This is a wonderful overview of tarot! Although I have lightly read tarot for many years, I have zero of the cards mesmerized and didn't know much else besides the little that I did. This gives you so much good information! What the cards mean, different spreads, and understanding how one should read them, Also, I adore the whole look of the book, it is so pretty! I have read other books by this author and have liked all of them as she writes clearly, is concise, gives great information, and is a trusted source on these topics. If you're looking for more details on using tarot, this book is exactly what you need to help! I plan on buying a physical copy to have on hand as a reference as I continue to use my cards more mindfully. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking into using tarot cards.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC which was shared with me for my honest review.

Tarot Magick is the perfect guide for all: experience and non-experience users. I have read many MANY tarot reference books but nothing was quite as impactful as this. It's very education, insightful, addresses concerns, and a great tool to guide new or old tarot readers. A must read!

I have been using this book to help with my tarot readings and it is by far once of the best and most user friendly guides out there.

Tarot reading can be difficult, trying to remember all the meanings. As I only read for myself I don’t mind looking up meanings to card and interpreting them in my own way, and this book allows that.

I have been super interested in Tarot and Oracle cards/decks, but struggle with finding a source I enjoy for card explanations. This guide is fantastic, clear, and gives a lot of background. Love this

Get this book! Whether you are new to the work of Lindsay Squire, new to tarot, or new to spiritual practice you will learn so much here. Fans of Lindsay Squire's work will want to immediately add this to their collection. I received a digital copy but will buy the physical copy ASAP to have a chance to view this amazing artwork in person. This book takes an easy to read and well organized approach to the craft of tarot. I've been studying for a couple of years and have read several books on tarot, but wish I could have started with this one. Broken down into easy to understand segments, this book taught me about things like how to interpret the numerology of tarot, and it gives great insight into in-depth areas like astrological correspondence for the cards. Gorgeous illustrations accompany the text, adding to the visual as well as informational appeal of this book.
Thank you to Net Galley and Leaping Hare press for the advance copy and chance to review.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book! It is absolutely fantastic for beginners! It teaches you so much about tarot, the major and minor arcana, how to read for yourself versus someone else, different spreads, and even includes different spells. I felt that this book struck a good balance with giving introductory information while also including in-depth information that even seasoned tarot card users may not be aware of or think about. Please all the graphics and artwork was awesome!

This is one of the best tarot books I have read. This was a beautifully illustrated and wonderfully organized book that breaks down a tarot deck and the many ways you can interpret the cards.

In this book, Squire provides information on the Major and Minor arcana by providing information about the ruling planet, zodiac signs, element, keywords for upright and reversals, and explain their meanings for both upright and reversals. Squire not only breaks down each card, but she also provides extremely helpful information about how to determine time with cards, numerology, answering Yes or No questions, the four elements, and planet correspondences.

Squire also provides ways to journal with your tarot and how to use tarot cards in your spellwork. I am very interested in applying tarot cards to spellwork now. Overall, this is an absolutely wonderful beginner tarot book and I highly recommend it, especially since it has wonderful illustrated quick reference pages with each section.

It’s been years since I practiced tarot, but this easy-to-follow guide allayed the concerns I had about trying to read again. Learning to interpret 78 cards doesn’t feel as daunting with the simple tips provided in Tarot Magick. Lindsay Squire does an incredible job explaining the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana; as well as symbolism, deck care, spreads, daily use, and so much more - in a way that’s straightforward and illustrated beautifully by Viki Lester.

The recommended reading list in the back is also a fantastic resource for those just starting out.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A beautifully illustrated book. I really liked that the author covered timing relating to the suits. I always enjoy individual interpretations of the card meanings by tarot authors so that was a great section also.

My favorite part was the tarot spells. The spells were solid and well detailed. In the Netgalley version the pages were a little mixed up. I think the intro page was supposed to go before the spell but some were after and one prosperity spell might have been missing.

Still a lot of fun and I am looking forward to trying the spells!

The Witch of the Forest’s Guide to Tarot Magick by Lindsay Squire.
Thank you Quarto Publishing Group/Leaping Hare Press for providing an e-copy through NetGalley.
Rating: 5
The first three Witch of the Forest Guides in magic are all very well put together, with easy to understand explanations, fun illustrations, and comprehensive guides to witch magic (natural, earth, and astrology magick). The latest installment, Tarot Magick, is no exception as it thoroughly explains how tarot decks work, the magic of the cards, and how to use tarot in your daily life. Tarot Magick goes over six topics: Starting Your Tarot Journey. Practical Tarot. The Major Arcana. The Minor Arcana. Tarot Spreads. Tarot Spells and Rituals. This review will go over both Tarot Magick and the Witch of the Forest Guide series as a whole.
Squire’s books are very easy to read because 1) they break down complex topics into simple subject headers 2) instead of paragraphs, readers are given many lists to follow 3) many illustrations help to visualize the descriptions or instructions. 4) there are short paragraphs and blurbs rather than long pages of text. Each chapter starts with the title and brief explanation to give you a clear idea of what you are about to learn. For instructions, Squire provides brief blurbs for each step, accompanied by an illustration. Or, if the author is describing a list of things (spells, items needed, candles, etc), there will be an illustration of the object accompanied by a brief descriptor, so your eyes never get bored. This is especially important for Taort cards, as the author goes through each of the major and minor arcana, and without this breakup the book would get dense/boring real quick. For each card, there is a page of descriptor, followed by a full page illustration of the arcana, designed by the illustrator. The illustrations themselves are simple and eye-pleasing, going with the book’s overall color scheme (in the case of Tarot Magick, purple and black and brown and red). More detailed explanations are longer and will take a whole page, but Squire breaks up long text into smaller paragraphs, each with their own subheading, so readers can grasp the explanation easier. Other ideas might be more visual, with text as a small part of the illustration but still conveying the information. No topic extends longer than one page, so each page turn is a fresh and new idea. Other illustrations are there just for visual pleasure, and are great additions to the book.
I have read many tarot/witch/spell books, and Squire’s are the most digestible and easiest to learn from. They are also very helpful for young teens who want to get into magic, witchcraft, astrology, and tarot as well.

