As a long time Acuff-fan, I thoroughly enjoyed his book. All It Takes Is A Goal gives a more systematic approach to achieving long term goals, in line with Acuff's previous books Soundtrack but providing a more concrete path towards success. Well-written and concise. Always a pleasure!

I love how Jon breaks down goals into easy, middle and guaranteed goals. He motivated me to get to work on my 2024 goals. I can't wait for what else Jon has in store this year!

The first book on goals for years that I have read every day. The author has the uncanny knack of knowing EXACTLY why you think you can't achieve your goals.

I can count on one hand the number of books like this and I love it. I'd been goal streaking (one technique mentioned) to learn Hebrew for a while and it works!

Honestly, I wish I'd had this book twenty years ago. You really understand how to make progress in a practical way.

This book finally broke through my resistance in accomplishing my goals. I look forward to Mondays, and helped with getting through the boring and the overwhelming aspects of some goals. The masterful storytelling and encouragement is totally unique to the author. I have higher expectations for my weeks, months, and years now.

This book was full of motivational ideas and practical information, that I can use in business and in my personal life. Not only will the book help me in my business, but it will also help me encourage those people I coach and mentor. I feel sure I will read it again, and continue to learn from it. I love how real Jon Acuff is in his writing - and funny! It's not the first Jon Acuff book I have read, and each one leave me eagerly awaiting the next book. Very well done, Jon!

What a gift to myself to learn to get serious about my goals in a way that I will actually take action on. This book breaks goal-setting and achieving them down in such a simple way. Who knew making lists could be so fun?

“I don’t have time” is no longer our excuse. This book brings a new perspective to time audits and how to “steal” your time back.

I can’t wait to set goals and track them with my winning scorecard, especially since I know how to start and finish from his previous books.

Some of my fave quotes:

I wrote down more than 170 of my best moments, and not one of them involved social media.

You’ll quit before you start if the ticket price to trying is first understanding your vision.

Your imagination is bigger than your calendar.

The big problem with a time audit is that it won’t give you a quick win that makes you want to continue, which is what I’m always looking for with any goal.

What do I win? First dream about the win, and then we can decide about the work.

Grab a copy for yourself and one to gift to a friend!

Jon Acuff's new book is fantastic! I had the pleasure of living in my potential zone in health a few years ago. In 2010, I was a complete couch potato. In 2017, I was riding a bike across the Alps. It was wonderful, but with some health struggles and complete changes in my routines, I have not been in that zone for a couple of years in fitness, and never felt that I was living up to my full potential in other areas of my life. But Jon writes out the blueprint in this book, starting with finding the motivation that means the most to each individual reader, how to get out of being stuck, and when and how to progress to the kinds of goals that completely change the game! With lots of helpful tools along the way, I finally feel that I have what I need to consistently replicate getting into my full potential zone. If you've ever wanted to do bigger things than you're doing now, or discover what you are capable of, I highly recommend reading this book, and then doing what it says!

Jon Acuff's "All it Takes is a Goal" is refreshing—it’s authentic, relatable, and incredibly actionable. With an engaging blend of humor, life stories, and insights, Jon explores what it really means to set and achieve your goals, taking readers on a transformative journey that is as entertaining as it is enlightening.

One of the standout features of this book is its carefully organized structure. Comprising sections like 'The List,' 'The Zones,' 'The Fuel,' and 'The Promise,' each part builds upon the other, offering readers a comprehensive guide to goal-setting. It's like a roadmap, providing the What, Why, How, and finally, the inspiration to get you to your destination.

While every chapter offers value, the chapter "Own More Stories and Fewer Objects" resonated with me. In a world obsessed with material possessions, Jon makes a compelling case, through stories, for why experiences and the stories they bring are the real treasures in life.

"All it Takes is a Goal" isn't just a book; it’s a manual for anyone looking to make meaningful progress in their personal and professional lives. Jon serves as a wise, funny, and incredibly relatable guide through the winding roads of goal-setting and achievement. Your future self will thank you for reading it.

The book is a must read and it will help you understand how to go from easy goals to guaranteed goals by focusing on simple daily tasks like completing an action tracker.

“If you put in real effort, the results are math, not a miracle.” -Jon Acuff

Jon Acuff's “Best Moments List” activity taught me that the best moments in my life took real work and started off with small daily and weekly actions that resulted in success over time.

I've listened to Jon's podcast over the last 2 years. I've participated in his challenges. This book brought it all together. It is a funny read, but most importantly, it is full of tangible items that you can complete at your own pace to bring you closer to any goal you set out to achieve.

