THIS BOOK WAS SO FREAKING AWESOME!!!!

I was so confused the whole time, I must admit that.
The whole story got me so confused, I was trying to blame one of the characters and then I understood that I should stop because my theories were not making any sense!
Celia was a hell of a character!!! Her personality?? Oof! Even though she wasn't fully the good guy, I loved her!
And Henry? God. So cool!!

I mean, I've never read a book from Lauren North, but you can bet that I will read more of her books from now on, no exception! I am in love!

This book is amazing! A true 5-star book for sure. I was wowed right from the start and continued to be wowed throughout the book. Every chapter is action packed. Through the first half of the book, I held my breath. I couldn’t believe what was happening! There was a little more explanation beginning in the second half of the book, but then the action comes right back. There are so many twists that I had whiplash from all of them! And that ending! Wow, I didn’t see that coming at all! North skillfully and artfully wrote this so that the reader would be unable to figure out who was the perpetrator and who was the prey. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such talent within this thriller genre. This is 100% a MUST READ thriller novel for all those that even just like thrillers a little bit. You’d be missing out if you don’t read this book when it comes out.

A super suspenseful, thrilling book with so many twists. I did not see all of the twists coming, but they blew me away. I loved how fast paced and tense this was, especially as the secrets unravel throughout the multiple POV's. I kept being so shocked and this was a great psychological thriller I was definitely be checking out more by Lauren North.

A quick and entertaining, if somewhat flawed, read! The premise was interesting with a couple of surprising twists. However, the middle dragged and the ending felt both rushed and not entirely believable. I did enjoy the read though and would try another from this author.

Lauren North, where did you come from?????

While reading suspense thrillers, I usually try to stay one step ahead and have multiple theories about what is to come, or in this case, what already took place. Boy, was I surprised at almost every turn! Seriously, I love how diabolically your mind worked when plotting this novel out. While I figured a couple of things out in advance, it didn't detract from the story at all, and I was still blown away by the ending.
I bow down to the Queen of misdirection and plot twists!!!

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Well worth it!

This book was a ride!! It was a fast paced read- I couldn’t put it down; my favourite kind of books. It had so many twists and some in particular had me so shocked. I loved the past and present timelines. It had a small amount of characters, which was nice as it focused solely on their development. There are just a few details of the book that I’m still curious about after reading.

I highly recommend this for a quick psychological thriller!

Thank you to @bookouture and @netgalley for this advanced copy and for trusting me with an honest review!

I wasn't sure about this book when I started it. It goes between different people and timelines, but the twists kept me reading. I found myself trying to guess where it was going and what had actually happened. I also didn't see the ending coming. So, if you struggle slightly at the start, I recommend you keep reading as once it gets going it speeds up.

Billed as an absolutely gripping psychological thriller where no one is who they seem, that will make your heart pound and your jaw drop and My Word Against His certainly lives up to the hype. After a strong start, the plot kept building the intrigue and I found it hard to put down. Some nice little twists were the icing on the cake. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.

This book is not what I expected. The main characters are flat, the story is farfetched and written like 'staccato'. Not the best of its genre.

Lauren North has a talent in her story telling.

My Word against His is one of those tales where you think yep, I know how this will end but let me tell you that won’t be the case. There are so many twists and turns and a shocking ending.

Can’t wait to read more by Ms. North.

Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.

‘It’s me,’ says the voice on the other end of the line. It’s been thirteen years and I still recognise it. Thirteen years of nothing. Silence. Not even a birthday card. ‘It’s time for you to tell the truth. It’s life or death.’

While Celia hasn't heard from Lucie for thirteen years, she drops everything to go and help her. Only, on her way, Sam jumps into her car, threatening her with a knife and a wild adventure begins.

This was such a unique and original story with a bunch of suspicious characters, including Celia. I did not expect the story to take the direction it did and it definitely kept me guessing. Another enjoyable one.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this gifted review copy.

Firstly, thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the advance digital copy of this book.

This book was gripping and full of twists. Once again like with the authors other books, I had no idea who I should believe and who I should trust.

Celia receives a call from Lucie who she hasn’t heard from in 13 years asking to talk. Thinking Lucie needs her help, Celia agrees to meet with her.

Before she knows what is happening Celia is kidnapped in her car and forced to drive to Leeds. Celia escapes but now we must find out what happened and who did what. I truly didn’t know whose story to believe! I couldn’t wait to read what happens.

The ending was such a shock but believable. I hoped I had been wrong with my guesses!

If you look a book full of suspense then this is for you!

This was such a refreshing read after so many letdowns in the thriller genre lately. North really knows how to give us all the clues we need, but weaved them into the rest of the story in such a way that you’re still guessing until right up to the end. I read this with my sister who also got an ARC copy, and we were back and forth the whole time with different theories, discussing clues, and trying to figure everything out. So often, it ends up that the “twist” at the end of the book is either something so blatantly obvious it cannot under any circumstance count as a twist- or it’s so out of left field it just feels like cheating and is not enjoyable at all. I feel like, after finding everything out in the end, I could re-read this and find everything I needed to come to those conclusions myself. I truly love thrillers that give me all the puzzle pieces and still manage to surprise me with the final picture, and North did this wonderfully.
One other note, this is not a scary suspense thriller, but more of a mystery thriller in that most of the scary things have already happened by the time we enter the story. I wasn’t on the edge of my seat stressed, but I was still on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen, which made it that much more enjoyable of a read.
I definitely will recommend this one, and look forward to reading more from this author!

It's been thirteen years since Lucie, Celia, and Henry were all together. Now they're faced with a secret that they'd kill for, but who has the most to lose?

Celia is a controlling shrew who cannot function without structure,, lists, and schedules. This could be an undiagnosed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder but, whatever it is, she needs to seek help for it.

Henry is your typical seventeen-year-old boy, focused on his studies and determined to go to university to study medicine.

Then there is Sam, who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and is now wrapped up in a murder and kidnapping. Lucie was mere weeks away from fulfilling one of her dreams and it was snatched away from her too soon.

This story had me hooked -- I could not put it down and (minus 40 or so pages) I read it in one sitting.

- Excellent police work, finally! Detective Sato asked the right questions, followed the suitable leads, and didn't back off when the case seemed, "open & shut" -- like in most thrillers.
- The story's pacing was easy to follow and moved quickly, just like a good thriller.
- The characters were all fleshed out, and the descriptiveness of each character made you feel like you can picture them -- you can picture their mannerisms.

Great read! Great thriller! Great story. It kept me on my toes up until the very end. I can usually spot the plot holes and predict the ending but, this one... I did not picture that.

Thank you Net Galley for an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I had a little trouble with getting into this book. It started out a little bit slow for me. It felt like it was worth going farther so I decided I would do that. I am so glad I did because this book has so many twists and turns and you think you have it figured out and another twist happens and another after that one. I was so surprised to the very end ! I’m so glad I stayed with it I didn’t have anything figured out.
I definitely recommend this book if you like psychological thrillers this book is for you .

This was so refreshing after a string of suspense/thrillers that were duds! Sometimes the twist will be out of nowhere and there’s no way to connect it to what we were told earlier in the book, and that just annoys the heck out of me. Everything here made sense and I went back to read earlier chapters for clues along the way, which is a good sign.

My sister and I read this together and were going back and forth with our theories throughout. We were right about a few things, but the author certainly did a good job casting doubt and throwing us off along the way.

While I wouldn’t put this at the top of my absolute favorites list, this was such a nice change from the usual domestic thrillers I’ve been picking up lately. They all seem a bit the same. Highly recommend if you, too, are hungry for something that actually has you theorizing throughout!
