This is a fast-paced, grip your seat and hang on type of mystery. Maggie Kendall, is a trauma doctor, working in an ER, when her husband Will is brought in with a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. After the funeral, Maggie heads to their vacation home in Croatia to close the house for the winter. But strange things start to happen after an unknown lawyer delivers a letter from Will. What does the letter mean? Once the journey starts, there is no ending it, Maggie must see it through.
This is a well-written, extremely engaging story. Maggie is a great character; the plot moves quickly and in a fashion that makes a reader want to get to the next chapter. Without giving away any spoilers, the scary thing about this book is the depth of how power can corrupt and the extremes people will go to keep power. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope to read more by the author.
A very interesting book,. The plot became a little far fetched at times but nonetheless I couldn’t put it down. A thoroughly good read!
[book:Fear The Silence|75505890] by [author:Robert Bryndza|5763380] is a book you keep reading as it progresses because it is filled with changing behavior. We are setup with the killing of Will, as Mags husband, and it is treated as a suicide. Mags is a doctor at a London Hospital in the trauma unit and things go on from there. She is overwhelmed by this and doesn't believe it for one minute. She goes to an island off the coast of Croatia, (Tiŝina Island) to gather things that were Will's and close it up for the winter. Things happen and we have another person who was Will's friend killed. Many other things happen which you will enjoy and I will let you rtead about them.
Maggie and Will spend an idyllic, peaceful day, enjoying life and each other. Waving Will goodbye, Maggie leaves their home, preparing herself for the night shift at the hospital where she is a trauma doctor. Later that evening Maggie’s world is rocked, and a despairing chain of events bring all she knows tumbling down.
I really like this author and his writing style, but have to say that I don’t think this is one of Bryndza’s best. I’m in two minds regarding the pace of the book. At times the plot is very slow and does lose its way, then other parts seem very rushed. The ending with the return to the island seems particularly lame.
Implausible actions and characters abound in this book, and what is the fixation with tinned goods? Sorry!
To anyone new to this author, please try his other books, they are excellent!
Thank you NetGalley.
A great suspense thriller from a new to me author which I found hard to put down. When Maggie's husband turns up dead, supposedly from suicide she wants to find out the truth and ends up isolated on a small island trying to unravel his secrets.
The tension builds throughout the book which makes you rush towards the ending. Although I questioned a few of her decisions I found this book engaging and would happily read another by this author.
Maggie is a doctor, married to Will.
Will commits suicide and Maggie goes to their Croatian island home, which is decidedly different from her previous summer visits with Will. She finds out more about the events leading to Will's death, and cannot be sure who is on her side. There's lots of drama and twists to the story.
Robert Bryndza smashes it again. I absolutely love his writing and he is fast becoming my favourite crime/thriller writer.
This one was certainly more thriller than I've come to expect from Bryndza, but still a beautifully woven plot that will have your heart hammering in your chest. It kept me on the edge of my seat and desperate to unravel the mystery.
I found this whole book so interesting. It has a cast of characters filled with flaws (obvious or disguised) and it has a mystery that you just can't leave. I finished this book in one sitting - it was that good.
A standalone book from an amazing author. I loved this book, it had me hooked from page one and I couldn't put it down. It kept me up all night reading but the lack of sleep was 100% worth it
At the start of the book, we meet Maggie and Will, a couple, blissfully happy, enjoying a lazy morning. Very swiftly, Maggie’s life is turned on its head. Will dies, very unexpectedly, at his own hands. Will’s family are not supportive of Maggie, she feels increasingly isolated and marginalised, even during the planning of her husband’s funeral.
Maggie needs to close up their beautiful, remote Croatian island retreat for the winter, and collect personal belongings. She hopes this visit will give her busy mind time to process, and somehow start to heal from her trauma.
The start of the book has a slow pace, seeing Maggie grieving for her husband, Will, after his sudden death. When we reach the island, Tisina, the pace really picks up. Maggie’s feeling that Will’s death is not all it seems intensifies.
The issue for me was that it picked up so much, that it stretched plausibility, stretched to the point of disbelief. It felt as if I had been transported into a different book, a high octane spy thriller; which felt mis-matched to where the story started.
I have seen so many glowing reviews for Fear The Silence, but I just didn’t feel that same draw from the book.
I know Robert is a hugely popular author, loved by so many readers. I have read other reviews saying that this book, isn’t as good as his series. So I will try one of those to see how I feel.
I really needed a great read when I picked up Fear The Silence, as my last two reads didn’t hold my attention. Sadly I’m still looking for my next great read. Just 3⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me.
Wow, what did I just read! There are so many surprises in this book that totally floored me. Margaret (Maggie) Kendall is a trauma surgeon and her husband Will, a former pathologist who left his medical profession to go into real estate, seem to have it all. One night while she is working with another doctor and her best friend, Diane, Will is brought in dead which was ruled a suicide. Maggies refuses to believe it was suicide and takes a leave to go to their fancy vacation home in Croatia to go through things and close it up for the season. After she arrives in Coratia, her colleague and best friend, Diane, is hit by a car who flees the scence. All of a sudden a lot of really strange thighs begin to happen which makes Maggie think her life is in danger. This book kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish.
