That was rude, how dare you end it like that. …….
This book is absolutely phenomenal, I was hooked from the first word right up till the end. I need to know what happens now, I need the sequel.
This is the best book I have listened to this year, the characters, the world building were all just chefs kiss. Snarky Tiarn is the best thing in this whole world. This is the first book in years that has played with my emotions and given me such pure pleasure in a book. I can’t wait to buy a copy as soon as it comes out because I will give Rebecca Yarros all of my money.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, RB Media, Rebecca Solar, Teddy Hamilton for bringing this together and giving me the recording early. And a huge thank you to Rebecca Yarros for this book because it was exactly what I needed.
***5 Stars***
Overall,
I was blessed by the NetGalley gods and received an Audio ARC of this book. I had kept seeing it on social media and heard nothing but good things. That plus dragons had me instantly putting a request in. I am so glad I did. This book was SO GOOD! It has been a long time since I have been unable to do anything else but think about a book and wanting to do nothing but read more despite having to work and do grown up things.
If I had to describe this book I’d say throne of glass but the main character is Elide and she is going through the witch flying trials. Mixed with some Eragon. Honestly it’s so good and I don’t want to summarize or spoil anything. The only downside of getting this ARC is that I am going ti have to wait even longer to get the next one!
Narrator,
The audio is great. No complaints.
Recommendation,
I would put money down now saying this will be the next big fantasy romance series on social media. Like good money. In other words yes read it.
This is the dragon book of my dreams. I loved it. It gripped me from the first page and never let go. I adored Violet, especially her straightforwardness. The slowburn romance was perfect and very steamy. This book was very sex positive, which I appreciate.
My favourite part of the book were, of course, the dragons and the dragon-rider bond. The dragons are actual characters with their own agency and society.
Audiobook was great, the narrators did did a fantastic job.
I can't wait for the sequel, I'm looking forward to find out more about this world and spend more time with these characters.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Riders and dragons and spice oh my! I'd give this book a million stars if I could!
Rebecca Soler did an absolutely fabulous job bringing Violet to life! She was the perfect choice to narrate this amazing story!
I can confidently say it's my favorite romantasy book of the year! Nothing can top Fourth Wing, it's just that good!
Rebecca Yarros is an absolute genius! The story is amazing and the dragon commentary is everything! There's so much awesome world building!
It kept me captivated from beginning to end! And that cliffhanger has me wanting book two immediately!
Thank you to Netgalley and RB media for allowing me to listen to this audiobook ahead of release in exchange for an honest review!
Fourth Wing is a fantasy told from our fmc Violet's pov, and she is a 20-year-old that has been sent to a war college by her general mom to train and become a dragon rider even though she has trained her entire life to be a scribe. Violet is an underdog who is not expected to make it through the war college. She is seen as physically weak and constantly has to use her intelligence and poison to outsmart others. She finds herself bonded with two dragons and finds herself connected because of this bond to Xaden, who is a leader in the college and hates.
I loved every moment of this book; if you're looking for characters training together, dragon fantasy, and competitions, then you need to read this. The pacing in this book was great. I liked the worldbuilding and the characters a lot. I love fantasy books with dragons, and this wasn't an exception. The romance was a slow burn, but it was good, and when they finally got together, there were spicy scenes. The ending wasn't that bad of a cliffhanger, but it was surprising, and I'm so excited for book 2.
This book has:
- Dragon/dragon riders
- Combat and training
- Rebels
- Political intrigue
- Rebels
- Enemies to lovers
- Slow Burn
- Some spice
I don't normally listen to audiobooks, but this narrator did a great job keeping me interested. Thank you to the publisher for this audiobook arc for an honest review. The narrator did a great job.
I need the next one now! The magic system is well thought out, the dragons are everything, and the characters are fully fleshed out. The story sucked me in from the first chapter and didn't let go! I finished this book in a little over 24 hours. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it.
4.5 🌟
I couldn't finish the audiobook because it got archived but as far as I listened to the story, I give it a 4.5 stars! I love the world building aspect as well as the details that accompanied the plot. I can't believe this is Rebecca's first fantasy book?!?! I will have a review once I finish this book but so far, it's a 4.5 stars to me!
The audiobook was AMAZING. I felt all the emotions when Rebecca Soler and Teddy Hamilton were reading. The passion was definitely there on both parts. It an enemies to lovers, slow burn, dragons, underdog fmc, war college and you get some spice. Yes. Rebecca Yarros did such a good job with the character building. Over all the it was a 10/10 and I probably won’t stop talking about this book for awhile.

Fourth Wing has been getting a lot of buzz recently, and the overall premise sounded interesting and like it had the potential to be very good, so I thought, well, why not? It's not what I'd usually reach for, but I do enjoy a romantasy every now and again. This is about Violet, a twenty year old who is forced to become a dragon rider by her mother, even though she'd been planning on becoming a scholar. She has a chronic illness that resembles Ehlers Danlos syndrome, which causes everyone around her to believe she's just not cut out for the role of dragon rider, because Yarros' dragons will straight up burn you alive if they think you're weak. Violet would obviously like to, uh, live, and so she's determined to survive, bond with a dragon, and graduate. Also, one of her upperclassmen wants to murder her because he's the son of a former rebel, and she's the daughter of a general.
