The Inheritance Games meets One of Us Is Lying in this high-stakes family fortune treasure hunt. The Rosewood Hunt is an incredible debut novel. I was engaged in the story from start to finish and loved learning about the Rosewood family history.
While The Rosewood Hunt has a similar premise to The Inheritance Games (TIG), it diverges in some pretty big ways. First, our POV is through the eyes of Lily Rosewood, whose Gram’s passing sets the books’ events in motion. Unlike Avery (from TIG) who has no reason to grieve the Hawthorne family’s patriarch, Lily deals with both grief and betrayal throughout the book. She not only lost her Gram, but a year before her dad passed away and her mom left her. She also feels betrayed when instead of inheriting the family business, she receives only a letter with a riddle. This confirms Lily’s fears of being deemed unworthy and greedy. Trusting in her Gram’s larger plan and believing in herself is a big part of Lily’s arc in this novel. There are also themes of found family and belonging - Leo, Quinn, and Caleb are all well defined characters and add much needed humor to the story.
The Rosewood Hunt deals with some heavy topics include suicide, passing of a loved one, family feuds, attempted kidnapping, and abandonment. I thought the author did a great job including them while keeping the overall tone of novel light and positive. This is a great story with many twists that kept me guessing and on the edge of the seat. I devoured this book in one sitting! I think teens and adults of all ages will love this thrilling treasure hunt full of family secrets. I highly recommend to all amateur sleuths, mystery lovers, and riddle solvers!
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Children’s Books/Harper Teen for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

As a big fan of the Inheritance Games, I was instantly interested based off of the synopsis and I was not disappointed. This was a quick read that I finished in one sitting. After Lily’s grandmother passes away, she and a group of teens in a similar situation, are on a hunt to figure out the mystery that was left behind. The whole group has one thing in common: they need money for college. Despite struggling with the grief of losing her grandmother so soon after losing her father, Lily leads the group against everyone trying to stop them.

The petals of the Rosewood Legacy are wilting, and it’s up to Lily Rose to find a way to get the flowers to bloom again. But before she gets the chance to formulate a plan, the unthinkable happens: her Gram suddenly dies, and what’s worse, leaves her with none of the Rosewood fortune. But she’s not the only one— neither her cousin or uncle have gained much of an inheritance themselves. Instead of comforting her, it only confirms Lily’s suspicions that she really deserves nothing, and maybe never did all along.
Until she realizes she’s been given a clue to a treasure hunt. Her Gram always liked to play games, and it seems not even death could stifle that passion. Determined to find her place in the Rosewood legacy, Lily sets off on the hunt with the help of some unlikely allies. But they only have a small amount of time to get the clues, and it seems they’re not the only ones looking for the lost Rosewood fortune..

This book totally blew me away! The lore, the hunt, the imagery, the town… just absolutely breathtaking on all accounts! It was a totally thrilling read that had me on the edge of my seat laughing and shaking the whole time. As far as teen mysteries revolving around a prestigious family with dark secrets go, this one is an absolute winner in every way! A definite must-read that you need on your TBR if it wasn’t there already!
Other things I loved:
- Gram & Lily
- the clues
- Jean Louis & Isabella
- what happened when Lily was left alone
- how the hunt played out
- everybody’s sass
- the museum, the factory, the manor
- the danger Lily faced
- Anything But Roses
- the reveal of family secrets
An incredible thank you to Netgalley and Mackenzie Reed for letting me read this amazing book!!

I was drawn in by the premise of a hunt for an inheritance, but unfortunately, this book wasn't a fit for me. There were a ton of characters, many who were one-note or underdeveloped, which made it hard to get into the plot. Additionally, the plot points were fast and back-to-back — but rather than making the story more compelling, it felt rushed and surface-level.

