Frieda does it again! Another fantastic book!! This one was so fun and so unique. I loved how the book spanned 24 hours inside a mental/psych ward at a hospital. The writing, the characters, and the setting were all written so well. The plot was also very unique.

I had no idea where the ending was going with this book. I was thrilled that I couldn’t guess the ending, and in typical Freida fashion, Ward D ended with a crazy twist! A good twist. Highly recommend this book to others.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I absolutely love Freida McFadden’s books! Every one I’ve read has been a great read.

Ward D follows Amy, a medical student, who has to spend a night rotation on an inpatient psych unit. She’s scared and when people start disappearing she starts investigating.

While this book did not have a big twist like most of Freida McFadden’s books, it was still a good read. Her books always have short chapters and are hard to put down. This book had a good story with good use of the alternating time line. I did feel like there was just something missing. I’m used to Freida’s books having a big twist or surprise ending. This one didn’t have anything surprising. I missed that aspect. Still a good book.

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for the advance reader copy. I’m leaving my honest review voluntarily. 4⭐️. Publication date May 8, 2023.

Another absolutely amazing jaw dropping thriller from Freida McFadden!

Plot summary - Amy Brennan is a medical student who is spending the night on a psychiatric unit - Ward D, for the first time. This is just one overnight shift, so why does she feel a sinking feeling in her stomach before it even begins? As some familiar people from her past show up throughout her rotation, things start to unravel. Can she make it through those 13 hours without any glitches?

Ward D has you hooked from the beginning. The build up has you wanting to know why Amy is scared to begin working her over night shift on Ward D right from the very beginning.

The book flashes back and forth between present time and eight years ago to a story between Amy and her high school best friend Jade. You also learn about Amy's past relationship and her own fear of mental illness, contributing to her uneasiness during her rotation on Ward D.

I was pretty sure I had this one figured out, I literally had my own story plotted in my head, but of course I should have known better than to guess a Freida twist!! At one point my jaw pretty much hit the floor!

This is a must read. 🙌
Kindle unlimited is out on May 8th. I'm pretty sure I'll also purchase my own copy

Wow. Freida has done it again.
Amy is a medical student that has to spend a night in a psychiatric ward as part of her rotation, and chaos ensues. The chapters go between the present and 8 years prior In order to give you a little more back story about the relationship between Any and one of the other characters.
In pure Frieda fashion, there are so many rwists that you never see coming. You think you have it figured out, only to find out you're way off base. Short chapters that keep you interested and make you think "I have time for one more chapter" until, before you know it, you're through half the book and you're negotiating with yourself on how much sleep you really need to function properly. Every chapter ends with you wanting more!
This psychological thriller does not disappoint. Absolutely recommend!

As a longtime reader of Freida’s books I go into them trying to figure out what the big twist is. About halfway through I thought I had it figured out but there’s no way I could have seen that ending coming. I devoured this book in 4 hours because I couldn’t stop reading. It was excellent and exceeded my (already high) expectations.

Ward D is written from the POV of the MC, Amy. It jumps back 8 years ago when she was in high school vs now as a med student. Amy has some tough life choices to make then and now. Another great read by Freida McFadden as always! Thank you to Freida, Net Galley, & the publisher for the opportuntiy to read this ARC. Ward D was a great read that had me hooked from the start!

Such an amazing book! Great job, FM! I’m totally invested in Amy and her life now! Also blown away by the events that took place! I always try to guess the twists with a FM book and never can which makes them amazing! Would recommend to any and everyone I know!

As a graduating student nurse, I'm really glad because you accepted my request to have an advance reader copy. I really liked the story, the thoughts of mine contemplating if I should believe Amy due to my observations in the first chapters that she has a mental problem/s 'coz she keeps seeing things that other don't see. I liked the plot-twist, it's a mind-blowing! Altho I didn't expect the death of Cameron, I thought he was just restrained there in seclusion area but alive! I didn't see it coming tho, overall I like the storyline but I felt the ending was fast paced. THANK YOU!

Thank you so much Freida and Netgalley!! I love me some Freida (as you can see from my profile) and this book did not disappoint! I loved this book and wasn't able to put it down. Very twisty. As usual, I really enjoyed the medical part of the plot. I also love that it didn't have multiple POVs. That gets old and this book was super easy to follow. I don't want to say more and give anything away but I definately recommend it!

I haven't read all of McFadden's books but I am so close and I must say, there isn't another author who makes me as excited for a new release the way McFadden's new pubs do.

Ward D should have been a predictable book but it wasn't. I read so many thrillers and the endings are usually predictable or fall flat. Not this one. I loved the atmosphere, the tension, the buildup, the past/present set up. I loved it all. I truly felt anxious while reading this as I was placing myself in the main character's shoes. Have you ever had a bad gut feeling but talked yourself into thinking you were exaggerating? Don't ever do that or you'll end up like Ward D's medical student, Amy.

