First of all I want to say thank you to NetGalley and Feida McFradden for letting me read this book early - Ward D is out on May 8, 2023 -
Freida McFadden's writing is so addictive that you just want to keep reading more, I have read 8 books from her so far and they are all easy to read, less characters in the beginning and there are always things you don't expect and then you think you are prepared for the next book but guess what? YOU ARE NOT

"I know at that moment, my life will never, ever be the same." - A quote from Ward D by @freidamcfadden
You follow Amy Brenner in this book she is spending the night on a locked psychiatric ward. That was her worst nightmare and yet she still did it. She didn't have to spend the night there alone, she was together with another medical student, she sees people from her past but is she happy about seeing them? In the night she gets to know the patients a little bit more, when it is getting later in the night she begins to get more scared and things started to happen.
"The patients locked in this until are human beings just like everyone else. A mental health diagnosis is not a death sentence. All the patients in this until are just trying to get better."
I highlighted that part because it is true and a lot of people forget that, it is good that it was said again.
I chose to give it 5 stars because again it is a masterpiece like all her books I've read so far from Freida McFadden. Her writing is just amazing, it feels like watching a movie, just sit back, enjoy and before you know it is hours later. And the plotwists in this book wow, mind-blowing! Did I figure out some of them before they happened yes but maybe that is my Freida McFadden experience.
For everyone that loves hospital series and books like me or is just a thriller/mystery then this book is definitely a must read!!
This book is out on May 8 2023, Pre-order or order it, you won't regret it, It is all worth it if you ask me! #freidamcfadden #WardD #Netgalley
Freida does it again! I read this book in one evening. Twists and turns and again I never guessed the ending. I don't know how she does it. I normally can't sit still for 2 min but her books I can read in a sitting. This one is one of the best she's wrote. Super easy fast read. You can picture yourself as the main character. I love that!!! ❤️
Thank you to NetGalley and Freida for a chance to read this advanced copy! Freida does it again! What an amazing thriller! A medical student dreads her shift she has to do on the psychiatric wing. It’s a long night, lots of action and lots of twists and turns! I will forever be a Freida McFadden Superfan!!!
Since October 2022 I have read all of McFadden's psychological thrillers and each time I think I know what lies ahead, I don't! Each book is always a wild, twisty ride and that ride continues in McFadden's latest Ward D.
Medical student Amy Brenner is spending the night on a locked psychiatric ward. She has been dreading her evening working on Ward D, the hospital’s inpatient mental health unit. There are very specific reasons why she never wanted to do this required overnight rotation. Reasons nobody can ever find out.
Those reasons are fleshed out in looks back at Amy's past. The back story was interesting by itself, but combined with present day events? So good! I don't know how McFadden does it, but Ward D is intense throughout. I consistently had the feeling of being on the edge of my seat waiting for the next shock! The shocks were delivered constantly throughout, even at the very end. McFadden writes great end of chapter hooks. You tell yourself you'll read just one more chapter, but that one chapter turns into two or three.
Carve out some time for Ward D because it is going to be hard to put down. Forget about everything else for a bit and dive in ... the ride will be well worth your time.
My thanks to Freida McFadden and the Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for allowing me to read and review an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
WOW!! I had to take a day to process before typing this review. As I read and pictured myself in Ward D I physically felt my anxiety and BP rising. The twists and turns were absolutely perfect and as usual, I did not indeed have any idea where this story was headed. Thank you so much Freida and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this creepy tale.
