I really appreciate this book! Since I’m living in India, this book helped me learn more about the culture here. I also love the illustrations since they are cute. Hope to read more from this author!
The book beautifully depicts how family impacts a child. The support, care, and warmth from the family and people you are surrounded with goes a long way. The festivals as a means to build up the confidence of a child was a great way. The love and care for a pet, and thus extending it for animals in general, the teamwork, the confidence building, the harmony, and secularism, overcoming stage fear, and finding out talent, this book shows that it is such a great way. Either directly or indirectly, sometimes on the face or sometimes subtly, this book reflects a great message and larger cause. The illustrations are stunning. A great Children's Book!
The Sparkles Within is a book about self-reflection, being yourself and sharing aspects of your culture. Tanvi's family is going to attend the neighbourhood party. This year there will be a talent show and many of her friends are going to participate. The idea is to showcase their culture, but Tanvi doesn't know what talents she has. We learn some of the things her friends will be doing, but those aren't her talents. Through self-reflection, she discovers what her talent is and she does a wonderful job at the show. This is a great story to share different cultures, but also to show children that we are all good at different things and that's wonderful. When I read this with my grandchildren, my grandson had a hard time deciding what his talent was. He is easily discouraged, but his sister was the one that gave him some examples. A great story to share with all children, but especially those who may be a bit more introverted and not realize that they do have their own talents.
This book is interesting. The idea is that there’s going to be a party and all the friends are invited to participate in a talent show, but they have to include their culture with their talent show. The book explains a little bit about of the difference between a racial culture and a home culture. And then uses a lot of words to describe actions that the main character plans on doing in her talent show. Very thankful for the glossary in the back. The illustrations are nice and overall, I think the story is too long. As a way to teach about different cultures I think it’s great. For story time, it’s a bit much.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy of an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this was such a cute and beautiful book. This is about a young girl Tanvi who wants to perform at the holiday cultural program. She is trying to find her special talent and sees all of her friends have these great talents and doesn't know what to do. Then her parents told her that everyone has something special and not everyone is the same. I think this book will be great in all children's libraries and school libraries.
This book was great, and I really appreciated the illustrations. I think learning about different cultures is so important for kids, and this book would be a great addition to any holiday book display.
I loved this book and it's message about culture, unique abilities, and confidence!
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
Tanvi is playing while her mother receives an invitation for the neighbourhood's Year End Party. This year there's a Talent Show as well. The Sparkles Within is the story of Tanvi finding out more about her culture and rituals while discovering her identity and talents during the process.
It is commendable how an important theme has been woven in a simple story which is easily understandable for children. The entire step by step process of Tanvi's self-discovery is brilliantly put together through words and complementing images. Such stories always leave an impact on children and provide a meaningful message to them.
The story was also about friendship, the importance of participation, healthy competition and overcoming stage fright which are yet again important themes to discuss during the growth years.
Towards the end, the book provides points of discussion and glossary which can bring out interesting thoughts from children's perspective.
I absolutely recommend reading and discussing this book with children.
Beautifully illustrated and so full of heart and culture. I loved how even within this story of a Punjabi family there is a diversity represented in the community that the main character creates. This book rejoices in the melting pot of culture that exists among the current generation of kids and it's lovely to see it reflected back to the kids in content they can read.

This is a charming tale about a young girl named Tanvi who discovers her unique talents with the help of her family and friends. The story teaches young children about the value of recognizing and nurturing their innate abilities, and the importance of self-confidence and pride in who they are.
As Tanvi learns that everyone has different talents that need to be nurtured in order to grow and shine, she realizes that finding the spark within is the key to success. This heartwarming tale is sure to inspire young readers to recognize and embrace their individuality.
I like the representation of culture and language, and think this book is a good addition. The conversation starters are a good tool, and I think the definitions can be helpful.
Overall, the story was a bit contrived, and I don't think I would be able to use this book in storytimes, or to appeal to a large audience.
In Sparkles within Tanvi and her family is invited to the annual holiday party where the theme of the year is “Showcase Culture Through Talent”. We see her trying to find her talent which can take form in anything.
”Everyone sees sparkles in different things. What I saw as failures, my friends liked.”
…I absolutely loved this quote! It was so inspiring to read about Tanvi getting ready for the festival and putting on a performance from her own heritage! I think young readers will love this book with its amazing message and beautiful illustrations! The book also has great conversation starters in the back, and also a festival guide and glossary to learn even more!
Happy reading!♥️

This is a book I’d buy for my unit called Embracing Heritage. It’s perfect for introducing all the facets of culture. This book touches on showing people the gifts they possess while examining parts of culture such as food, language, customs, and beliefs.
Love the cover and love the content more!
Thank you, author and the publisher, for the advance reading copy.
The book talks about culture and heritage, mainly based in a community where families of different cultures live together.
I find the representation quite well done. Hope this becomes a series and continue on with other cultures as well.
The illustrations are quite accurate which I really appreciate.
