A striking finale. I have not read all of the books in this series but I intend to pick up the missing pieces. Very well written.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is my first book in the series so I’m coming in a bit late at number 22. That said, I did enjoy much of the story and could tell a few missing pieces from the earlier novels. Dan becomes the Admiral at the Naval Academy to round out his career. He inherits a multitude of issues while encountering others along the way, all while reminiscing about his own time there. It is a very introspective book and I’m grateful to NetGalley and the publisher for the read.

While this will probably be most appreciated by those who have read the long running series, it can and does still work as a standalone because of the dual time line which tracks Dan Lenson's plebe year and his first year as Superintendent of the US Naval Academy. The novel opens with Dan facing many challenges personal, professional, and beyond his control. He could not and did not envision the political changes the years would bring or the changes in global political power and the way wars are fought. And now, well, it's all on him. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It's an interesting read.

I rated this 3 stars at first but increased to 4 because although I did not enjoy the book, I think it is good, just not my cup of tea. I also think that this was a case where reading earlier in the series would have helped.
If you are into reading books about the military, this is for you. I loved The Great Santini by Pat Conroy. But that was less about the military or there were more details about the military in Conroy's book. Hence, this book is right for someone who wants that level of detail and authenticity, but it is not me. I can easily see this book being a 5 star book for some. It had a good plot, suspense and characterization but I got lost in the military of it.

This is the 22nd book in the author's Dan Lenson series but it was my first one read. Even so, I was easily able to get situated, with ease, in the series and enjoy it.

I love reading nonfiction about the service academies, as well as the occasional fictional work. This is one of the best service-academy novels I've ever read.

A real page turner full of nonstop action. Absolutely loved it.

I especially loved how the author alternated scenes between Midshipman Dan and Admiral Dan.

Though military thrillers aren't my usual thing, I've picked up the first book in the series and hope to read through them all.

Highly recommended!!

The Academy is book 22 in the Dan Lenson series by David Poyer.
Poyer has written a fantastic military techno thriller. Like I was hooked once I started!
A real action packed thriller that will keep you flipping thru the pages to learn what comes next.
This story did not disappoint me. Fast paced and action from gate. Has great plot, characters, and grabbed me from the start. I'm definitely adding this author to my Read List from now on.
The character development was well done. The story was rather intense and quite interesting.
A thought provoking and action packed story.

I would like to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this ahead of its publication date in return for my honest review.

After 22 books in the series, you’d expect an author to run out of ides, but David Poyer knows how to keep it fresh. In this entry we get parallel stories with Midshipman Dan and Admiral Dan going through their first class year and first year as the superintendent. Lots of great insights into Academy life through the ‘experiences’ of our special hero. The years have served him well.

Well, I am really late to the game as this novel, The Academy, is the 22d one in the Dan Lenson series, but my first.
Author David Poyer has obviously made a successful run and The Academy won't change that record. It has many good stories and lots of action. I can see where readers would want to keep coming back for more.
My reaction to the novel is that parallel stories are being told, yet the author goes back and forth, often without any indication that he has changed to another story. I found it a bit difficult to figure story I was currently reading about.
And let's face it, Dan Lenson doesn't lose. No matter the odds, he always comes out on top. Couldn't he finish second once or twice?
Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. 3.5 stars