Freida Mcfadden has done it again.
This book was so good. Twists and turns I didn't see coming at all. I thought I had figured it out a couple of times, only to be thrown in a completely different direction. Nobody writes phychological thrillers like Freida Mcfadden, she is the queen for sure. I would give this book a higher rating than five stars if it was possible. This was by far the best book I have read all year, I highly recommend it for anyone brave enough to spend a night on Ward D.
First of all thank you for the opportunity to read this one! I have read all of Freida’s psychological thrillers and this one just hit the top of my list when it comes to favorites. I couldn’t put it down! Once again it’s full of suspense , twists, and mystery.
I really did think I had the twist figured out, but then in true Freida fashion she comes in with something I wasn’t expecting at all. This one tugged at my heartstrings a little too. I really loved the characters. It was another easy read. This one switches between 8 years ago and present day in order to show you how the main character got to where she is and I really liked that about it. Add this one to your TBR pile and read as soon as it releases. You wont be disappointed.
I was so lucky to have received this ARC. I am from Australia so got muddled with the times to check NetGalley so honestly I was checking it constantly not wanting to sleep until I was able to see it pop up.
I was honestly ready to offer up my first born to receive this book, then the approved email came in! Honestly wanted to cry 😢
What can I say, but wow!?!
This book had it all, twists and turns that I NEVER see coming!
I feel like I have it figured out then bam I nearly get whiplash from the twist the story just took!
Nothing is ever as it seems in a Freida book and that is why I love her writing so much.
This book had so much that I love in it, being a thriller, lies, deceit, mystery, medical theme and creepy location.
Being a Nurse I loved this book, I feel like the happenings in this ward is just another day at work and it made me laugh, especially imagining myself in this situation.
Nothing is as it seems in this story and I loved it so much, this is probably my favourite book so far and I’ve read them all 🙂
Thankyou so much again for this ARC, I appreciate it so much.
I recommend this book to everyone who wants a awesome thriller from an awesome author.
I would give it 100/5 if I could but it is a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me.
Freida 👏🏻 has 👏🏻 done 👏🏻 it 👏🏻 again
Can we start off by just saying how I literally gasped when I saw I got an early copy of this one? An actual gasp. Of course I read it in one sitting- as I do most of her books.
The story POV is told by a medical student named Amy, and how she is called to spend her overnight rotation on a locked psych ward. She is truly dreading spending the evening here, but not for reasons you might originally think. As the night goes on, unexplained things happen, people go missing and her paranoia is setting in. Amy doesn’t know who she can trust. Can she even trust herself?
I loved all the characters in this book (even had a soft spot for a few). Every chapter left me on edge and I truly didn’t know who to trust either. I couldn’t go to bed - or let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding - until I read the entire story. As always, a huge twist at the end you didn’t see coming.
5/5 for me and patiently awaiting Freidas next masterpiece.
Another amazing read by Freida McFadden!
I went into this book super confident. I was sure I had it figured out. As usual, I was 100% wrong.
This book kept me interested from beginning to end. The characters and development in the story were amazing. I loved catching a glimpse of each case and then wondering how their story would fit in.
The aspect of being in a psych ward was intriguing from the very beginning. It was even better seeing it from the eyes of Amy who was assigned the night shift. Be ready to be on the edge of your seat as you uncover the mystery layer by layer.
Another great aspect was going between the past and present day. It heightened the overall mystery.
This is a must read.

