This all sounds very delicious and I'm sure that I put a stone on just reading the book. I'm not sure if this is what they sell in Dollywood as living in the UK I'm not very likely to be able to find out for myself. There are a few nods to making the food healthier (oven baking rather than deep frying) but generally I suppose you don't go to theme parks to eat healthily. I will try a few of the healthier recipes but really this is too American Theme park for my taste, very interesting reading though.
There’s lots of fair food kinds of recipes in this cookbook that tries to recreate the recipes at Dollywood. They don’t seem to be very authentic as the ingredients don’t always match up. For instance, Dollywood’s nutritional information about allergies says it’s popcorn contains soy while this recipe calls for ghee (which would be incredibly expensive for an amusement park to use) and yellow food coloring. Some of Dollywood’s recipes are online and they were still a little different from those in here. They capture the general idea of them all but tend to be very complicated. For instance, all the pizzas and fried bread products are made from scratch (which I can get behind but might be too much trouble for some). Even Dolly used purchased bread dough when she gave the recipe for her famous cinnamon bread, for instance, but here you do it all from scratch.
There are not very many photos, which was my biggest complaint. I really wanted to see what the dishes looked like. There is also no nutritional information. The recipes won’t work well for anyone with dietary restrictions like gluten free or vegetarian. Even the creamy vegetable soup had chicken broth. Ironically, Dolly herself probably wouldn’t eat most of this most of the time since she has said she eats low carb most of the time and almost everything here is breaded, fried and covered in sugar. There’s even powdered sugar in the chicken sandwich (which is authentic to how they make it).
Side note— at one point the author says fried catfish comes from when people from Africa “brought their culinary traditions to the United States” and the absolute tone deafness there in talking about enslaved people was a little jaw dropping. This has no bearing on the quality of the recipes but it left a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak.
All in all it’s a decent compilation of very unhealthy but probably tasty southern restaurant and fair food dishes. You can find the original recipes online straight from Dolly in many cases but this does some work for you.
I apologize profusely for sounding like such a crank (!) but I actually rated it higher than I personally felt about it. Some books just aren’t good fits. This was a one or two star book for me but I think many will enjoy it.
I read a temporary digital review copy of this book via NetGalley.
...am I about to make funnel cake?
So many recipes in this book sound amazing and very make-able. The way the recipes are written makes you feel confident you can successfully cook everything - even if its not something you've attempted before. I like the way the receipes are grouped as well. The flow of the book is great. It's a nice mix of whimsical and practical foods. Also I love the little tips at the end of certain recipes. (and, of course, there is a recipe for giant turkey legs)
Terrific Dollywood cookbook - includes the favorites like Grist Mill cinnamon bread and apple pie. This is an unofficial cookbook, but lots of cool details about the park and food favorites. Really appreciate the first two chapters, but particularly the 'Overview of Dollywood Food'. The cookbook is organized by type of food and it would be nice to have the recipes organized by the park restaurants (put together a whole meal from specific Dollywood restaurants). But anything related to Dolly is magic, so kudos for the book!
One of the best things about amusement parks is the fact that there are food stands everywhere, and a trip to a good theme park is a culinary adventure. Sometimes the food is so good, we’d like to duplicate it at home. Anyone who likes Dollywood, will agree that The Unofficial Dollywood Cookbook: From Frannie's Famous Fried Chicken Sandwiches to Grist Mill Cinnamon Bread, 100 Delicious Dollywood-Inspired Recipes! by Erin Brown is a great book to pick up in order to duplicate those wonderful southern foods at home.
The fun recipes contained in this cookbook will appeal to both children and adults. Those who are lucky enough to have gone to this fun amusement park will want to recreate their memories of that fun time; others, who haven’t had the opportunity to visit, will want to try the foods and will definitely be inspired to visit soon.
The recipes are written in the traditional manner – a list of ingredients followed by succinct instructions, which makes them easy-to-follow and insures that the results will be picture perfect and delicious.
The only drawback to this cookbook is that there aren’t enough pictures of the dishes. While there are beautiful, professional photographs of many of the dishes, it would be nice to see a photo of all of them to help decide which dish to prepare .
All told, this is a fun cookbook, full of dishes that almost everyone will want to sample. Fun! Fun! Fun!
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
I received a free copy of, The Unofficial Dollywood Cookbook, by Erin Browne, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I have been to Dollywood, but it was along time ago, I think I need to go back to taste test items from this cookbook. This book made me so hungry, I cant wait to make some of these delicious recipes, like Maple popcorn chicken, beaver tails, and so much more.

I have never been to Dollywood but I love the food that you get at theme parks and county fairs: it is not always good for you but it is such a treat. Now you can make it at home and save the price of admission...or a trip to Tennessee. The recipes are well written and this is own-home cooking at its best, and I can see recommending it far and wide to people in search of affordable cooking at its best. (There are a lot of yeasted breads in here if that is your jam...it is not for me. I had so wanted to make that Cinnamon Bread!)
Yummmmmm
Hello, happy Friday! I'm here to spill a secret about my husband - His dream in life is to go to Dollywood. And no, I'm not kidding. 🤣 We've been married 12 years and every year we say we'll go and then life happens. So, when I saw this on @netgalley I scooped it up so I could suprise him with some treats!
This was a really neat cookbook and I will definitely be needing to get a physical copy. He was so excited about all the Dollywood information and stories included. He loved the map and how each recipe section tells you where it's from in the park!