Let me say that this book is perfect for anyone who has bought a tarot deck and wants to start understanding and studying how to lay down the cards.

This book is very attractive and the way the author proposes the reading of the cards is very simple and easy and quick to understand.

I liked the final part with spells to do with the deck for protection and attraction.

I learned things I didn't know about the tarot deck, such as the various card dispositions and their meanings.

I felt that this is a book for beginners and for people who already know a little about the subject and want to go a little deeper, especially with the spells of the deck.

4.5 Stars
One Liner: Informative, concise, and has some great illustrations

Learning tarot is fun but also scary and overwhelming. I started a few books but abandoned them due to different reasons. The cover of this book grabbed my interest, and the page count seemed reader-friendly (considering it includes an array of topics).
Tarot Magick provides an introduction to tarot readings, choosing a deck, caring for it, reading the cards, learning the spreads, and a handful of spells to try (at the end). This is a lot to digest, except that everything is brief, crisp, and to the point. Both upright and reversals are covered.
The focus of the interpretation is on the symbolism, which is something I’m still trying to work with. Though the book has cards designed by the author and illustrated by Viki Lester, the author explains the symbolism of the standard RWS (Raider Waite Smith) deck. I read the interpretations while zooming in on the images I have with me. This helped me get a better idea of the details I missed until now.
The book has plenty of illustrations (all the major arcana are full-page illustrations) and is so, so lovely! The darkish color schemes bring out the necessary details. I love their vibe- powerful, confident, artsy, and magical.

To summarize, Tarot Magick is a vibrant and informative book that will help a tarot learner get more comfortable with the cards and their symbolism. I know I will continue to refer to this book for a long time.
Thank you, NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Leaping Hare Press, for the eARC. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

This is probably my favorite tarot book for beginners! I love that one of the first things discussed is that you don't need to buy your own deck. Knowing the power of tarot as a divination tool is wonderful but being able to use this deck for other things such as protection or prosperity spells is another thing entirely.

The author also goes in depth into not just the meaning of the cards but the zodiac associations, numerology associations, color associations, etc. There is so much information packed in this book that I will have to see about buying a physical copy to keep on hand when we teach tarot classes in my store. There is even a page full of other books that would enhance learning.

Fantastic book by a very knowledgeable author.

I've been reading quite a few books on tarot lately, as a beginner, and this is hands down the best one I've encountered.

To start with, the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. Illustrations of all of the Major Arcana are included, and there is also artwork on just about every single page.

The author is clearly extensively knowledgeable about tarot cards and various other aspects of witchcraft, exploring how astrology and numerology factor into interpretation of the cards. She also explains different types of spreads in depth, as well as the meaning of each of the individual 78 cards in the deck and their reversed meanings as well. This makes the book a great starting text for beginners.

However, Squire also explores how to use the cards to answer yes or no questions, work them into spells, and most intriguingly, incorporate them into a regular journaling practice in order to learn more about ourselves, the cards, our emotions, and how to best interpret the cards, both for ourselves and others.

This is one of the rare few books that I'm planning to purchase as soon as I can, since I had far too many bookmarks, and will need to reference this one far too often to not have a physical copy on my shelf. Whether you're just a beginner like me, or already have some experience and are looking for novel ways to use the cards or gain a deeper understanding, this is the book for you.

When learning something new, it is always important to find the right reference guide to make this process easier. Tarot Magick was a really straightforward, easy to follow guide to starting your tarot reading journey. With some history thrown in, this guide focuses on the ways of meaning-making in tarot and would be a great reference for someone at any stage of their tarot journey. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a one-stop-shop kind of book which they can go back to again and again. I would really consider buying a hard copy of this one for my own library.

I'm still a beginner in tarot reading, even though I have already read some books and materials and taken some courses. So, I think I can review this book as someone who has some knowledge on the topic, but who is not an expert.
That being said, this book is beautiful! Not only does it have gorgeous illustration, but it also has some of the most important tips for beginners and it works wonderful as a quick consultation material. I don't know if it is enough for someone who's starting (but again, what is enough in tarot reading? Is there such a thing?), but it for sure is an excellent starting point.

Definitely recommend this to anyone who is trying to learn Tarot. She explains it in really simple ways that you can understand and remember.

This book is a fantastic deep dive into tarot and other card based divination systems for a beginner. Although the knowledge in the book is fairly basic they’re still something for everyone. And things even the most adept tarot reader can try.

The illustrations are stunning and the illustrated pages give a quick visual recap of each section of the book
The only negative id say is that the book is heavily based around the rws tarot deck and doesn’t really give any info on other decks such a Thoth or Lenormand.

I love the spell section as it shows readers another way that tarot can be utilised.

Definitely a must have for beginners to the tarot. However, I did find it lacking in some areas. How to read different cards together based on type spread and how long you should keep the spell ingredients. However, the author does provide an advanced reading list.

Arc review netgalley

This author was from the beginning in validation her belief systems and how her book is a reflection of that, and intern how her book would and should be used to learn. That I respect more than all else. Of the hundred of “tarot authors and those for clout” she showed clear understanding and explaining tarot, as well as layout of her book.

I would recommend this book to beginners with your values and belief fall in with this tarot reader- which is something I recommend to all.