Sipping thoughts: TWISTED!!!!! And OH, SO good!!! And guess what??!! I figured out the twist. YEP! That is so hard in a Freida book. But I did right from the beginning. I did not waver like I typically do and ended up being right. And even with that, this book did not let me down. I knew what was going to happen, but I could not wait to get around every corner (literally) and have it be revealed. Just as I always say about McFadden’s books, this must be made into a movie. It was so creepy and had me scared to read it at night that I can’t even imagine what it would look like on the big screen. If you are looking for a twisty, anxiety inducing, freaky, creepy, edge of your seat thriller-LOOK NO FURTHER.
Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley, @fmcfaddenauthor and @VictoryEditing for an advanced copy of @WardD.

Ward D: review contains spoilers at end.
You would have to be crazy not to want to read Frieda McFaddens new book “Ward D”!
Amy a student working her way through medical school finds her self working the night shift in a psychiatric ward. Ward D.
A handsome doctor, an ex boyfriend now co-worker, a bi-polar patient who was once your best friend are some of our main characters. This situation alone is enough to make anyone feel a bit awkward or uncomfortable. Throw in someone people who are schizophrenic, along with others who are actually dangerous in seclusion, (or are they?) you’d start to wonder if you’d be able to survive the night… who can you trust? Who would turn on you? And after being awake all night, can you even trust yourself?
This plot will keep you guessing till the end! This is by far the closest I have ever come to guessing one of the endings of Frieda’s books. I had JUST enough right to feel proud before she swiped the rug out from underneath me. As she does with every book when you look back in hindsight you should be able to figure it out. But she always hides the answers to the mystery so strategically and differently every book she’s always one step ahead!
For a book that takes place in roughly a 13 hour timeframe(minus some flash backs) there was an enormous depth written in, as well as character development . I guess that happens when your life is threatened though. (that’s not a spoiler it’s a thriller what thriller doesn’t have a life threatening scene)
Every character was written in a way we had just enough information. Supporting rolls weren’t overwhelming with meaningless information. Important rolls weren’t lacking anything we should know. This can be a hard balance but this book nailed it.
Overall this book is extremely well written. It address the importance of patient protection, care, and treatment like HUMANS! I personally know people who have been in psychiatric wards, and while some facilities are lovely, some have people fearing for their lives because everyone is lumped together no matter what your mental struggle is. You may be harmless but they may seat you beside someone who is definitely not. I feel like this book highlights this in a way only most patients or workers would understand. While the events that actually happen in this book would be far fetched in achieving, the fact is, it’s very likely someone could attempt it.
This book officially comes out may 8th, 2023
SPOILERS:
I asked Frieda 2 questions about the book before I wrote my review and thought you’d all like to know as well!
Please read the book before you read this portion!
Q: was will’s character or parts of the book inspired by inspired by either the Rosenhan experiment or Nellie Bly or both?
A:”It wasn’t inspired by any experiments, it was actually inspired by my real life experience during medical school. I was in Amy’s shoes. Just my usual rotations through psych.”
Q: why did Cameron have to die? Was there a logistical reason or were you just done with the character?
A: As for Cameron, I don’t know… it’s a thriller and some people need to die lol
So there you have it.
I hope you all enjoy ward D as much as I did!

I was fortunate to get an Advanced readers copy of Freida McFadden’s new book being released on May 8th on Amazon. Boy did she not disappoint. Ward D is now my favorite Freida book!
Amy Brenner is a Med student working an evening rotation on a psychiatric unit called Ward D. She is not looking forward to this rotation for reasons only she knows. As the time ticks by things go from bad to worse to nightmarish as people begin to vanish.
This book left me speechless. Frieda does an excellent job at keeping the reader hooked from one page to the next. And in true Freida fashion the ending was completely unexpected. Thank you Freida for sharing your talent with your readers!

