This is a great title to recommend to students who enjoyed The Inheritance Games. Well-plotted story, engaging characters, have already purchased for my library and have been recommending the title!

Despite this, THE ROSEWOOD HUNT has been well-received, with its mix of suspense, humor, and the portrayal of strong friendships resonating with many, particularly those who are fans of the YA mystery genre. It's interesting to note that while the treasure hunt elements might be predictable, the journey and character interactions provide a compelling read. Mackenzie Reed's debut has set a promising stage for her presence in young adult fiction, and it will be intriguing to see how her storytelling evolves in future works.

In many ways The Rosewood Hunt is a classic YA novel with wealthy family drama; a mysterious death of the matriarch, and a bunch of riddles that the characters need to solve in order to have their questions answered. However Mackenzie Reed does a wonderful job of allowing the characters honest feelings of loss and confusion also shape the plot. The Rosewood Hunt is an adventureful book and one that I think many high school students would enjoy reading.

For fans of The Inheritance Games! The pacing early on was a little off for me, as it was almost too fast to get to know some of the characters, but once things are going we get to know those left a little better. This was such a fun read, full of twists and turns, a fantastic cast of characters, and page turning ambition. Recommended for mystery fans!

Such a fun debut! It has been a while since I have really come back to YA and YA mysteries and this is just a fun book to do both! Can't wait to see what Mackenzie writes next.

Lily Rosewood's family life is quite complicated, but billions of dollars will do that to you. Oodles of wealth is a tricky thing to navigate for most people. I know it seems like it would make life grande, but ask any fictional character with an inheritance at stake, and they'll tell you that's far from the truth.

Lily dreams of one day running the family company, Rosewood, Inc. Her Gram, the current head of the company, has promised to teach Lily everything she'll need to know to successfully take over one day. When Gram dies suddenly though, Lily's life is turned upside down. Gram wasn't just the head of the company, she was also the formidable figurehead of their family. It was so unexpected. Lily can hardly believe it's true. Then Gram's Last Will and Testament is read, and Lily definitely can't believe that's true...

There's no mention of the vast family fortune; a purported quarter of a billion dollars. What? Like it's gone? The money is missing? How could that be?

As everyone is left scratching their heads, one last cryptic letter from Gram sends Lily, along with three other teens, on the treasure hunt of a lifetime. When news of Gram's missing fortune goes public though, outsiders join the hunt and they're not messing around. Soon the teens are dodging dangers left and right, as they try to be the first ones to discover the hiding place of the vast Rosewood fortune. This could change their lives, or end them. Who will win the Rosewood Hunt?

I'll admit, it did take me a little time to commit to this one. The set-up is rapid fire. You really have no time to get to know Gram, you just learn through Lily's musings that she was this clever lady, who enjoyed puzzles, invisible ink and things like treasure hunts. It sort of made me wish someone would have set her up with the elder Hawthorne from The Inheritance Games when they were both alive. It seems like they would've really hit it off, like plotting ways to send their basically disinherited loved ones on wild goose chases for cash...

About a quarter of the way in was when I really started to sit up and pay attention. Two other teens, Leo and Quinn, were also pulled into the hunt by Lily's Gram and I found the dynamic amongst the three teens very fun. Lily's best friend, Miles, also becomes part of the action and I enjoyed him as well. Lily's cousin, Daisy, on the other hand was a total jerk, which I didn't really understand. Eventually the contention in their relationship was explained, but something about it didn't feel genuine to me.

Either way, I did vibe with the cast of characters overall and the way they worked together was entertaining. They weren't really friends going into this, so it gave it a bit of an unlikely allies feel, which I enjoyed.

It gets pretty wild. Once the outsiders swarm into town hunting the treasure the danger level amps up considerably. There are break-ins, car chases, it's a lot. Lily definitely fears for her life, and I did too!

Through all of it, the teens start showing each other more of their true selves and they really start to bond. I think that was my favorite aspect of the whole story, the Found Family element that Reed ultimately creates. Lily feeling like she finally had friends, it filled my heart. Most of these characters, their families were pretty crappy, so having each other to rely on meant a lot to them.

The pace hits warp speed towards the end, as a ton of new information is revealed. I enjoyed the way it wrapped up. Overall, a satisfying inheritance story. The Rosewood Hunt was a game I won't soon forget. That's for sure. While it may not go down in history as one of my favorite YA books, it was still hella entertaining, and I would definitely be interested in reading more from Mackenzie Reed.

The Rosewood Hunt is a delightful YA mystery with a twisty treasure hunt, unexpected friends and family secrets.

