Amy Brenner is a medical student working her way through rotations on different specialties. She’s currently rotating through psychiatry, and tonight she is working the night shift at the infamous Ward D. Ward D is an inpatient psychiatric unit that is locked down 24/7. For the next 14 hours Amy will spend her time in the locked psychiatric unit. Having to spend one minute in Ward D is Amy’s worst nightmare, because Amy has some secrets of her own. She’s convinced even before her shift that something will go horribly wrong while she’s locked in the psychiatric ward, and as the night goes on and as she starts interacting with the patients, she’s sure that something is not right. Will they all make it out after their 13 hours are up? Are things as they seem? Or is Amy’s mind playing tricks on her?
Frieda does it again! Did we honestly think otherwise though? Ward D is the absolute *chefs kiss* of psychological thrillers! It had all the parts that make it that perfect read. I could not put it down, I got through it in just one day. I was absolutely fixated on figuring out what happened next. The storyline had me on edge, anxious, my heart racing and I was actively nervous. Then of course all the twists and turns that one minute you’re convinced you know how it’s gonna end, until you don’t. Then that final twist!! My jaw was on the floor. I started skim reading so fast because I was literally like oh my gosh WHAT?! I had to stop myself and go back.
Ward D definitely needs to go on your TBR list as your next read!!! You will not regret it.

Thanks to Netgalley for letting me review this! This book will be available on Amazon and KU on May 8th.
I have enjoyed all of Freida's books that I've read, and this one is no exception. It was very fast and I enjoyed the twists! I will admit that although the twists were good, they didn't necessarily blow me away. It was a great book and it was still ⭐⭐⭐⭐ for me, but it isn't my favorite by Freida. Still very enjoyable though and I'm glad I read it!

Once again, McFadden has released the Kraken! An absolutely divinely, devious thriller that you can't help but sink your teeth into like a sumptuous fruit! As always, a never let down once again by a true literary Queen who can do no wrong. What could be worse than being a med student having to spend a night shift at a hospital? How about a psychiatric unit on Ward D that's always locked. Care to enter?
Ugh! This is just every horror movie nightmare you crave, in book form! Absolutely delectable and yummy as she takes you on a plot filled with your worst nightmare in the most perfectly eerie location. And while the ending is sure to knock you for six, just wait until the true final twist! You'll be left reeling and questioning it all. A true pro at her work as always! Now excuse me while I find myself a nice slice of a brownie to curb my anxiety.
Thank you to NetGalley & Victory Editing Netgalley Co-Op for this ARC!

Thank you to Netgalley, Freida McFadden, and the publisher for an advance copy of Ward D in exchange for an honest review. Well folks, Freida does it again- what a read! I absolutely devoured this one and I couldnt put it down until I knew exactly what was happening behind the walls of Ward D. Per usual, Freida took us on a tour of Ward D that was full of twists, turns, and lots of "WHAT THE" moments! I really enjoyed our main character Amy and how we got to know her past so well over the course of her one night in Ward D. Amy was a great character but honestly, I loved so many of the characters we might on the ward. I dont want to give much more away but I will say the last twist was a big one that made me audibly gasp!! You need to get your hands on a copy of this one- it will be available on May 8th in paperback and im assuming on Kindle Unlimited too!!
Ward D by Freida McFadden is soooo good! Freida McFadden does it again. Ward D is a great addition to the psychological thriller genre. The characters are compelling, and you are never sure who to trust. The story was gripping, and the theme of trusting your instincts held throughout the story. The ending was quite satisfying, even though I thought it would end another way. The pacing held my interest and kept me reading well into the night. I could not put this book down. The author's writing style establishes the mood, and she creates great imagery.
I thought there might be a crazier ending, but this book was edge-of-your-seat good!!
I would recommend this book and this author. Check out her other books; you won't be disappointed.