If you have been keeping up on my reviews, then you know Freida McFadden is my favorite author when it comes to thrillers! Her books are filled with twists and turns, and often times I never know how the story is going to end until the last few pages. I am typically left with my mouth hanging open as I read the last page. Last week I was lucky enough to be approved for an ARC copy of Freida's newest book, Ward D, available on Amazon starting May 8, 2023. I would like to thank Freida McFadden and NetGalley for this opportunity to review this stellar book! The story all takes place within a twelve-hour time period which I thought was really neat. Certain chapters did go back into the main character's past which helped to break up and explain what was going on in the present. I am a total sucker for a book that takes place in a psychiatric hospital. I find this setting totally fascinating, so I knew this book was going to grab me right away!
Summary
Amy Brenner is a medical student tasked with a twelve-hour shift on Ward D, the hospital's in-patient psychiatric unit. Something in Amy's past is haunting her and the thought of spending an entire night locked in Ward D has her terrified. Nevertheless, she shows up for her shift prepared for the worst. Her situation is made even more dire by the fact that she has to spend the entire night with her fellow classmate and recent ex-boyfriend, Cam. Little does everyone know that Amy has been to Ward D before and she thought she would never have to set foot there again. Her best friend, Jade, was a patient of Ward D when Amy was a teenager. Amy hasn't spoken to Jade in years, but surely there is no way Jade would be back in Ward D again, right? Locked in and terrified, Amy is determined to get through this shift as quickly as possible, but the patients of Ward D have other plans........
What I Liked/Didn't Like
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!! I plowed through every page in just a few days and loved every second of it. The characters are interesting and had me clamoring to find out about their pasts. The patients of Ward D added an unsettling element to the story especially considering they are all locked up in a psychiatric ward for their own unique reasons. Amy spends a lot of time trying to get to know several of the patients and the reason for their admittance to Ward D which I thought was very interesting. I have not one complaint about this book. It grabbed me from the first page and didn't let me go until the last sentence. There is a reason Frieda McFadden is my favorite author in the thriller genre. She has the amazing talent to come up with the most unique story lines, and the craziest twists and turns!

I cannot recommend this book enough! If you are a fan of thrillers that take place in a unique setting, stories that keep you guessing, and characters where you are never sure who the "bad guy" is then you need to exit this review ASAP and order Ward D on Amazon! Once you discover Freida McFadden's books, they will make other thrillers pale in comparison. Some of her other novels that I've read are: The Housemaid, The Housemaid's Secret, Never Lie, and The Locked Door. I guess the only other thing I can say is: EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ FREIDA MCFADDEN'S BOOKS!!!!!!!!
I was very excited to receive this book and I am FOREVER grateful. OMG this book is definitely worth the read. First, it may be sensitive for those that are familiar with different mental health issues. Second, there was twists and turns that had me guessing and the edge of my seat. I got so excited that the author mentioned Ring Dings, (my favorite). The ending was WOW after it was all figured out but was it really. I truly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend this. Thank you for the opportunity to review it.
Wow! What can I say?! Freida has done it again with this one! I was sure it was figured out and then it just wasn’t! And the characters- They were very well thought out and kept me hooked working out who I could and couldn’t trust. I absolutely loved this one and highly recommend it. Another 5 star!
4.5/5 rounded up
Freida McFadden does it again. Ward D was a wild ride…just like all of her books.
I loved meeting the patients of the ward, along with the staff.
I’m always immediately drawn in when I’m reading one of her books. This was no different.
You could easily finish this in one sitting.
I just loved all the crazy that was contained in these pages.
In short…
This is a book you won’t want to miss. It’ll keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
I highly recommend this one.
Freida Freaking McFadden does it once again.
Let me preface this by saying, I am a romance reader. Always have been. That being said, I have read 3 McFadden books in 2 weeks. They pull me in and this one was no different.
HOOKED from the beginning. Didn't guess the twist. Also, let's just say Spider Dan is my favorite character of all time.
5 stars.

Thank you Freida McFadden and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I could not put this book down!! It immediately sucked me in! And every theory I had while reading it was quickly put to rest as I continued reading. One thing I love about Freida is that you never really know where the book is going to take you. It was a rollercoaster of a ride and it did not disappoint!!
Wowza! I finished this in a day, and it’s safe to say that Freida has done it again! I swear, every single book of hers that I read, I think I have it all figured out - but nope. The twists just keep coming. Even when you think the book is coming to a close, she will throw in one last “surprise”. Freida does thrillers like no one else. Fast paced, intriguing, thought provoking, and so detail oriented. I thoroughly enjoyed Ward D, and I really loved the creepy undertone - and I am not a fan of horror books. Fantastic! I will definitely be buying a physical copy of this book, as well as recommending it to my reading groups and sharing this review on Goodreads!
I sincerely want to thank Freida, the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book.
