I was so eager to read another Mia Sheridan book that I hadn't realized how familiar it sounded.. And that is because... I already read this heartbreaking story a few years ago.
What a story!
"I have a business arrangement to offer you.
I lifted one brow. " a business arrangement?" She nodded..."Yes, well, in actuality, Mr;Hawthorn, I'm here to propose marriage."
Marriage of convenience is a trope I really like, and the secret behind this marriage of convenence really adds something to this story.
Kira needs to get married in order to access to her inheritance. Grayson, as a labeled convicted felon is unable to obtain any funds to keep his family vneyard afloat.
The relationship and evolution of their mutual feelings is so beautiful, sad and poetic. The secondary characters are also so important and supportive. I can just say that if you enjoy heartbreaking romances, marriage of convenience and secrets... this book was written for you.
Grayson and Kira's relationship in Grayson's Vow was so cute!! I always appreciate a dual perspective, but some of the pacing was off and I wasn't really vibing with the sex scenes (although that's just personal preference). I really loved Kira as a character and thought that she was developed really well and had a very strong presence. I felt pretty neutral towards Grayson as a love interest for most of the book and was starting to warm up to him more but then the third act conflict came around and he was a complete asshole and had no grounds for his behavior which honestly ruined his character for me. Also, there was a scene about halfway through the book from Grayson's that felt pretty problematic where he is coming on to Kira and thinks, "She still looked uncertain, but she didn't tell me to stop, so I took that as a yes and leaned in to kiss her neck." It was just a very uncomfortable situation.
This. Cover. Also, it’s Mia Sheridan! I haven’t read her first book, Archer’s Voice, yet. But when I saw she had another one I was like yes! I’ve heard really good things about her and they’re rightly deserved. I was confused when I looked this up originally, because Goodreads has reviews from 7+ years ago, except this book isn’t even published yet.
This is the first time where I feel like MS has recycled some of her material. But with over 10 books written by the time this was first released, I can't really fault her. Luckily, the similarities are to two of her stories I also really enjoyed - 'Brant's Return' and 'Preston's Honor.'
Although this story does feel familiar in several aspects, there is enough originality for me to see it in a new light. I really enjoyed the characters, the banter, the setting, the plot. All of it. But that's no surprise - the day I stop loving Mia Sheridan's stories will be the day I die. She has such a strength in conveying profound meaning and emotion in her writing, so I will always feel something when I read one of her books and this one does exactly that.
I've enjoyed Mia Sheridan's writing before. While I was excited to read this story, the miscommunication and continuous hurt the main character did were a little much for me. I loved the Napa setting and the side characters, but just a bit too much angst.
I possibly loved this novel more than I loved Archer’s Voice, which feels impossible considering how much I loved that one. I couldn’t put it down and went to bed so early in the morning. I'm going to regret it today, but it was worth it. I especially loved Kira’s strength and spark. Her fiery personality and antics are true smile-lifters. Mia Sheridan has a real gift to hit you in the feels and each time I pick one of her books, I know she won’t disappoint.
Wow what a great story! Marriage of convenience, Grayson needs moneys to fix his failing vineyard and Kira need to start over away from her controlling rich abusive father. The story was great. They both had the parent issues. Kira see good in everything ex she helped at a center, she when to Africa to help build a hospital, and she adopted a special needs puppy. Although they both are opposites they both end making the marriage work
This was another classic Mia Sheridan story.
Spoilers:
I enjoyed the dynamics in this book and the fake marriage and enemies to lovers tropes. My only complaint is that this wasn’t just harmless enemy banter a lot if the time and sometimes Grayson felt truly mean and harsh. I feel like with a main character that’s experienced abuse that this is not okay. For me, it took away from what otherwise was a great story. Thanks to NetGalley and Bloom Books for the ARC of this re-release.
Thank you to SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
I was really excited to see this Mia Sheridan book on NetGalley. I have read several of her other books, and have enjoyed them all.
This book was no exception. I enjoyed the entire story all the way through. I will definitely, recomend this book to to others.
P.S. it doesn't hurt that she is a local author also.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this book!
Soooooo, I have to admit I had a few issues with the story’s execution. The lines between consenting and not consenting were a bit murky at times and that left a bitter taste in my mouth.
I absolutely loved the story and the way it was both quick af and slow burn til the very end. The 😏 scenes? yes! This is literally the first time i’ve ever read this sort of book and actually liked them. And you know why? No cringy dirty talk! Yey, me!
This book would’ve been a 5 star read for me if the lines hadn’t been blurred. I know, contextually, you can gather that it was consensual, but I don’t understand why anyone would write it that way.
I can’t, in good conscience, rate this book any higher.
Plus, everyone loved Archer’s Voice and I actually didn’t, so I was a bit surprised to see how much I liked this one.

Review📚
This was one hell of a book. Ready to go find myself a dragon and be his witch any day of the week. Both the MMC and the FMC come into this fake marriage with some scars and broken hearts. Of course it takes both of them time to realize that they can help heal each other. The part before they realize they are in love is always my absolute favorite. Enemies to lovers all day everyday! The fighting and banter is what I’m all about. I really enjoyed how this relationship played out and the fairytale ending had me swooning! I got emotional at the end and tears definitely pricked my eyes. The writing was great too! Overall, fantastic read.

I absolutely loved this book! I was hooked from the very beginning and didn’t want to put this book down. One of my favourite books I’ve read this year. I’ve read a few of Mia Sheridans books and I have loved them all, they have been all 5/5 star reads. Thank you to Netgalley, Mia Sheridan and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for an advanced copy of this book.
Mia Sheridan has become an author that I will read no matter what! Thanks to some of her previous books I'm hooked. Grayson's Vow was a slower story for me to get through but it still had main character energy and plot! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC for the purpose of this review. I am giving it three stars!
Do not wait to read this book! Words of warning: Be prepared to not be able to put it down, and have tissues handy. You will not be disappointed!