This book is so good. The plot is what nightmares are made of, and it just gets better from there! I loved the shorter chapters and the twists that just kept coming until the last page.
I appreciated the ARC. Thrillers are the best, and Freida never lets you down with the twists.
Beautifully written and captivating with twists around every corner, Freida McFadden does it again! Amy is a medical student who gets sent to Ward D, a locked hospital facility for the mentally ill during her residency rotation. Amy is in for a crazy night with bizarre sights and sounds… but is she really much different than her patients? With her past coming back to haunt her and cliff hangers at the end of many chapters, you will be enticed to keep on reading! A true page turner, this book is top tier! As a medical professional myself, the accuracy of many diagnoses mentioned adds to the credibility of both McFadden and her work. Ward D had my jaw on the floor when the final twist was revealed. Pick up this book and you won’t regret it!
Wow, what a ride! "Ward D" by Freida McFadden is a breathtaking and dark psychological thriller that follows one night shift of a medical student in a locked psychiatric unit. Yes, it is as creepy as it sounds.
Amy Brenner is a third-year medical student who, along with another student is assigned to an overnight shift in a locked psychiatric ward, Ward D, as part of her studies. She isn't very enthusiastic about it, to say the least, and even dreads it, but has no choice in the matter. Her anxiety increases when she sees a couple of familiar faces in the unit. It doesn't help when she is told by some of the patients that a dangerous patient that was supposed to be in seclusion is on the loose and threatens to kill them all.
The tension keeps rising when strange things start happening in the ward, and the lack of internet connection prevents any outside contact. As the night goes on, the patients become more and more perturbed. it is obvious that something is not as it should be on that ward. Add to that flashbacks from her past that provide useful insight into Amy's fears, and you got one heck of a story.
This is my first book by the author but definitely not the last. I loved the story and couldn't stop reading it. It was well written, well plotted, and kept me interested throughout the book. I think it will make a great movie. The book is written in the third POV, from Amy's perspective, and jumps back and forth between the present day (the night in the ward) and the past (eight years previously). I liked the heroine but sometimes wanted to shake her and was afraid for her.
Nothing much happens until the middle of the book, but there is enough plot jumps to keep your head spinning. The build-up suspense is great, and the tense atmosphere jolts the reader and makes him doubt what's going in and who can be trusted. If you like your chill with things that go bump in the night, this is the book for you!
* Thank you NetGalley and (publisher) for the opportunity to read this arc. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC from one of my favorite authors. This was an interesting book with a big twist, as always expected from Freida McFadden. Amy is a medical student who is scheduled to spend the night shift on Ward D which is the locked psychiatric unit for the hospital She is nervous, and rightfully so, as she doesn't know what to expect. She meets many interesting patients and things are of course not what they seem. Amy's history intersects with today's events in a very surprising way. I would definitely recommend!
I was able to read an advanced copy of Ward D by Freida McFadden. Freida has recently become one of my favorite authors and always someone I recommend to others. I was very excited to read Ward D and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The first portion of the book did not have a whole lot going on. It was more about figuring out who the characters are and learning about past Amy and present day Amy. As usual, Freida gave us an ending that I never would have guessed. I rate this book as four stars and highly recommend!
Such a quick and creepy read. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the main character but I truly enjoyed the suspense and fast paced thrills in this book. Fans of Freida won’t be disappointed. Thank you netgalley for the opportunity to read this arc!
I am so grateful to Freida McFadden and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC of Ward D. Thank you!!!
I went into this book knowing that I would think I knew what was going on but that Freida McFadden would throw me for a loop and I was not disappointed!!!!
Throughout this book you're wondering what is real, who is crazy, and what in the world is going on?! The twists come at you hard and make you take a moment to process what you just read. I did not see this ending coming!!!! The ending was satisfying and left you with a little cliffhanger. Not surprisingly another 5 star read!!!
(I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.)
Freida does it again !! Wow ! I thought this was going to take a whole other direction than it did, so I thought I figured out what the big twist would be … and yeah , no. I was WAY off .. like always lol !!
This is another fast paced , unputdownable , heart racing , can’t trust anyone , thriller that you can easily binge in one sitting !!
I loved the setting of this was in a LOCKED psych ward , overnight, with no cell service! What could possibly go wrong!? 😅
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Freida for this ARC. I can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on this May 8!!! I loved it !!
I will have this review up on Instagram soon!
My girl Frieda did it again. “Ward D” gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me 🤩
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of “Ward D” - thank you Frieda and NetGalley! All thoughts below are my own.
This novel was categorized as a medical thriller. It starts out following Amy Brenner who is a medical student and has to do a shift in the psych ward. She is absolutely dreading it and would rather do anything than complete this shift, but she has no choice.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat, desperate to know what happens next. Certainly nothing bad can actually happen, right? There are a lot of staff members and the patients are all there to get better…… or are they?
This books is set to be released May 8th and trust me, you’re going to want to get it right away and you won’t be able to put it down.
5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 for Ward D

DO NOT MISS THIS "CRAZY" RIDE
Amy is a med student thay has to complete a mandatory rotatation overnight on the psychiatric floor, Ward D. Amy is dreading the shift for reasons that no one can know, she never wants to set foot in Ward D. As the night goes on something doesn't seem right, people start to go missing and something is off with the staff and patients. Where are the people going? Who can Amy trust? Will Amy survive the night and live to walk back out of Ward D?
This book gripped me from the beginning! As someone with an advanced degree in Psychology, I found the descriptions and mannerisms of the patients to be very well done! The book moved along at a steady pace and gets faster the closer you get to the end. I did figure out a few of the twists, but one of the main ones was a surprise and it was great! You do not want to miss out on this upcoming release!
Freida McFadden has done it again! She delivers a quick moving, twist filled, chill inducing book that will keep you guessing from start to finish! Sit down with Ward D and try not to go crazy! Releasing May 8, 2023.
Frieda did it again! I was blown away by this book. There were several times I thought I had figured out how the book would end but I was mistaken.
Ward D is a pretty quick read (I honestly couldn't put out down!). I loved the characters in this book. I could picture them in my mind which, for me, made this more enjoyable. Loved it!!!
Thank you to the author for giving me access to this arc.
This was an enjoyable and quick read, I don’t know if it’s because I have read all of Freida’s books or because this was a little bit more formulaic but I guessed the twist within the first 3rd of the book which has never happened before, usually I get caught out by at least one of the twists.
Still an enjoyable read.
I’ve read many of Freida McFadden’s books so far and I believe this is my favorite. It keeps you guessing and again I never saw the twist coming. As a mom of a six year old and paraprofessional in an elementary school I have very little time to myself to read, yet read this in about 24 hours. 100% recommend this book!
I haven't felt like reading much lately but I figured Freida could change that. She did NOT disappoint. I was sucked in from the first chapter and stayed up way past my bedtime because I could not put this down! There were twists all the way to the epilogue and I didn't anticipate any of them. Very good book!
Thank you to NetGalley, Freida McFadden and publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What can I say about Ward D that would even scratch the surface of how spine tingling it is? This book is a typical Freida thrill fest. Amy and Jade will grab you and take you on the ride of your life! A word of warning, you are not going to want to put it down, once you start reading !!!
