This is such a hard book to rate. Because I loved the idea behind it and I thought Fleur's journey was powerful. I thought she had so much character growth, especially from the beginning when she lets her ex Jasper treat her like garbage. I liked seeing her challenge herself and build up that confidence. She had such a sad backstory, I really wanted to see her excel. And if this book was just women's fiction, it would've worked. For starters, I don't know why it's marketed as a romantic comedy. Secondly, the romance just didn't hit. I wanted to love Matt, I really did, but he didn't do it for me. He just seemed like he was controlling and treated Fleur like a baby. The setting was great though and I did like city girl embraces country life setup.

I am a huge fan of Maxine Morrey’s and with You’ve Got This! she has written a witty, emotional, inspirational and captivating read with two great characters you will root for and fall in love with. A wonderful story about letting go, moving on, new beginnings and healing from the past, Maxine Morrey’s You’ve Got This! is a terrific romantic tale you just have to devour in one sitting.

If you need a simple rom-com that will give you some warm and fuzzy feelings, You’ve Got This is a perfect read.

Fleur has had a very difficult upbringing and also makes many questionable choices. She tends to mold herself to fit who she is with instead of being herself. After another bad breakup, she ends up homeless and unemployed without warning. She finds a live-in job in Wales, where she meets Matt. Things may begin to look up.

You’ve Got This is a slow-burn romance with a Hallmark Movie feel. It is also quite funny. The characters are developed well, especially Fleur, as she slowly begins to discover who she is. The theme of Found Family is strong throughout and is a great addition to the story.

I only wished there was a little more depth in Fleur and Matt's chemistry. It just didn’t quite go where I wanted it to.

This book didn’t make me laugh as much as I was expecting it to. I also didn’t really care for the love interest, Matt. I feel like the whole soldier thing is overused in romcons.

Maxine Morrey is an author who does not disappoint. You've Got This centres on Fleur French, a young woman who has spent too long changing herself to fit in with her boyfriend Jasper. When her relationship comes crashing down around her, Fleur finds herself homeless, jobless and single. The time has come to work out who she really is, rather than who someone wants her to be. When she finds herself taking a job in a small hotel in the country, Fleur slowly starts to discover who she is, whilst making new friends and romance with someone who really sees her might just come knocking at her door!

This was such a lovely novel - whilst there are things in Fleur's past that have clearly damaged her, she was a great character who has some fight in her. I really enjoyed following her story, and I am always happy when there is the added bonus of an attractive, strong, loving man thrown into the mix!

Matt and his family were amazing and so good to Fleur. Jasper’s effect on Fleur was sad, but the support system she had around her was meaningful. Overall, I liked Fleur’s story, but the pacing was a bit slow for me.

I have given this book several shots but could not get through it. The dialogue is so painful. I don’t understand how anyone can just go on and on talking about themselves. The female protagonist is so annoying. And how does a woman who has just lost everything suddenly get offered everything she could ever want just because her personality is so awesome. I think we need better stories.

This book wasn't for me. Fleur is someone who is trying to figure out who she is now that she got dumped by her controlling boyfriend. Matt steps in as a friend but he ends up being more controlling then her ex and he is also condescending. Found the whole thing very slow paced and annoying.

But her encounter with Matt, the Welsh hiking guide, prompts her to embrace authenticity and courage. Observing her evolution into a self-assured individual, especially when she's at her most vulnerable, is profoundly moving. It delves into themes of chosen family, self-acceptance, and new beginnings, emphasizing that home transcends physical structures, and the bonds we forge can be deeper than blood ties.

Fleur and her boyfriend Jasper are on holiday in Wales. When she voices her opinion in snowdonia, he dumps her there and then leaving her homeless and jobless all in one fell swoop.

Matt is the tour guide that was showing Fleur and Jasper the mountains, he is horrified by Jasper's behaviour and takes Fleur under his wing. His family offer her a job and accommodation in their hotel. Here she flourishes and begins a journey to find who she really is and where she belongs.

I love all of Maxine Morrey’s work and this is no exception. This is thoroughly enjoyable.

I really wanted to like this book and the plot and location were good but in the end I didn’t even finish it. Overall it came down to this book just being very wordy and the plot did not move along at a quick enough pace.

Brilliantly written with a beautiful message. I adored this book and felt it hit me with the message that it made it personal in the best way

This book was an absolute gem. I always love a good friends to lovers story and I’m honestly a sucker for British romance novels. I loved the characters in this, especially Fleur. As awful as this is, I could see so many similarities with her character in the beginning of the book. The constant apologizing for everything and anything, taking the blame for everything, the lack of confidence, etc. So in a way, I think this book touched me in a way in may not for others. I really enjoyed seeing Fleur’s transformation throughout the book. She grew so much, becoming so strong and independent. I loved the storyline and how everything slowly came together for her. I also enjoyed watching the relationship between Fleur and Matt develop. It was so sweet and they really seemed to have a great chemistry. Overall this was a sweet heartwarming book. If you enjoy a slow burn romance novel, this is a great one to pick up.

I loved this book!! Friends to lovers is just so goodddd!! Loved the story, loved the characters and I really loved the way this book was written!!

I really enjoyed the first book I read from this author, so when I saw there was a new book I jumped at the chance to read it. Because I loved the first one I read so much. So I jumped in and started reading and…man I really did not like Matt. He infantilizes Fleur so so so much and it frustrated me to no end. Yes, she hasn’t hiked in the past, but come on she is not a child. She can walk and talk and do all the things a normal human being does. Ugh.

