It’s like The Office in a book! You’ve got Layla, Luke and their strange friend Nathan. It’s a really cute story, but omg it’s a slow burn… like a kiss after 90% of the book and that’s just not for me.
Overall, I would say it’s a quick fun read. You learn a lot about their friendship but deep down you want to scream at them and tell them just to talk about what they are feeling.
Oh goodness, this book was absolutely awesome and I had such a hard time putting it down! Loved it so much!
I'm a sucker for a friends to lovers book, but just a heads up that this one is clean. (That's just not my normal type of book.) The book did feel a bit juvenile to me, but I can feel the potential with the author's writing and I bet it'll get better with each cool l book she completes. The book was sweet, and there were definitely moments where I didn't want to put it down, but the end wrapped up in a way that was a bit boring.
Thank you to NetGalley for gifting me a copy of Per My Last Email.
Sadly I did not finish this book. I felt it to be rather slow. I may attempt to read this book in the future, but I have no desire to continue at this time. You know about the love interests very quickly.
Love love loved this book so much!! This was one of the best friends-to-lovers books that I’ve read in a long time. I typically am not a fan of this trope because I feel like it’s all just a bunch of miscommunication but this one was done so well! Layla and Luke were so stinking cute together and their humor and pranks and flirting and pining were so good! And the friendship between Luke, Layla and Nathan was so fun! I’m so excited that this is becoming a series because I need more of all the characters from this book! I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good romcom!!
This was a cute friends to lovers romance! It was a very slow burn with lots of mutual pining. I loved all The Office vibes, and I loved Luke's family. The Star Wars and pop culture references made the story feel fresh and current. I'm excited to read the other books in the series!
3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Per My Last Email was a fun, dual POV, best friends to lovers, workplace romance novel! Luke and Layla have been strictly in the friend zone for 3 years until an oceanside work retreat takes place.
The donuts. The hot sauce. The pranks. Luke always being prepared with her favorite treat!! Chocolate covered pretzels. How well they knew each other. It was the perfect best friends to lovers. Also, no third act break up! Woo hoo!
At times, this story was ***a little TOO soft. I enjoy a little conflict when done properly. But overall, it was a good read!
Nathan was an awesome best friend, to both of them. I am SO excited for Nathan & Calla’s story. I will definitely keep reading the Wells Family series as Juliana Smith keeps writing!
Thank you so much to Juliana Smith for this ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review! I look forward to the rest of the Wells Family series!
Luke and Layla are best friends. Meeting at their less than desirable jobs at West oak Publishing. Layla started at West Oak as a placeholder position until she could publish her own novel. An avid star wars lover and prankster of all sorts, she is a genuinely kind and playful person. Luke started at West Oak at the recommendation from his friend Nathan. With dreams of opening his own bar one day, he decided to take the position out of fear of following those dreams. Little did they know West Oak would bloom the most precious friendship.
Per My Last Email has so much witty banter, I love every bit of it. I found myself laughing through most of the book. Definitely a slow burn romance with a dual POV. You get the feelings behind both main characters, which is a favorite of mine. Ever have that one work best friend who you could tell anything to and know that everyday is better with them in it? The work friend who you can laugh, joke, and be yourself with? The one that might be the only reason you are still employed there? This is that with years of pent up feelings for each other.
Such a treat to watch these two go back and forth for years and watch as their love for each other blooms into something so sweet. A great romance novel. Juliana always writes great books!
Thanks to the author for providing me with a free e-ARC of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
When I heard that this book has ‘The Office’ vibes, I was immediately sold. Add in the fact that there’s no third-act breakup, and I knew it was a match made in heaven.
Per My Last email follows Luke and Layla, two best friends who work together and have been in love with each other for the past three years. It definitely gave me Jim and Pam vibes (yay!) and the angst and mutual pining was top-notch.
I can honestly say that this was one of the sweetest romances I’ve read, and I absolutely flew through it. As much as I adored it, though, it’s not a new favourite. Everything felt super low-stakes for me, and while I appreciated that there wasn’t a third-act breakup, I had hoped there would be a bit more conflict towards the end.
I also feel like Luke and Layla were not subtle about their feelings AT ALL so there was no reason for them to wait this long to get together (aside from the bit of miscommunication that takes place at the start of the book).
None of these things are major issues, but they did slightly take away from my enjoyment of the book. Nonetheless, it was a lovely romance that gave me the warm and fuzzies, coupled with a delightful cast of character – except Janise. No one likes you, Janise (iykyk) ;)

