safe haven turns into a terrifying and deadly experience.
There are so many twists and turns to this mystery, it will keep you at the edge of your seat. You will never guess the ending, nor be able to keep this story out of your mind for a long time!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone who loves a great mystery. Thank you to Raven Street Publishing, and Netgalley for this ARC.

3.5🌟
During her shift as an ER physician, Maggie is on hand when a gunshot victim is wheeled in. Wait…this must be a horrible dream! There on the gurney is her husband! Her mind has blacked-out. It can’t be so.

The investigation into Will’s death points to suicide, but Maggie refuses to believe it. Retreating to their island home in Croatia, Maggie remains positive about her husband not committing suicide. But of course, that would mean he was murdered! So now Dr. Maggie needs to find the killer before she’s silenced as well!

This was my second read from this popular author, and once again fell just short of my expectations. The opening was great and I was all in until we took off for Croatia. Then it just lost its grip on me.

I can’t quite explain where it went wrong. Perhaps Maggie’s behaviors? All the references to the unrelenting storm?🤷🏻‍♀️

On the positive side, it was a rapid read if you’re looking for a lighter thriller with plenty of action.

Robert Bryndza has a huge loyal following and there are many five-star reviews for this book so I am a bit of an outlier here(once again). I wanted to love it as much as everyone else but I just fell short of reaching those extra stars!

Thank you to NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing.

This is an enjoyable standalone novel by one of my favorite authors, although I do think it stretched the limits of human endurance a little beyond believable limits. Basically, it tracks physician Maggie Kendall's attempts to find out what really happened to her beloved husband Will, who was brought into her emergency room with a gunshot wound that turned fatal. The official word is suicide; but Maggie is convinced that something more sinister happened and sets out to prove it.

Will, a former doctor who exchanged his profession to one rooted in architecture and design, built them a gorgeous vacation "smart" home on an island off Croatia. To shore things up there, Maggie makes a visit - and receives a letter from a man who claims to be Will's solicitor (a surprise in and of itself). It's a cryptic message that, at least to Maggie, bolsters her belief that Will's death was murder, not suicide - even though it raises more questions than it answers.

Shortly thereafter, Maggie is involved in suspicious "accidents," adding more fuel to the murder theory fire and nearly ending her quest for the truth the hard way. Re-reading Will's letter, and a chance encounter, bring even more clues - and more danger. From that point on, it's a race to see whether the truth will be uncovered (and whether Maggie will live to see that happen). The whole thing is a fast-paced adventure, and I thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review a prerelease copy.

The book started a little slow for me, but then it got going! Well written and lots of twists and turns. One of the things I liked was that at the end of many chapters there was a bit of a cliffhanger. I had to make myself put the book down or I might have been up all night. Really made you look forward to getting back to the book.

Enjoyable, and an interesting ending!

Wow - to use a cliche, this book is a real page turner! You get sucked into a devastating tragedy with thrilling hooks that keep you reading way past your original stopping time. This is my first read from Robert Bryndza but he's now on my thriller radar. Be prepared for a bumpy, scary ride. Just be prepared to turn the lights on or you will be looking over your shoulder.

Thanks for the opportunity to read this!

Bit on the fence with this one a 3 1/2 to 4 stars, not great from Mr Byndza nor awful, middle of the road read. A thriller which is ok for a holiday read, easy to devour and follow that doesn't get the heart pounding, well for me anyway. I do like my books to have elements of truth when story telling or 'that's possible', when towards the end there is a mention of detention under the mental health act some of the facts were very wrong and got me annoyed - sorry I am a MH nurse of 20 years experience. Not in the same league as Detective Erika Foster series. Thank you Netgalley for the pre published version and the publisher for a copy.

I have been a big fan of Robert's works and have been reading some of his novels through Netgalley as well as my own purchases. So when I saw this new book available for review here - I jumped at it. I took it on my kindle to a short vacation trip with family and was hooked on it when I got some me time.

As was expected the book was racing through and through, with tense build ups and moments of trying to become a detective and guess who was behind all the gruesome incidents. The character buildup and the descriptions of the house and the locations were as one comes to expect from Robert. One was almost feeling and seeing like Maggie did.

The only thing that let me down was the ending. Somehow I am now liking the fact that there is no convoluted explaining of an unexpected character being the culprit - which Robert executes very well - but I was not very convinced with the simple ending - it was sort of an anticlimax to all the buildups.

One thing is sure - this is extremely potent film material - I am sure it will make a great gripping thriller movie!! Would love to watch it on screen.