They say all good things come to those who wait but am I ever glad I joined Jon’s book launch team so I could dive into this one early! Some of the most common concepts that have taken me over ten years to even begin to unlock have been explored in the pages of All It Takes Is a Goal. The book is filled with actionable items that can be easily followed as you read along. The best part: real life examples with a touch of Jon’s undeniable humor are sprinkled in with every turn of the page. The book begins with flipping the norm on top of its head by looking at the past instead of the future to allow the reader to better understand what they truly love in life so goals cannot only be obtainable but also properly established. Thinking it could not possibly get any easier than this, Jon then provides a fun way of turning goals into games and a breakdown of the various types of goals depending on longevity and resources necessary to tackle them. With all these goal tactics rolled into one book, any goal setter will be able to conquer the goals listed on their to-do list and beyond!

What a Great book! Another Acuff masterpiece! Easy to understand and get totally in your head to work on your wonderful moments and the way to continue to have them! Examples, stories are all in this book. I can't wait to have the book in my hands to mark so many pages to remind me the path I need and want to take.. So worth the money to get on the new path I will take.

This book is nothing of what I expected, but everything I needed!

When I was reading this, all I wanted to do was take notes to implement, but I had to set everything down and just take it all in. There’s so many good nuggets in here that are so great at redirecting how we have learned to stress ourselves out on goals, but we don’t need to. It’s like a rewire for your brain for your future. The best part about it is that this is a book for everyone at every stage in life. It’s not too soon and it’s definitely not too late to get your goals and a little extra. This is definitely the type of book you were read over and over again, and I absolutely plan to!

I had never heard of Jon Acuff before requesting the ARC* of this book based on the title and description.

As a chronic goal-abandoner (I can’t even take vitamins everyday because I forget!), I’ll read anything that promises to help me address this weakness.

Two chapters in I became a subscriber to his podcast because I found his writing style so engaging and self aware.

I really enjoyed the format of the book and the big idea which is essentially splitting one big crazy goal into smaller bite-sized pieces and how to go about doing so.

Littered with practical, real-life examples and steering a long way clear of snake oil, I can honestly say that I’ve never highlighted so much in one book. Even my favourite business book that has been read time and again is highlighter free.

It’s left me excited to find a goal again and actually pretty chuffed that I technically already have goals (like reading 30 books this year).

An amazing book for anyone who’s a bit stuck, who needs help working out how to achieve something big or scary, or ahead of the New Year.

*thank you to NetGalley & Baker Books for the ARC

This review was done as part of Jon Acuff's Launch Team. I received an advanced digital copy of the book to read and share my honest opinion.

Self-help books are big on promises that amp up the motivation while reading. However, when it comes to what happens after the book ends, readers can be left with a feeling of "OK, but now what? I feel all this potential and excitement, but I don't know where to start!"

Jon Acuff's latest book, "All It Takes Is a Goal," works hard to bridge that gap between mind work and actual progress. Having read many of Acuff's books, including "Finish" and "Soundtracks," I have always appreciated his easygoing style and how he can capture the hamster wheel of highly motivated or achieving people. He shares his own challenges and doesn't try to be someone he's not. One of the bonuses of reading Acuff's books is that he knows how to bring the funny into topics that sometimes feel dry or like someone is talking down at the reader. He keeps it real!

While "Finish" and "Soundtracks" focus more on the brain work of recognizing unhelpful thought patterns and how to interrupt them, "All It Takes is a Goal" takes the time to reflect on the thoughts but pushes beyond the views and gets into action.

Acuff takes the overwhelming feelings that come with potential and shifts them into bite-size goals that readers can level up at their own pace. At first, it may feel like, "That's all there is to it?" And, of course, the reader still has to do the work that goes into it. But, with Acuff's tiered goal plan, potential starts to feel like "possible."

I'm looking forward to putting these ideas into action, as I have been struggling with my big ideas that I haven't been able to wrap my brain around.

I know… “another book about goals.” This book demystifies the process of creating and then crushing goals that really matter. Jon’s style of communicating is easy to follow and the concepts are super practical. The pathway of moving through your Best Moments List then considering Performance Zones builds powerful momentum that matters this week. The concept of picking the Game you want to win is so helpful because we often feel like we have to work on 20 big goals all at once. Using a relevant Scorecard puts us in charge of what winning looks like. Reading and applying these concepts will help executives, young leaders, homeschool parents and everyone in between reach their full potential, regardless of their sphere of influence. “In order to fulfill your potential you must first create a detailed, compelling, long-reaching vision for your life.” John Acuff’s book, All It Takes Is A Goal, sets you on a pathway that turns your potential into confident reality.