This has the energy of what makes watching the Vampire Diaries so fun (or any CW show, really), so I did like the overall vibe, even if for me the book itself was just fine. There's a lot of interesting things going on that I enjoyed, like Yarros' take on dragons and the absolutely excellent depiction of living with chronic illness. Yarros has a good sense of her world and the way it operates, and I think one way this really does stand out is that she spends a lot of time writing Violet's struggles with care and giving her the space to be angry about all her peers being wildly ableist towards her, and coming up with solutions to her problems that are not "and so I magicked away my disabilities."
Fourth Wing is very much a romantasy. Though there's a lot of magic and politics happening, the romance is fairly central (secondary only towards Violet's quest to successfully become a dragon rider) and Yarros' romance background is very apparent. In many ways, though, this book is like if Naomi Novik's Scholomance series took place in a fantasy world and had dragons and was unrelentingly horny. Or maybe Scholomance meets The Hunger Games meets Divergent meets ACOTAR, plus dragons? I don't quite know, but I feel like this will have its audience and its audience will absolutely adore it. I might not really be that audience, but I did overall think this was a fun romp. If you're into fantasy that's heavy on the romance (or maybe a romance novel that takes place in a fantasy world with fantasy stakes), then I do think you should check this out.
The biggest problem I had with Fourth Wing is that it ends up reading way younger than I was expecting. I sort of felt like I was reading a teenager's diary at times, and the plot, writing, and exploration of themes were all quite young adult as opposed to adult—granted, Yarros herself markets this as New Adult, which is a nebulous category that sometimes means "bridging the gap between YA fiction and adult fiction" and sometimes means "YA but with explicit sex." This fell more in line with the latter, where it felt like I was reading YA but everyone says fuck and there's on page sex, which is fine but not quite what I'd been expecting. It was a little difficult for me to reconcile the medieval Europe vibes and characters literally saying "vibe," like they're actually living in 2023. The plot was fairly standard YA and I know it's not what Yarros was going for but I spent maybe 3/4 of the book screaming "VIOLET HAS TWO HANDS!! XADEN ALSO HAS TWO HANDS!!!!" I think most people will be very on board with the main relationship (don't worry! this is NOT a love triangle situation! I just think there's something uniquely delicious about two people who want the same person and hate each other to do a romantic and/or sexual entanglement, even if my hopes were eventually dashed). I often felt like I was reading contemporary fiction in the way the dialogue/prose was written, which is also not necessarily something I jive with, but again, YMMV.
Overall this was a little more juvenile in writing/characters/themes/nuance than I'd expected/wanted, but I did enjoy this in the way I enjoyed the Vampire Diaries which means while I have a lot of qualms, it's still fun! It's a nice little brain break! I will probably re-read when I'm in a silly goofy mood! I found this to be overhyped but honestly if this checks your boxes you'll definitely disagree with me, and I do think that's what makes reading interesting.
Audiobook notes: I enjoyed the narration for the audio quite a bit! It was very well done and I loved the passion Soler brought. The use of Hamilton was also a very nice addition that added to the experience.
I wish I could have listened to this one - I received confirmation that I was approved for this one yesterday, logged on to listen today, and it shows it was already archived yesterday (same day as approval). As a result, can’t really rate it.
Five. Freaking. Stars. Oh my word, hands down one of the best books I've read! It is everything you want in a dragon, battle, romance, deceit, mystery, strong female and male lead, intense book! No wonder many book sellers are doing special editions. I could not put this book down! It's 100% captivating! And make note that this is book 1... yep, #cliffhanger of the ages people!
Not many times do I feel this way, but it was an honor to get this as an ARC.
A million ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, 🌶️🌶️🌶️
•enemies to lovers
•forced proximity
•dragons
•slow burn
DID THIS BOOK JUST BLOW ME AWAY! Top read of 2023. I already want to start the book over again!
Unique world + magic systems, DRAGONS which I believe were my favorite part of this book, amazing characters with found family vibes + secrets & twists, and the moments throughout that kept me laughing.
Violet the FMC who suffers from chronic illness sets off to college war camp to become a rider by her mother. There she learns who she is and all that she is capable of. The underdog finds her way.
Xaden the MMC who we finally get a POV at the very end. Grumpy, broody, mysterious, & dangerous. So much about his character just sucked me in immediately. Always showing up at the perfect time to save the day.
“I don’t deserve you, but I’m going to keep you all the same. “
The storyline had me so intrigued and I couldn’t put this story down! Wanted to know what was next! I felt all the emotions and then some! The ending had me feeling every emotion at once and of course expect the cliffhanger! I’m so excited to see where the next book goes I know it will be just as amazing!
The audiobook was incredible I loved the narrators, brought so much of this story to life! Thank you Netgalley & RBmedia for the audio arc in exchange for an honest review!
Thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for this opportunity to listen rage and review this audiobook arc which is available May 2,2023.
Ahhhhhhh! First off I lost my collective stuffing when I saw I got the arc. It is one of the most anticipated books this year. Second the narrators are freaking epic. God they bring the words Ms Yarros wrote to life and to a whole other level.
This is a freaking must read for fantasy readers. I was invested that I listened to it nonstop and would not go to bed because I had to know what happened next. Holy mother of Pearl this story was hit after hit. No lagging no true filler moments. It hit the gate running and dragged you with it!