Benjamin Franklin has been quoted as saying, “Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead.” Robert Bryndza uses this as the theme of his new standalone thriller, Fear The Silence, which is set in London and on a small, remote Croatian island. Margaret “Maggie” Kendall is an Accident & Emergency physician whose husband Will is a former forensic pathologist who left medicine to work in property design. The couple are childless by design but are thinking of getting a cat. After spending a lovely, leisurely Sunday, Maggie heads off to work with no idea what lies ahead.

She’s barely finished saving a young stab victim’s life when another critically injured man is brought in. To her horror, it’s Will. Could things possibly get any worse? Unfortunately, yes. The rest of the events in the book, as they say, are mostly downhill from there. Will does not survive. His death is ruled a suicide, and Maggie is devastated. This is all in the blurb, so I’m not giving away secrets here.

Her mother has been dead for some time, and she’s lost touch with her stepfather. She’s not close with her in-laws; in fact, her relationship with her mother-in-law is icy, at best. She takes time away from work and goes to the island home that Will had built for them off the coast of Croatia. It is virtually uninhabited, and Maggie will be on her own for an entire week. Cue spooky music. Will had made sure that the home had state-of-the art electronic security, lighting, and gadgets throughout. What could possibly go wrong?

For starters, a letter arrives in what looks like Will’s handwriting. Is that possible? Its contents are shocking, and Maggie calls the solicitor to inquire. He verifies that Will had indeed written the letter and instructed that it be sent upon his death. Beyond that, he is unaware of its subject matter. Maggie is disturbed and bewildered, but she is determined to get to the bottom of it. Most importantly, she’s now convinced that Will did not kill himself.

Events that follow are puzzling. Some are downright creepy. Whoever was behind Will’s death may not be finished yet. Bryndza has done a terrific job creating suspense and secrecy. I found some of the events unrealistic – too pat – although they did not go perfectly for a time. I did get a satisfied chuckle out of the finale, however.

I received a digital copy of Fear the Silence as an ARC in return for my honest review. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks to NetGalley, Raven Street Publishing, and Robert Bryndza.

A very gritty, hard hitting story. Starting off painting a very good picture of Will and Mags' life, it all comes crashing down very quickly, and what happens over the next few weeks don't make sense to Mags. When she is left various clues to what's going on it doesn't make any sense.

Mags' life is thrown into complete turmoil and she doesn't know who to trust. Everyone around her seems to be getting hurt or worse. Just when you think she is going to make it out of the situation she's in, it all comes crashing down again. What a journey! Excellent and I could not out this book down.

Maggie’s husband of 24 years, Will, was found dead in his home office from gunshot wounds. Maggie, a trauma surgeon, thinks he was the victim of a burglary, perhaps someone he recognised who wanted to silence him - the police believe differently though and inform Maggie that Will had pulled the trigger himself!

Maggie travels to their holiday home on a Croatian island, it’s getting towards the end of the holiday season so she needs to close the house up for winter. However, whilst there, she finds a letter with her name on it, written by Will. It’s a letter that disturbs and frightens her, and things are about to go from frightening to terrifying in a very short time!

‘Fear The Silence’ pulled me in from the start, it was gripping and tense, and there were more than a few scenes that had me on the edge of my seat! Recommended.

Many thanks to Raven Street Publishing and Netgalley for introducing me to Robert Bryndza. This thriller was just that, and kept my rapt attention most of the time.

Maggie and Will are middle-aged professionals living the affluent life of their dreams: Maggie is a trauma surgeon, and Will has left medicine to pursue architecture, his passion. The author quickly paints a picture of a happy life together, until Will is carried into the trauma unit where his wife Maggie is working, dying of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. Maggie has a very hard time accepting the idea that Will has killed himself. She saw no signs of depression, no sign of anything amiss.

In the following days and weeks, as Maggie tries to come to grips with her new life, she travels to the vacation home they built on an island in Croatia. This is when things get scary and creepy. Once there, Maggie will discover more about a part of Will’s life he never shared with her, while alive. However, it turns out that he has made arrangements to tell her everything, should something happen to him. Without giving away too much of the story, I must say that this part of the story was hard for me to fathom, that Will would dump all of this on his poor, unsuspecting wife, a woman he was very much in love with.

The author’s depiction of Maggie’s experiences on this island in Croatia, during the quiet, deserted off-season, is vivid and memorable, and her angst feels real. This part of the novel was extremely well written.

However, Will’s willingness to get himself into such trouble, to compromise himself in such a way, does raise some questions about Will’s morals and life that I don’t feel were answered in a very believable way. Maggie, meanwhile, is an incredibly strong character, and very smart. Through sheer toughness and a little luck, she reinvents her life–perhaps a little too tidily. All in all, this story was compelling, if not always believable. I would happily read this author’s work again.