Luke and Layla are at an impasse. They both harbour feelings towards one other, both are unwilling to act on the attraction as they fear it would break up their friendship.
I loved the synopsis and the setting of the book. An editorial staff always provides entertainment when it comes to settings, and this one gave me a bit of The Office vibes.
This being said, as much as I liked the trio's friendship dynamic I did not really enjoy the romance-side of things.
It may be my own taste that doesn't fit to the narration of the book, it may be that I just wasn't on the same wavelenght as the author or just some spark went missing.

LATE ARC Review - Released May 2 , 2023
Synopsis-
Layla Wright fit in her role as admin at West Oak Publishing about as well as she would at a five star restaurant in her ‘I love DILFS T-shirt’. When she applied to the job she thought she would be learning the ins and outs of the industry to eventually write and publish her own novel. But after years of staying in this same position, she’s unsure of how to break out of her routine and chase her dreams.
Luke Wells knows the words “friend zone” all too well. Staying in a dead-end position at a company he doesn’t care for only has one bonus: Layla Wright. He may hate his job just as much as she does, but she’s the one thing he’s not willing to lose. When Luke finds out he’s up for a promotion, he has to decide how far he’s willing to go to stay close to Layla. With his own dreams of running a bar on the line, is Layla really worth sticking around for—especially when she’s never indicated there will be anything more between them than friendship?
A seaside work conference is just what they need to shake things up and break them out of this tight bubble they’ve been living in for so long. Will they finally be brave enough to go for what they want or will they return home with everything between them unchanged? Boundaries get crossed, lines get blurred, and donuts get eaten.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
Juliana Smith has now become one of my favorite rom com authors and I truly can't wait to see what else she has in store. This was an adorable friends-to-lovers and I found Luke and Layla to be quirky and charming!
The only complaint I have with the book is how fast the last few chapters move. I'm happy that we got to see how some things progressed, but it also felt like we missed out on so much of their HEA. I really hope that we will see Luke and Layla pop up a bit in the rest of the Wells Family series.
I really loved this book. I really loved the mix between the office romance and the vacation vibes of this book. Both characters were really great and I recommend this book a lot.

Unfortunately, this book had very few redeeming qualities. Full of references to how “tiny” and “small” the FMC is, multiple mentions of how she’s “different from other girls,” and a dumbass MMC, toxic workplace, and stupid best friends… I really thought this was written by a straight man and I mean that as a HEAVY insult lol. I would not recommend in the slightest!
3.5 stars!

This was actually pretty cute!! I really liked our main characters and even the side characters and who doesn’t love dual povs in books?? It was so easy to read and it caught my attention right away!! I can’t wait to read the next book in the Wells family series.
Thank you to netgalley for this eArc in exchange for my review!!

Luke and Layla has been best friends since almost day one at West Oak Publishing. But each has actually been hoping for more. Perhaps the upcoming corporate retreat will be a good chance to spend time together and see if there is more to their friendship?
.
This was a sweet and cute romcom. I loved Luke’s family and am excited that this book states “Wells Family #1” in Goodreads. I need me some more Wells Family stories.
I also loved how big of a Star Wars nerd Layla was, she was an endearing character.
I love a good “we were friends first” storyline and this story definitely has that.

Little to no steam, for the steamy fans.
this was just what I needed!a perfect fluffy romance for this spring. I loved the title and the characters. the plot was fast paced and kept my attention.
This book is a piece of caramel slice, with vanilla bean ice cream, topped with grated white chocolate and a sprinkle of nuts.
It is so incredibly sweet, but with a hint of something a bit quirky.
Luke and Layla are adorable. This book is all about the anticipation and the chemistry. The inside jokes, the nicknames, the pranks – A+
The writing kept me interested with excellent banter from the main characters as well as side characters, many laugh out loud moments alongside all of the heartwarming scenes that made me swoon.
I can’t wait to read Nathan and Calla’s story next!
This is kind of like if Pam and Dwight from The Office switched places; lots of office pranks between friends who become lovers. I liked the workplace romance at play here; it really fired up the tension between Luke and Layla. I'm also excited to see Nathan's story is coming in the fall!
I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.