I received a free ARC of this bok through NetGalley; all opinions expressed here are my own.
This book was just not for me. From almost the beginning, minor details, as well as the characters and plot themselves started to drive me crazy. Things like the flower names and the ubiquitious roses felt very cliche and irritating; the portrayal of extravagant excess wealth was also annoying. I was not a fan of how selfish and out of touch with reality some of the characters were. It did seem like the main character, and the book, found a better sense of perspective as the story went along, but at that point I was so fed up that I had started skimming. I think the author outdid herself in her portrayal of self-centeredness at the outset of the story; she was so thorough with it that she turned me off from the book before she gave herself a chance to redeem her characters and plot.
Overall, this book felt like a chore to read. (Side note: bad language was also present to a large degree; I was not a fan of this element either.) If you want a better "search for an inheritance while learnng about ones' self" book, try 'The Westing Game.' That book is fun and compelling from the very beginning; 'The Rosewood Hunt' is definitely not.

The Rosewood Hunt by Mackenzie Reed is a thrilling YA novel that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. The story follows Lily Rosewood, a fashion-loving teen whose life is turned upside down when her beloved grandmother dies and leaves behind a missing fortune. Lily and three other teens receive letters from her grandmother that send them on a treasure hunt, but they soon realize they're not the only ones after the fortune.
Reed does an excellent job of building tension throughout the novel, making readers feel like they're on the treasure hunt alongside the characters. The characters themselves are well-developed and relatable, each with their own unique personality and motives for finding the treasure. The fashion and luxury coat business aspect of the story adds an interesting and unique element to the plot.
Overall, The Rosewood Hunt is a well-written and engaging novel that will appeal to fans of mystery and adventure stories. The ending leaves room for a potential sequel, which readers will surely be eager to get their hands on.

This was such an action filled book! I absolutely loved the characters and the journey they went on. The plot was creative, interesting, and exciting. I will be recommending this book to everyone I know.

This was a fun treasure hunt novel. I’d compare it to The Inheritance Games (found family + an insane amount of money on the line), but with small town drama and gossip. Poor Lily goes through it and I couldn’t help but root for her. The Rosewood Hunt could turn into a neat series!

The Rosewood Hunt has had a lot of hype on TikTok and Instagram due to the author's following. So, I admit...I was curious! I thought her marketing strategies were intriguing and I think teens will really connect with that. I really enjoyed reading this one. It is a quick read with easy-to-imagine descriptions of not only Lily and her family, but the town as well. I loved that Lily had a job, even though she could've just been the granddaughter of a rich lady. And I really enjoyed the treasure hunt. I think readers who like Jennifer Lynn Barnes and the tv show Outerbanks will really like this one!

Mackenzie Reed's THE ROSEWOOD HUNT is easily one of my favorite reads this year. While this story is about a girl searching for her inheritance, at its heart TRH is about finding who you are in the midst of grief and learning to lean on the people who care about you—even if being vulnerable is scary. This book has all of my favorite tropes: found family and slow burn romance. The plot is fast-paced and will leave you breathless, the dialogue is witty and full of banter, and the characters themselves are highly complex and well thought out. This is an incredible debut, and I look forward to reading more from Mackenzie in the future.

Thank you to Harper Collins Children's Books for sending me an arc of this in exchange for review.
This was absolutely fantastic. from start to finish you are brought in to this fast paced story with amazing friendships and a main character you can't help but want to wrap a blanket around her shoulders and tell her everything is going to be okay, I even found myself wanting to see the story from the side characters perspectives. thats how good Mackenzie Reed's writing is. I can't think of enough good things to say about the Rosewood Hunt other than that you should add it to your TBR.

There is nothing quite like reading THE ROSEWOOD HUNT for the first time. The adrenaline-packed action scenes. The laugh-out-loud jokes. The found family I would love to be adopted by. With a vibrant, larger-than-life cast of characters and a mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat, I loved every second of diving into the world of the Rosewoods. Mackenzie's immersive writing makes the pages fly by. I look forward to filling my shelves with her books for years to come.

"The Rosewood Hunt" was quick paced, fun and intriguing. I really enjoy a storyline with a suspenseful mystery and this one did not disappoint. I definitely recommend checking it out!
Thank you to Net Galley, HarperCollins Children's Books and Mackenzie Reed for an ARC of this book.

THE ROSEWOOD HUNT is such a fun, thrilling, and comforting read! It’s full of love and action, and I really enjoyed the unlikely found family of misfits. Highly recommend this one—Mackenzie Reed is an author to watch!
