My Word Against His by Lauren North is an intense psychological thriller and it's very difficult to say much about the story without giving away spoilers .Overall it is a well written plot with unlikeable characters and a lot of secrets , twists and turns to discover that keeps misleading the reader .Highly recommend it to people who love this genre.

I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review

Starting a new book is always thrilling, but when it's by an author I don't know yet it gives me a different vibe. When you read a book by a writer you have read one of their works before, you know more or less what you can expect. Here it's all new, which of course is not a bad thing. It's a bit like leaving an old friend  and getting to know a new one. It's exiting and a bit "scary" at the same time. :)

Can you trust an author? :)  Aha good question. It's very true they like messing with your head, pushing you in one direction and making you believe what they want you to believe. So no, you can not trust them, but on the other hand they always come clean at the end of the book, confessing they tricked you. You cannot be mad at them, can you because they, once again, gave you a very enjoyable read and made you forget about the world for a couple of hours.

At the end of the day, you cannot believe everything they say, but they do it with the best possible intentions: writing a great book, filled with wonderful and sneaky characters, keep you guessing until the bitter end and make your mouth fall open with the revelations.

Let's hope authors keep on doing this so we can keep on being entertained by these word wizards. This author is one of them for sure. I liked the story a lot. 5 stars

Thank you

This talented author has written a cannot put down novel. It reads like nonfiction at times. The characters are realistic, and the story moves quickly. Suspense is apparent in this thriller. Red herrings kept me guessing. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author. I wondered what would happen if the main character had taken a different path in life…wondering what would happen if she had let her son become independent. Life’s choices mandated what happened to her. Maybe or maybe not. I won’t even mention how the ending was. I almost gasped.

A gripping thriller which had me hooked I could not put it down. It is full of twists and turns which I did not see coming.

Celia is a single mum to her 17 year old son Henry. Celia would do anything to protect Henry’s future so when her past comes into her present she will do anything to stop that from getting in the way how far will she go and who will get hurt.

Fantastic story which will have you hooked the ending was great I really wasn’t expecting it. Will definitely be recommending this thriller to everyone.

Omg!! I literally don't even know where to start and to be fair, no review is going to do this masterpiece justice!

It's a domestic noir, a thriller and it's one of those rare books that really does go abo e and beyond to deliver on that premise. It hooks you in immediately and you are just dragged along on this amazing mystery ride.

The tension is built throughout and every page builds that unease. There are so many exceptional twists and turns that you don't see coming but that make perfect sense and that fit in perfectly. The book is so cleverly written and is so layered that it completely engulfs the reader. The writing is so clear that you can taste the fear and the tension. You are right there in every scene with these characters and it's brought to life so vividly and clear.

The characters are unique and original. They're human and flawed. They don't always make the right decisions and they also don't make stupid pointless decisions just to further the plot. Noone is running into the basement when they hear a serial killer down there and such. It was also really easy to get so invested in these characters and to care about what happens to them.

As I said from the start, I won't do justice to just how well written and executed this book is. I read hundreds of thrillers a year and this one is easily in the top 2% of thrillers over come across. It's such a brilliant work of fiction and the perfect example of what all other domestic thrillers aspire to be. This is a must read..... and I don't say that lightly. Its sheer brilliance

Thank you to Lauren North, Net Galley and Bookouture for an ARC of this book!

"My Word Against His" is full of nail-biting suspense that had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning until the very end. There were so many twisty plot points that I never saw coming. The ending, just wow and yikes!

I really enjoyed how complex and flawed the main characters were, they take your emotions on a rollercoaster ride. One minute I was feeling sympathy and compassion and the next I disgusted by their actions, it was intense! You really can't trust anyone, can you?

There is so much I could (and want to) say about the plot but I like to keep my reviews spoiler free with Psychological Thrillers.

I will be pre-ordering a physical book of this one and recommending it frequently -- if you like this genre it should absolutely be on your TBR!

Celia is married to Martin and they have a son named Henry. Celia is a career advisor at a school and helps a student named Luci to plan her future. She also invites Luci over for dinners and to babysit Henry sometimes. But, one day Luci is told something by Martin and then she never wants to return to their house again. Present day, Celia gets a call from Luci after many years and is asked to meet with her. At a red light, Lucie is kidnapped by a boy named Sam that jumps in her car and demands her to drive to Leeds. Celia counts down the hours as she is driving. Her past and present collide in ways she never thought. Will she be able to escape?

MY WORD AGAINST HIS is an incredible story. It's hard not to give away the entire plot so I would suggest to go into this story blind. It's told in past and present timelines and there was just so much happening that I was engrossed! I really liked Luci’s character the most, she was very kind and determined to have a good future. The twists at the end of this book, I did not expect and that's what made me bump my review up to five stars. I highly recommend adding this one to your list if you love unpredictable endings.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I’m speechless, literally lost for words and unsure how any written review will do this book justice. I’m going to give it a go but I’m aware I may come across as rambling because this is a book that is just beyond brilliant!

I adore Lauren North, she is a truly wonderful author and every book gets better and better. With that said, the crown needs polishing because once again we’ve been reminded why this QUEEN is so fabulous.

Mrs N really takes us on a trip to the dark side with My Word Against His. Celia is a particularly unlikeable character from quite early on and I’ve enjoyed her unreliability as I’ve read this one. She comes across as a domineering, overbearing mother- but should we judge characters on surface level details? Sam has been a character I’ve really felt for. Although flawed, hun being set up for actions he’s nothing to do with, made me uncomfortable.

North has had my pulse racing, I’ve been tense and on edge reading this one. I was enthralled and completely hooked from the very beginning of this. There is so much within the plot that could be discussed- but I’m remaining spoiler free in this review. North has cleverly brought together intricate details and given a jaw dropping conclusion.

There is nothing to dislike about this gem. It’s written in such a way, you feel as though you are watching the events play out. That is a real talent of this author. North is able to really take her readers on a journey, spin them around with twists and leave them with a jaw dropping element of surprise.

I’ve read every book by this author. I absolutely one million percent recommend them all. However, this is a strong contender for my favourite. The tension and suspense have hooked me from the beginning and this book I’ve devoured in just one sitting.

There is nothing I can say to show how spectacular this book is. I have loved every second of being lost in the pages of this book. I wish I could experience reading this for the first time all over again. There are no negatives to be said about this. Mrs North has stepped up and delivered with another phenomenal masterpiece.

This is a book that I will definitely be recommending to everyone. I have loved everything about this book. It’s definitely a page turner and worthy of all the praise. A masterpiece from a truly wonderful author.