I tried 5 different recipes and loved them ALL. The fried cheese curds? 🤌🤌🤌
If you're wanting some good old fashioned comfort food, this is the cookbook for you.
Sadly, DNF-ing this one. I just got accepted for this one 4 days ago... and apparently the book will archive just 11 days after that. I tried reading the book and it is a ton of fun, but the speedy impending deadline? It just makes me stress and feel like reading the book is a chore and not something fun.
I was really excited about this book, I have heard so many great tales about Dollywood, but I live in the Netherlands so there is no chance I will ever go. So seeing a fun book about Dollywood and even with recipes? Sign me up! Despite it feeling like a chore thanks to the way too fast archive date, it was enjoyable. I liked reading about the park, I loved the food, the recipes were fun (BUT seriously use metric and other weighing option as we don't use cups here like that in my country), and I was definitely hungry. I love the photographs. I am not going to try out the recipes as I would have to do A LOT of converting and I know that doesn't always end well (I mean 136 gram is 1 cup??? and it also depends on what food item??). But I am going to see if I can find some online recipes that are using kg and gr and C and such.
I would still recommend this book and if I ever find it again I will definitely pick it up.
I’ve never been to Dollywood- but after this book it’ll be on my bucket list!
Y’all know those good funnel cakes at the fair that costs about $10? Well- this book has an amazing fruity pebble one that will change the game forever.
Drinks, sweets. Snacks. Savory. It’s all here- and all adaptable, and user friendly with beautiful photos!
10/10 recommend this cookbook- add it to your collection!
Thank you NetGalley for an arc in exchange for my review!
I’m a lover of all things Dolly but have never been to Dollywood. This cookbook makes me want to plan a trip there, but in the meantime, I’ll just enjoy all of the delicious recipes.
The cookbook shares fun facts about Dollywood, details about cooking supplies and fun comfort food recipes.
Thank you, Netgalley and Adams Media, for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’ve always wanted to visit Dollywood! A big fan of Dolly herself, even though this is an unofficial cookbook it really seems authentic! This is due to the anecdotes along with the recipes that make you feel like you’re visiting Dollywood. I really liked the design of the cookbook as well. Many recipes stood out to me, from the pot roast and meatloaf stackers, to the lemon squares and blueberry muffins. I’ll definitely be cooking and baking up these recipes to share a bit of Dollywood with my friends and family!
I just reviewed The Unofficial Dollywood Cookbook by Erin Browne. #NetGalley

There are so many recipes that I would love to try. I can't believe there is that much comfort in one cookbook. Now my goal is to get there in person.
Dollywood is on my bucket list and someday I will make it there and eat my way through that park. My heart will probably explode halfway, but, so help me, I cannot wait.
This cookbook is bright and happy. It has plenty of tips and tricks to help serve the food the Dollywood way, and some of the fried recipes give an alternative was of cooking in the oven, which is very important. The author, Erin Browne, grew up and lives in East Tennessee, so she has experience with the original foods so I would love to try her recreations.
I love park food, having grown up next Disneyland. But I also know it’s impossible to eat everything in one day. So a cookbook like this is a wonderful addition because you have the recipes to make at anytime. This was just fun to look through and I see myself trying a few recipes soon. Not necessarily the 25-lb Apple Pie (I don’t have a 17” pan), but maybe the Banana Pudding. Unfortunately the ARC didn’t have many pictures, but I was planning on getting this cookbook anyways. When the final copy comes out, I will definitely be flipping through it to see all the pictures!
Thank you to Adams Media and NetGalley for the advanced copy for review.
Yeah this was a wonderful cookbook. I really like dolly parton as a singer so I had a feeling I would like her cookboo and I Dom I will make more recipes from here a lot. This book was approved by netgalley and the publisher for me to read and review
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Unofficial Dollywood Cookbook.
I've never been to Dollywood but after reading this, now I really want to go.
The best parts about this were the facts about Dollywood, how it came to be, and how Dolly Parton incorporated her love of food and life into the theme park.
There are few photos, which is very disappointing.
The recipes are nothing special, either. In fact, some of the photos are sad, like the mac and cheese.
Who thought that photo was acceptable in a cookbook meant to flatter and tout the many foods offered at Dollywood?
I respect the author's admiration and enthusiasm for the park and its many culinary offerings, but this didn't capture my interest as I had hoped.
This was okay. Seems like a cookbook that only fans of Dollywood would buy though. Nothing jumps out as a wow, I need to make that... The recipes seemed easy enough but not every recipe had pictures which is a big let down and some that did looked not so great. like the smoked Mac and cheese, it looked like a generic mac and cheese you would get out of a frozen meal in the grocery store. I think the best part of this was the heritage information on the park and the maps where you could buy these items in the park if you wanted to.
OKAY WERK!
I am the biggest Dolly Parton fan around, and have been BEGGING my husband to take a trip with me to Dollywood, because what's better than eating and walking around a Dolly Parton-themed amusement park?? Nothing, that's the answer. This home-cooking looks delicious and right up our alley on cheat days, and I can't wait to dive in!
Such a fun cookbook! It features recipes from the Dollywood theme park with easy instructions and some visuals. Now I want to visit Dollywood and taste many of these treats!
I recently went to Dollywood for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the food. For that reason, I was excited to read this cookbook, especially to get a recipe for Dollywood's famou Grist Mill cinnamon bread! You will find a mixture of standard theme park food, tradition southern recipes, and interesting twists on cultural dishes in this cookbook. Lots of fun.