If you haven't read any Frieda McFadden books, this is a great place to start. Enjoy!

I was given Ward D by Freida McFadden to read and post an honest review from NetGalley. Once again Ms. McFadden never disappoints. Amy is in medical school and on her rotation list is an assignment to spend a night on Ward D which is the psychiatric unit. She tells her roommate Gabby she is very scared for this night. Of course she doesn't tell Gabby the reasons why. Gabby tells her she has spent nights on rotation in Ward D and its not as bad as Amy is thinking. Amy tells herself she will do her one night, and be done and move on. While reading this book you will truly feel like you are in the psychiatric Ward D yourself. Ms McFadden makes everything seem so real. The patients there seem to be truly insane. Amy doesn't know who to trust. The story takes place in the present and 8 years prior in Amy's life. It leads up to the events that happen to Amy on her night at Ward D. This story has so many twists and turns that as soon as you think you have it figured out something else happens to make you wonder what is going on. Ms. McFadden is known for having shocking twists in her books, and this one is no exception. Everytime I read a Freida book, it soon becomes a favorite. If you want to read a book that will leave you guessing until the end, make sure you read Ward D. It's another 5 star read for me.

How does Frieda manage to constantly come out with shocking, twisty thrillers that are even better than the last? I have no idea, but she did it again. And Ward D is officially my new favorite Frieda book. It had me feeling claustrophobic, creeped out, and side eyeing every single character 🤣 Just do yourself a favor and preorder now.

I feel like this one tried so hard and fell so flat. Half baked characters, yet over baked and shallow storylines lines in past and present day.
There was a noticeable heavy attention to medical intricacies in terms of rattling off various definitions, but that’s where the logistics ended.

There were many obvious red herrings, a quick and lack luster wrap up, and a very naive main character with a constant, grating inner monologue. Somehow smart enough to make it into medical school, yet made choices the entire book, and took the reader for long winded thought processes, that were just nonsensical.
And the jelly scene…
Overall, not the usual quality I’ve come to know and love from Freida, through to the epilogue

Amy is about to spend her first overnight shift in Ward D, the unit her best friend, Jade, was in years ago while they were in high school. Terrified she might come across her again, Amy is dreading this overnight shift, and when her ex Cameron appears out of the blue, she knows this is going to be the longest night ever. Then she gets more bad news from Dr. Beck, the attending on call today; they are holding a dangerous person in Seclusion One. As the night goes on, strange things start to happen. Will Amy survive the night shift?

Frieda does it again! I was blown away by this twisty story! Amy can hardly trust herself, so it was easy to see how she couldn’t trust anyone else either. I loved seeing flashbacks to her and Jade’s past which helped us figure out why Jade was even in the hospital. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what Amy would come across next. I was really shocked by the overall ending, and I really loved the final twist in the epilogue!

This book was absolutely FANTASTIC. There were certain points I thought I had guessed what was going to happen next, and in true Freida fashion there was something else up her sleeve that took the novel a totally different route that was 10x better than what I was thinking. Being in the social work field, this book kept me on the edge of my seat. Two things I love most in a book mental health & thrill. I looked forward to reading this every free chance I got. Honestly might read for a second time, such a great novel.

What a ride! Frieda does it again! A psychological thriller that will keep you turning the pages late into the night. A medical student is assigned the night shift on a psyche unit, but what is going on with the patient in seclusion, and why are all the other patients saying he's going to kill them all. TONIGHT. An unexpected patient brings the Mc history back to current as she tries to figure out who is sane and if she's currently losing it herself. The story does do some time jumping backward to set up some of the story, but not in an annoying way. This was a great book! I highly recommend to thriller readers.

Finished this awesome book last night. Thanks to NetGalley and FreidaMcFadden for allowing me the opportunity to read this book before it’s released to the public next month. Since it has not been released, I want to stay away from too much information. Freida McFadden is known for her many layers of thrills and chills. Everytime I think that’s it, that’s the last shock, nope! Here comes another one. Ward D did not disappoint and it is my favorite of her books so far. I have not read all of her books yet, thankfully. I like to read other books between hers so they last longer. Plus, it gives her time to write and publish more so I can keep adding her books to my list!

If you have not read any Freida McFadden books, do yourself a favor and pick one up! Her books are on KU as well!

5 ⭐️ read as usual!!

Off to choose my next book! Happy reading, y’all! 📚❤️📚

Freida gives us another good one. I felt like this was a unique story. The whole book was one night on the ward. A lot happens in one night. I liked that so many people weren’t who they claimed to bed. Also loved the happily ever after. Even if Amy has some dark thoughts.
