The DC Book of Pride is a great reprenstation of LGBTQ+ community. WIth the exception of a few pages, majority of the artwork is bright and modern that really make the characters pop off the pages. Each character has a bio including information about themselves, first appearances, and so much more. This would make an amazing gift for any DC fan!
I really thought this was an informative book on the queer characters of DC! I did, however, think that the sexualities of more characters should have been addressed though.
This book was well put together and had amazing art work. It would be a great collection for any DC fan. There were a lot of characters that have been made in the last ~10 years so I’m glad there is more diversity then there was 20+ years ago.
Happy Pride everyone! This is gorgeous, fully-illustrated character glossary of DC's arsenal of queer characters over the years. A fun little reference text that would be gorgeous on a coffee table. :)
Thanks Netgalley and publisher for this advanced copy.
This book was a guide to DC's queer characters. I loves the layout of this book. However, it would be better if the character details mentioned their sexual orientation. I meant this was a guide to DC's queer characters. It should highlight that part
I enjoyed reading this book. The descriptions of each character are short but informative. I like that this book could serve as a introduction to readers looking to get into comics through queer characters or longtime readers who what to diversify their comics knowledge. Overall the book does exactly what it intends to.
This is a super detailed book filled with LGBT characters in the DC universe. It has facts about each hero/villain, which comics they appeared in, allies, likes and dislikes. I found it interesting that comics were regulated and censored for LGBT content; however, creators added several little clues and details for certain characters all the way back to the 1940s. A brilliant bit of subterfuge on the behalf of some of the artists and writers. I do love that with the censorship and regulations lifted, the comic world can become more and more diverse. I can't wait to see what new heroes emerge and for the next edition of this book to be more about main character vibes.
As the size queen I am, obviously wanted it to be longer and very thick. But I have to be content with what we are working with here. Great book. Can be used as a coffee table book. Interesting facts. I really like that it gives us information of the character, where we would have first seen them, and their likes/dislikes. I do wish we got to see some more shots of them using their powers (if they had one). Here is to hoping we get an updated one in the future with many more characters
The DC Book of Pride is a catalogue of many (not all) of the queer characters that appear in the DC comics.
Included are the more popularly acknowledged queer characters like Harley and Ivy as well as many characters most people have probably never heard of before. Each character gets a full-page illustration, a brief explanation of their backstory and where they fall under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, and a small profile. Included in their profile is the year of first appearance and it is comforting to see that not all of the characters were recent creations. Some of these characters' stories go back to the Golden Age of comics and their identities were allowed to go from implications to developed character traits as censorship lessened.
This is great for DC fans who want a collection celebrating all their favourite gay icons, but even better for people like me who want to consume more queer media but might not know which comics to start with. I've definitely gotten some ideas for which comic runs to check out next (once I finish the stack on my shelf, of course)!
I haven't really returned to DC Comics since college, with the exception of the Son of Kal-El Superman series, so I was surprised by how many characters they highlighted in this collection. I'd only read Stormwatch/The Authority before this, so if nothing else, this book gave me a lot more to add to my TBR and a refreshing look at the trajectory of DC Comics.
I do think there's a little inconsistency in what the entries tell us about the characters. Some have likes/dislikes, some don't have one or the other, some list what base they operate out of, etc etc. I think it also would have been nice to have little images of the character's partners that are in relationships, but I suppose with the flexible nature of comics, there may be continuity errors down the line.
Favorite Fact: Apollo disliking Midnighter stealing the covers, and Midnighter liking stealing the covers. I'm so fond of these two.
This is basically an encyclopedia on queer characters in DC, which is nice, but the same information could be found just browsing the wiki instead of spending $20. This is definitely more of a coffee table book than a multiple read book, personally I would’ve liked to see more of the characters being queer rather than a short bio saying that they are. Gorgeous art however, the artists did a fantastic job.
I've always been a big fan of DC so I really enjoyed this anthology of characters. It has a full page of art and information on each character including a quote from them, a biography, and what/when they released in the comics. I would have liked this a lot as a kid!

Really beautiful collection of some of the most reknown queer DC characters and some fairly unknown ones!
Enjoyable, great pacing, exciting settings kept me hooked. Fun novel that will be the perfect to lose yourself in. Thank you Net Galley for ARC in exchange for my honest opinion
If you love DC and the fact that they are brave enough to not only create one or two gay characters, you will love this book. It is basically an encyclopedia of every gay/queer character in the DC family.
Each is listed with where and when the debuted as well as if and who they are partnered with.
I did not know there were so many LGBTQ+ characters! Very impressed and grateful for the visibility of our people.
Thanks to @netgalley for the opportunity to read this eArc in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
I never knew that their were so many LGBTQIA+ characters in the DC universe and I'm so glad I got to learn about them! I loved that there were pictures for each character and reading the details about them! It was helpful that each character also had their first appearance as well.
I wish I could've read more about each character in just this book, but I can't wait to be able to actually read some of their stories!
I love that this exists! This book is exactly what you would expect it to be: a compendium of DC LGBTQIA+ characters throughout time. It is noted that not every queer character is in this book, but that it should be thought of as "an introduction, a celebration". Each character mentioned has their own page spread with their pronouns, a fun quote, a character summary and history, data file, and beautiful artwork. I love the layout of the pages, the formatting and the artwork is stunning. This book is a great resource for new and seasoned DC fans alike. It is very simple and surface level, offering a starting point on learning about the representation in the DC world. I love it for what it is. This would be a great coffee table book.
Very cool! An intro to a bunch of LGBTQ+ characters in DC Comics, with gorgeous character art and a bio. Considering this is only a curated selection of queer characters, and not ALL DC's queer characters, it was still very neat to see how many there are.
I really enjoy comic book content even though I'm not a big comic reader (I stick to shorter graphic novel series and standalones), I absolutely love to see the queer rep in media, so I had to jump on this as soon as I saw it. It's added some shorter titles I'm very much looking forward to checking out, such as Galaxy: the Prettiest Star.
A great addition to any comic fan's collection, and great information for fans or those who like queer media.
ARC from NetGalley.
BEAUTIFULLY illustrated book. So well done. I learned so much about superheroes that I didn’t even know existed in the universe. I really wish Marvel would come out with their version of this book as well. Highly recommend for anyone that wants to learn about DC’s inclusive heroes.

What is DC Book of Pride? Essentially, it's a gorgeously drawn character bio ("profiles") book. They give you brief glimpses into characters, their first debut, and help to identify their sexualities and genders.
I'll start off by saying, I really adore the art in this book, and think it's great that they have created this resource for new readers. It's a great mini introduction that could help fans or new comers find characters and superheroes they can relate to, but it offers very little insight into the character's lives and personalities (or superhero stories). Overall, I'd compare the book to an encyclopedia. It's fun to look at for reference (especially seeing all the bright colors and cute info boxes at the bottom of the pages), but offers very little substance. Ultimately, I rated this book three stars, because, while I think it's great in art and theory, I think it lacks in storytelling.
Additional Note: Not all of the characters in the DC Book of Pride were originally LGBTQIA+ coded.
- Graphic Novels have been making large strides lately to offer more relatable characters that are now LGBTQIA+ coded from the start (their debut/origin).
-Meanwhile, some of them changed over time based on the different writers/artists who worked on them.