Imagine receiving a letter from your dead husband, or having the smart house that your husband designed try to kill you! These are just some of the things our protagonist has to endure while trying to solve her husband’s staged suicide. This book was suspenseful and full of intrigue. I wondered if I would have had the presence of mind to survive. This book does not disappoint!
Fear the Silence by Robert Bryndza is an adrenaline-fueled rollercoaster ride that had me hooked from beginning to end. I devoured this gripping psychological thriller in less than 24 hours, unable to tear my eyes away from its intense pages. The author masterfully captures the essence of fear, successfully evoking a range of emotions throughout the narrative.
One aspect that truly stood out for me was the palpable sense of dread that permeated the story. Bryndza skillfully crafted scenes that had my heart racing, making me feel Maggie's fear on a visceral level. I found myself holding my breath as Maggie found herself alone in a glass-fronted house on a desolate island. The isolation and vulnerability she experienced were expertly portrayed, leaving me on the edge of my seat.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the majority of the book, I must admit that the ending felt slightly far-fetched. Although it continued to deliver the drama that kept me enthralled, there were moments when I found myself suspending my disbelief. However, despite this minor flaw, the overall story was brilliantly written, and the plot threads were intricately woven together to create a cohesive and satisfying conclusion.
The character development in Fear the Silence was outstanding. Maggie's trauma and the psychological toll it took on her were depicted with raw authenticity. The author delved deep into her psyche, allowing readers to empathise with her struggles. Although I felt that the resolution of Maggie's trauma was somewhat over the top, it did not overshadow the fact that this was a truly fantastic book.
In summary, Fear the Silence is an engrossing read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Robert Bryndza's writing is impeccable, and his ability to elicit fear and suspense is commendable. Despite a slightly exaggerated ending to Maggie's ordeal, the overall story is a thrilling and satisfying experience. I highly recommend this book to fans of psychological thrillers who crave an adrenaline rush and enjoy a well-crafted narrative.
I haven't read this author before and I have to say I love his writing style
So much going on in this book that keeps your interest throughout. Thought it was going to end one way but pleasantly surprised that I was wrong. Fantastic book with a great ending.
Will he checking more out from this author.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.
Thanks to negalley for this arc When Maggie,
learns that her husband has been shot in their home, she thinks it must have been a burglary gone wrong, she is then informed it looked like Will had shot himself. . NO why would he do that??? After Wills funeral maggie goes off to their holiday home in croatia that will had designed, she finds a letter in one of his jackets, which was drawn up by a different solicitor to the families, maggie has to piece it alltogether and find out what will was really up to. Well written, great thriller read, highley recommend
This is the first book that I have read by Robert Bryndza. I have a friend who reads all of his book so I was happy to have gotten a copy of Fear The Silence from Netgalley since thrillers are my favorite genre. I was sadly disappointed in the book, I had a hard time getting into it and almost did not finish it. There were good parts and I am glad I finished it. I will not give up on Bryndzaś books, since I see that most of his book reviews and ratings are so good.
Fear The Silence
by Robert Bryndza
Fear the Silence was a very wild ride. Kept me glued to my Kindle to the last page.Full of twists and turns and some omg moments. I highly enjoyed it and recommend it.
Maggie is a 47 year old doctor who has it all - a loving husband, mulitple homes, and a successful career that she loves. However it all comes crashing down when her husband Will shockingly commits suicide. Maggie has no time to mourn before a series of odd incidents puts her in the center of mystery that may be tied to Will's death. She uncovers secrets reaching into the highest level of government that people are willing to kill to protect and has to go into hiding in order to survive. This book had me hooked from the first few pages and the interesting characters and fast-paced plot kept me turning pages until the end.
I love Robert Bryndza and have read and loved all his Kate Marshall, Erika Foster, Coco Pinchard series. But to be honest this book disappointed me, maybe because I was expecting another edge of the seat thriller. Something that would keep me awake at night rather than putting me to sleep. I’m sorry this was just not to my taste. The story was mediocre and had a bit of suspense but I thought the book rambled a lot. There were paragraphs and paragraphs of descriptions, which could have been done away with, I ended up skipping these. The ending was also forced and very disappointing. I can’t believe this has been written by the brilliant Robert Bryndza. Anyways, I still look forward to reading his next book, as his other books have been amazing.
Thank you Raven Street Publishing for an advanced copy of this ebook and giving me a chance to review this book!
I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a huge fan of Robert Bryndza and I’ve read most of his series of detective novels, so I was excited to see this standalone novel. This was something different.
I have to be honest and say it wasn’t my favourite and I like his series much better. The pacing on this was off and it felt way to rushed. There was a lot of stuff packed into this little novel and it just didn’t come together properly for me.
That all being said, it was an interesting plot line and I did manage to finish it quickly. It was ok but not on the same level as his series.
Firstly I would like to thank netgalley and Raven street publishers and the brilliant author Robert bryndza for a early copy of his book to read.
This is one of my favourite authors, I've read his crime reads Erika Foster series and love the Kate Marshall series. This is a standalone read.Maggie a doctor working a shift when her husband Will came in shot, did he commit suicide?or was someone behind it? She is not convinced it was suicide. She takes a break to her holiday home where she finds a letter from Will. There are hidden secrets will she discover the truth..my rating is 3.5 for me the storyline was good but I couldn't connect with the characters and struggled with this read...please still read this book as many readers gave this book a high rating...looking forward to reading more of his books.
