Puppy Pals and Puppy Tales is a cute book that I read with my two daughters ages 11 and 7. The book is set up as monthly letters written from the perspective of the puppy, Liza. Each chapter is short enough that younger, early readers can read and understand. The illustrations are simple yet cute and help enhance the story. We all enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to others.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion.
Puppy Pals and Puppy Tales
Classic timeless, little stories in the form of letters from a dog named Liza, convey the childlike wonder in the discovery of the natural world and household activities found in her family’s lives. Each month finds a new adventure to be shared and cherished. The would be a charming bed-time storybook volume,
The focus on this individual family does not allow for much diversity. I believe that this family is intended to be an Everyfamily of sorts; representing all families to a certain extent.
One of our frequent patrons read this one day, and this is her review of the book:
It was adorable to see the dog’s point of view. Many people think of dogs as….well, a faithful pet, a loyal sidekick. It was funny how Liza just didn’t understand some things. Dogs have a much bigger and more eventful life that this book showed perfectly!
-Abby (age 8)
In this adorably illustrated book, Liza, the family pup, tells of her adventures with Sam and Bea. From a bat in the house, finding a turtle in the pool, to learning to do new things, Liza shares what she and her family do each month in a letter format. The story is simple but interesting and each letter is short enough to keep a younger child’s attention. I also like how each adventure could lead to the child learning something. An example of this would be the chapter about the bat. Liza is surprised to find out it sleeps hanging upside down! This is the second book of Liza’s adventures. I hope the author gives us book 3.
Thank you Netgalley Johnette DeRose and Patrizia Donaera for the opportunity to read The lovely book Puppy Pals and Puppy Tales.
This book was narrated in the format of letters from a family beloved Labrador Retriever Lucy. It was cleverly written and showed monthly experiences expressed in the perspective of Lucy the dog. I loved the concept of the book and the beautiful illustrations. It is a book children can really get into.
This book is available for purchase and would be a great addition to your book shelf
"Puppy Pals and Puppy Tales" is a sweet, heartwarming book told in a series of letters from a family dog, Liza, to a "friend" (the reader). Liza tells about her daily experiences with her family that includes two young children and two parents. Each chapter is a short letter that tells about different experiences that readers may relate to, for example carving pumpkins, being attached to a favorite toy, and preparing for back-to-school time. Liza the narrator poses questions throughout the book that encourage children and their families to discuss their own experiences. There are also small colorful illustrations interspersed throughout the book that will aid beginning readers in understanding the story. There is no overall plot to the entire book, and this is my only critique. I would recommend this for children ages 6-9 who like animals, especially dogs. It would also be a great bedtime story for families.
Puppy Pals and Puppy Tales by Johnette DeRose is a wonderful book for young readers. Telling the story through the eyes of a Labrador Retriever with letters was enjoyable to read. I found this book to be very educational and engaging with questions to ponder on and fun educational exercises. I highly recommend this book.
What a beautiful book, Liza is just the sweetest dog and her adventures are so fun!
I learnt a thing or two while reading this, it was great.
It was interesting seeing the children grow and Liza's part in all of it.
It truly showed that animals are part of the family.
Beautiful illustrations and a great length!
My children absolutely loved this story. It kept their attention and they even wanted to try to read it themselves.
So much fun! This was such a well rounded book. I loved the "letter"format. I loved how each month had a different story. This will be a fun book to read at bedtime. A month every night. I do wish there were more pictures because we love dogs!
Such a unique book filled with amazing information about dogs! Even as an adult it made me learn and think in new ways. Some of the pages were a little long for my kids to stick with it. But the illustrations were cute and helped my kids pay attention. This book is wonderful and is a joy to read! You can truly see how much love was put into the book.
This is a feel good book. Seriously. I found myself smiling long after finishing with that warm glow you get when something has really pleased you.
I also found myself glancing at my dog, wondering what stories she might tell. I mean, have you ever looked at your dog looking at you and wondered what it was thinking? Wonder no more. Johnette DeRose's storyteller, Liza the Lab, gives you the scoop.
Even better, it's not only fun but illustrated. Illustrator Patrizia Donaers gives life to Liza and her humans. Heck, she does an excellent job not just conveying the expressiveness of Liza and her family but even manages to give expression to a stray bat although, after thought, I decided the smile on one of the ducklings as it swam in the family bathtub was my favorite. The artwork is simple, with largely soft colors, and works well for everything from ducklings to a puppy learning to climb stairs, which is nicely shown to compare to a child learning to ride a bike, and so on. The stories are short, easily read separately or as a whole, and even manage to wiggle in some learning moments, such as the ducklings' webbed feet and that bats sleep upside-down.
Oh, wait. There's a paw on my knee. Could my Daisy dog be telling me she could write a book, too? Or, maybe she just wants another treat? In any case, thanks #NetGalley and #PuppyLizaLCC - IBPA for letting me enjoy Liza's year. "Puppy Pals and Puppy Tales" is a delight.
Omg! I want to read the other book too!
This book is so wholesome! Told in the format of letters from a dog. Saywha?! And it’s completely adorable!
The writing is so nice and heartfelt. Our Liza loves her human siblings and her human family.
This tells how important it is for us to have patience with our pets. Each letter has so much to say. Love it so much. Totally recommended! Love the illustrations too!
Thank you, Puppy Liza LLC, for the advance reading copy.
This book was cute. I thought that the stories were fun. It was a interesting way to write a story. I thought that parts of the story just didn't hold my attention as much as other books have. However, the stories were great otherwise. I also thought the illustrations could have been a little bit better. The stories were very personable though and I feel like most people can connect to a bunch of them.
I received an ARC copy for an honest review. All thoughts are my own!