I love a YA Mystery and treasure hunts and (the romance not withstanding) was a big fan of the Inheritance Games series. So when I learned that The Rosewood Hunt was pitched to include a treasure hunt, family secrets and it was perfect for fans of the Inheritance Games? Well, dear reader, I was intrigued. While it took me quite some time to finally get around to reading it, I ended up devouring The Rosewood Hunt in one day. I simply couldn’t stop!

Overall, I would say this is a fun book. The stakes simply aren’t that stressfully high. Yes there’s potentially millions of dollars at stake and eventually our main characters get chased by mysterious guys with guns, but the fun setting and character dynamics make this more of an adventure story than anything else. Which isn’t to say that it’s all fun and games. The Rosewood Hunt manages to weave in one of my favourite themes in stories: grief. Lily’s father died by suicide a year ago and she is firmly in the grasp of the tendrils of grief when a second death rocks her world. Suddenly, her gram, in many ways the center of her orbit, is dead too.

And while Lily quickly gets wrapped up in the thrill of the hunt, her grief and anger at the world and herself are ever-present companions in her story. When we meet Lily, she’s sympathetic but also fundamentally a rich girl who grew up with more than a smidge of entitlement. By the end of the book, she has grown and matured into someone who is much clearer on what they want and what the people around them need too. From a lonely grief-stricken girl dreaming of taking over the family business and feuding with her cousin, Lily turns into a self-assured young woman who cares deeply about her friends and using her resources in ways that benefit not just her own dreams, but those of the entire town.

Personally, I enjoyed seeing that development a lot because honestly, I didn’t expect a fun adventure mystery book to include quite this much character growth and nuance!

Any mystery needs a good cast of quirky characters, and The Rosewood Hunt delivers. I find unlikely teams of teenagers delightful to read about, they’re all so stubborn and unique in their budding identities and it always makes for a great dynamic. In The Rosewood Hunt, our crew couldn’t be more Breakfast Club, a jock, a math nerd, the princess and the mean lesbian. If that’s not a winning combination for a team of amateur sleuths hunting for a treasure, I don’t know what is! Oh, and did I mention this book involves a brief scene at a masquerade ball? Yeah, The Rosewood Hunt has it all!

The Rosewood Hunt promises a treasure hunt, and it does deliver! If you’re expecting some intricate scheme of riddles and clues, this isn’t the book for that. Instead, what unfolds is a small web of clues personal to each of the teens and locations in town, that reveal something about them and about the beloved Gram. It is a bespoke treasure hunt just for them, true to the grandma with a gleam in her eye concocting this plan. It even involves invisible ink! I wouldn’t quite call it “a fun romp”, but it’s pretty close to it.

Overall…
… The Rosewood Hunt was a delightful mystery and I absolutely devoured it in one sitting. The treasure hunt was fun, I liked all the characters and their growing dynamics and there were enough twists to keep me hooked. If you are looking for a fun book that still packs some depth, The Rosewood Hunt could be the perfect summer read for you this year! I feel like it begs to be read while on a beach or in a hammock.

This is a quick, fun and briefly entertaining read that I managed to get through in a few days. Whilst most of what happens is very predictable and you can guess what happens it is still a good read. There are a few turns that I wasn't expecting which is what you want as a reader, but most of it was very predictable.

The main characters were compelling and you do end up rooting for them, it would be nice to have the relationships developed and delved into a bit more, but that is just personal preference.

I would recommend this to any YA reader if they were after something fun and quick.

Admittedly, this one didn't grab me. While I love its comparison titles, I found the actual writing a bit clunky and grating—more so that tropes and events felt telegraphed and familiar, which took me out of the story some. Very open to reading more from this author a book or two down the line, however.

A little found family, a little mystery, a little competitive treasure hunting. Rosewood Hunt is perfect for readers who enjoy puzzles, mysteries, Knives Out and the Brothers Hawthorne. With an uncomplicated mystery, unexpected plot twists and a wealthy heiress behaving badly this will surely appeal to a broad variety of teens.

A fun, clue-solving adventure with Breakfast Club and Outerbanks vibes. Rosewood Hunt was an entertaining read. I’m a sucker for mysterious small town teen adventures. The beginning was a little hard for me to get into. The pacing felt like it was somewhat dragging at first but that could’ve been my personal pacing preference kicking in and not the book itself. Once the characters started working together, the pacing changed and I was invested. There were times the book made me want to cry and others laugh. Overall, I thought it was perfect for it’s target audience and would recommend to YA readers.

This is a great book to chase the high of "The Inheritance Games". I had a great time reading it, and it was a quick read. I also liked the characters and the found family aspect. Also, there were aspects of the story the reader could play along with, which helped with engagement!
