Maud McIntyre has set up a Scottish Ladies Detective Agency in 1911 Edinburgh. Alone with her assistant Daisy she is asked to stop a Jewel Thief at the Duchess of Duddingston’s weekend. The weekend leads to murder. Has Maud taken on too much with her first case?
Narrated by Helen McAlpine she gets the accents spot on and all the characters are very distinctive. A lovely cozy mystery set at the time of the Suffragette movement Maud must prove herself in very much an old fashioned world.
Thank you NetGalley and (publisher, Bookouture Audio) for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
This is a nice easy and cosy read for a Sunday afternoon with a coffee. I’ve always liked historical fiction and thriller. But when the two combined together I’d expect it to be full of twists and gripping moments. I feel like this book could do with a bit more twists instead of a straight guess from halfway through. But it is still a nice story with lots of interesting characters.
I just LOVE Maud McIntyre and I can't wait to read more about her!
Maud has opened a detective agency as M McIntyre and when clients find out she is a woman it's hit or miss. She does get hired on to three jobs though! One to attend a weekend party and find out who and/or prevent a newly risen jewelry thief from striking. Another to find a lost/stolen dog and another to recover some love letters that could cause a scandal. Maud and her former ladies maid turned employee are perfect and so much fun! If you're looking for a light hearted mystery then this is the book for you.
I'm so excited to have been given the opportunity to read and review this story from NetGalley and Bookouture Audio. You should all definitely add this to your TBR for later this month when it is released!
The first in the series of The Scottish Ladies’ Detective Agency is a really cosy treat. Set in Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands in 1911, Maud McIntyre’s newly set up detective agency has a client and a puzzle to solve. With the trusty support of her assistant, Daisy, they set out to prove that women can be just as successful in what was considered, at that time, a male profession. There’s a real fun feel to the characters, but a seriousness to the investigation. Looking forward to the next one in the series. The delightful narration brings the story to life. Thank you to Net Galley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
Maud McIntyre has recently opened a detective agency with her former lady’s maid Daisy. They are hired to investigate a string of jewelry thefts that have occurred after society events. The investigation involves them attending a house party at Duddingston Hall. During the weekend event additional jewelry is stolen and one of the guests is murdered.
I really enjoyed this cozy historical mystery! Maid and Daisy have a great friendship and partnership. I look forward to reading more books in this series.
The audiobook was really well done. The narrator was so great to listen to.
Really enjoyed this!
Two female detectives in a time when women weren't even allowed to vote... they came up against several obstacles but were still able to solve multiple mysteries.
Thank you, #Netgalley & #Bookouture, for my audio copy. The narrator did a fantastic job and I look forward to more from the series.
A perfect cosy mystery with some fab characters. It had the same elements as some of my favourite historical fiction murder mysteries and was effortless to read.
The audiobook was superbly narrated and brought the words from the pages and into life. I always looked forward to going back to this one and it’s steady and gentle plot had me sad once it had finished!
It’s a perfect foundation for more books in this series in the future and I can’t wait for more. I look forward to rejoining Maud & Daisy and their future adventures in detective-ing.
The Scottish Ladies’ Detective Agency is a slow burn cozy historical mystery where a theft and murder take place in a Scottish Highlands estate. Miss Maud McIntyre and Daisy Cameron are hired to investigate this case. It is set in 1911 Scotland with themes of feminism.
This is for mystery readers who prefer a slow paced read, cozy mysteries, and women’s historical fiction.
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to listen to this audiobook ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.
A very well written mystery, fast paced and captivating.
Excellent narration.
Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for the ARC.
Maude McIntyre with the assistance of her former ladies maid Daisy has set up The Scottish Ladies Detective Agency in Edinburgh and together are awaiting their first case. A couple of days into their new venture they are employed by the Duchess of Duddingston who, worried about a recent spate of jewellery burglaries at recent high society events, asks them to attend her own event. The ante is upped as this time not only is there a burglary but also a death, followed by a missing person. Can the duo solve each whilst avoiding the advances of numerous potential suitors? Think Miss Jean Brodie meets Agatha Christie with a touch of Lord Peter Wimsey thrown in. Gentle crime mystery and a nice introduction to a potential series and a great choice of narrator.
With thanks to Netgalley, bookouture audio and Lydia Travers for an advanced reader copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.