When the book opens Fleur is on a trip with her horrible boyfriend who does not appreciate her at all. They are supposed to be hiking a mountain in Wales, but the weather is not cooperating so their guide, Matt, won’t take them. They end up doing another hike, but the boyfriend is not happy and ends up breaking up with Fleur in a very public way leaving her without a job, house, or anything really. So she is struggling to figure out what to do. Luckily Matt’s mom owns the inn where they are staying and needs some help in the restaurant and offers her a job including a room which she accepts.

Since she has lived in London her whole life she is not used to the outdoors, but she is eager to explore the area. She asks Matt for suggestions and man he was annoying. He acted like she couldn’t put one foot in front of the other if it wasn’t on a sidewalk. Like…We are avid hikers, backpackers, etc and a hike in the mountains might be difficult, there might be logs to go over or under, rocks, etc but most people can figure out how to do that even if it is their first time taking a walk in the woods. He treated her multiple times like she was a literal child. Once she was looking in the river and he freaked out like a dad watching their 2 year old who doesn’t know how to swim who gets too close to the pool and grabs her before she can fall in…which…if it really is that dangerous and she shouldn’t be that close to the edge you can just say hey the edge here isn’t stable might not want to get too close or whatever. Not like you are a child I must pull you away from the edge. That’s how it read. Or when they were hiking together at one point she wanted to go to the top of a hill she could see and he was just like I don’t know if you are capable of that….I get it, hiking up hills is strenuous on the cardiovascular system and all that, but like plenty of people do it! She is not completely out of shape and can’t walk two feet so…maybe just go? I mean you can always turn back if it is too steep or whatever for you. Ugh! This all might not sound that bad, but reading it it really really came across like he saw her as a literal child who is incapable of taking care of herself. He doesn’t suggest a walk along the river that a friendly person she met suggested to her because well…there are a few spots that are uneven and you maybe some rocks so for someone not used to walking that might be too much. I don’t know. He came across as condescending as well and oh I did not like him at all. I would not have been able to deal with him if I were Fleur, but luckily for him she is so passive she doesn’t realize how awful he is really.

So then we have the end which happens way too quickly and everything works out way too easily. Fleur is magically amazing at everything she does, the issue she has with Matt (which why he didn’t try and fix it immediately doesn’t make any sense) was fixed in 2 seconds, and everything is perfect all of a sudden. Maybe if I didn’t hate Matt so much I wouldn’t have minded the very convenient ending, but I did so it didn’t work for me.

This book starts with a woman getting out of a controlling relationship and being offered a place to stay with a handsome mountain guide and his family. With a bonus backdrop of a small town in Wales. From there, we get some character development from our female main character and some romance.

Let's start with what I liked about the book. I enjoyed seeing Fleur begin to find herself with help from the people she had met along the way. I especially liked her friendship with Anna. I found the moments when she realised maybe she didn't need a man to make her happy refreshing in the storyline. Matt is a military man and was very protective of her, and it was nice to see a healthier portrayal of that after the controlling boyfriend.

But unfortunately, the romance just didn't work for me. For starters, he kept making jokes about liking her better before she started finding herself after her previous relationship, and it just didn't sit right with me. The way they got together didn't really fit with how insecure she was, and the relationship had so much drama given how late in the book they got together.

I decided to give it 2.5 stars rounded to 3 for netgalley and goodreads. The potential was there, and part of me wishes the romance was taken out so we could get a more fleshed out journey for fleur.

Omg!
I was invested in this one from the word go.

After meeting Fleur and the terrible a**hat that was Jasper, seeing the way he treated her, learning how her past romantic choices turned out, and hearing about her childhood, this poor dear was due for some good luck! Good luck in this case isn't a lady, but a man! Oh but this isn't any man.... this is Matt, and while I'm not fond of the name, I'll make an exception in this case because he is the total package.

He's kind, but not patronizing. He's protective, but not possessive. He's got a family that's there for him with the biggest hearts you've ever seen, but they're not afraid to tell him like it is, while still catching him if he falls. That's not something Fleur has always had, except with her bestie for life, so fitting the hole she saw in other people's lives was her default setting...but Matt won't let her settle there. He pushes her to find herself, while still supporting her as needed along the way. Fleur grows in leaps and bounds, and is far from the fragile woman from the spectacle in the hotel dining room when all is said and done. She may have lost her way, but she truly did HAVE this when all was said and done.

A delightful read with a potential couple to be you'll be rooting for the whole book through. It reminds us there are good things in life, and good people, if only we take a moment to really look around.

𝘔𝘠 𝘛𝘏𝘖𝘜𝘎𝘏𝘛𝘚...
I pre-ordered this book months ago because I knew after reading two of Morrey's previously published books, You Only Live Once (2022), and Just Say Yes (2022), that I was going to love this just as much. When Morrey's publisher reached out to me to request a review, I was ecstatic.

Morrey's writing always finds a way of squeezing emotions out of my heart. While reading You've Got This! I felt a sense of nervousness from Fleur's at the time boyfriend, Jasper. He was not just a jerk but he was scary in a manipulative and narcissistic way. I also felt hopelessness, sadness, and loneliness due to Fleur's overall situation. However, throughout the bulk of the story I experienced a great deal of heartwarming emotions. Comparative to a much-needed big and warm hug.

My favorite character is Fleur's new employer's son, Matt. He presses her into boosting her confidence and finding her voice. On top of him being insanely attractive, he brings the banter, and silliness into play. Watching their friendship gradually develop into love was a beautiful journey.

This book captured my interest from the first page and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next.

The story of Fleur and Matt, who meet when she is on holiday in Wales and unceremoniously gets dumped, loses her job and her home in one conversation with the unreasonable Jasper. A great read, emotional at times. I found it ended a bit abruptly and would have liked an epilogue.
