"The Silent Wife" by Ruth Harrow is a chilling psychological thriller that will keep you on edge from start to finish. The story follows James, a bewildered husband whose pregnant wife, Sarah, vanishes without a trace. As he desperately tries to find her and get their perfect life back on track, he discovers that Sarah may have been hiding a terrible secret.
But it's Sarah's sister, Kate, who is truly determined to get to the bottom of things. As she digs for answers, she realizes that her every move is being watched, and that someone out there will stop at nothing to keep their deadly secrets hidden. With a killer twist that will leave you reeling, "The Silent Wife" is perfect for fans of chilling thrillers like Freida McFadden, K.L Slater, and Daniel Hurst. This book is sure to keep you thinking long after you turn the final page.
Pregnant and living an Insta-perfect lifestyle, Sarah seems to have it all. But one evening halfway through making dinner, she vanishes into thin air leaving behind her keys, her handbag and James, her bewildered husband.
The pans are boiling over and the smoke alarm is screaming, but he is alone in the house.
Keen to get their picture-perfect life back on track before their followers start wondering where his wife is, James desperately tries to find her.
But her sister Kate is the only one who knows Sarah has run like this before. And she's terrified for her sibling and for the unborn child she is carrying.
The more Kate digs for answers, the more questions she has about her sister’s life – it seems Sarah may have been hiding a terrible secret. Even more worrying, Kate is now having her every move watched.
Someone out there wants their deadly secrets to remain hidden. How far will they go to make sure those secrets stay buried?
A chilling thriller of a read. Really enjoyed the layers to this story. Perfectly written. Will recommend to others.
Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.
The Silent Wife by Ruth Harrow was good, but it was weird how the characters were connected, and that gave me pause while I was reading.
Anne was a frustrating character (as I'm sure the author meant her to be), she was abrasive.
I loved the sentiment of how a person can lose control of their life one piece at a time and it doesn't happen all at once. There were many interweaving parts to the story, and it was hard to know what was true and what wasn't. Oh, and the ending!! Yikes.
A good read. I would rate this a 3.75 out of 5 (rounded to 4).

When Kate’s sister Sarah vanishes after recently announcing her pregnancy, Kate must try to find her. However, as she searches for her sister, she might be putting her own life at risk.
A decent thriller, although not my favorite. I also think sister should’ve been in the title since we're really mostly in Kate’s perspective, not Sarah’s husband’s (for wife in the title).

Kate’s sister, Sarah, disappears in the middle of making dinner. Kate is left to wonder why her sister and brother in law’s seemingly perfect, on Instagram, life has become quite the opposite.
Distraught James, Sarah’s husband, and Kate learn where Kate is and who she’s with-an ex boyfriend who is not a good person.
Meanwhile Kate and husband, Chris, are struggling with their relationship.
Kate realizes, almost too late, why Sarah had to leave James. It could cost her her life.
I liked the beginning of this novel, but it became somewhat choppy for me as it continued. I was really, really irked by the overuse of the word ’whilst’ in every chapter, sometimes more than twice. An editor should have caught that in my humble opinion. The characters were all a bit weak.
Thank you

I give this book 2 stars. I kept hoping it would get better; that at some point the plot twist would appear and redeem my review…and it just didn’t.
All of the characters mentioned in the book were just ridiculous. Kate was oblivious, and had a weak personality. There is no reason she could not or should not have looked for another job with the way her MIL was treating her; she needed to stop avoiding her husband and force him to have talk with her; and she became way too obsessed with finding her sister - and her sister’s husband. Cheating is never okay, even more when it’s done with your sibling’s partner. She was so willing to believe everything that James (who was a stranger to her up until her sister went missing) says, without question - even to the point of questioning the man she’s married to. Just really hard to like her in any capacity.
Sarah was hard to like; she appeared to be flighty, irresponsible, and over-the-top. All of these characteristics were likely increased by her use of ketamine, which is also not something you can just quit. She came through in the end for her sister, but still was not a likable character.
Chris was weak, and used his own guilt to throw suspicion on his wife cheating. He needs to grow up and learn how to tell his mother to stand on her own two feet - he is her son, not her husband.
James: how everyone did not see he was a narcissist from the beginning, I’m not sure. He gave me the creeps from the beginning, and it was not hard to tell that he was involved somehow..
The book felt very choppy, and was hard to get invested in. I thought the premise of the story was interesting, but it just didn’t connect with me. Overall, I was disappointed.

This was a good thriller in my opinion. I felt "sucked in" to the book and wanted to get through it. The suspense was there throughout. I would certainly recommend this book and look forward to reading others from this author.
Kate’s sister, Sara, seems to have the perfect life - huge house, wealthy husband, and a baby on the way. Why then does she go missing in the middle of preparing dinner? Kate and Sara’s husband, James, join together to try and find Sara. Kate knows all of Sara’s past and knows she has disappeared before. While all this is happening, Kate is also trying to deal with problems in her own life, from feeling distance growing between herself and her husband, her job frustrations, her mother-in-law controlling everything in her life (since she is her boss and landlord and has Chris, Kate’s husband, on constant call do do her errands and help her fix things). The characters are somewhat interesting, but I felt I could have used more background as to how the characters arrived at this point in their lives. Kate’s decisions didn’t always make a lot of sense, especially if she is trying to work on her marriage. There is a lot of mystery in regards to her missing sister. I don’t want to give anything away, so I will say I did enjoy this book, but I also was a bit let down in the end, it was somewhat predictable. I would give the book 3 stars out of 5.

A fantastic thriller! The perfect amount of suspense from start to finish. A very quick read that grasped me so hard I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read more from Ruth!

This was a thoroughly enjoyable book . Plenty of suspense and great characters. . It had just the right amount of tension from start to finish. . I would highly recommend this book and will be looking for more books from this author. 5 stars from me
The Silent Wife is a domestic thriller that leaves you guessing until the end.
Kate’s sister Sarah walks out of her home whilst cooking dinner one evening and is nowhere to be found. Sarah’s husband, James and Kate begin the search for her unsure of whether she has walked away herself or if something more sinister has occurred. The question is, what could a woman who seemingly has the perfect life possibly be running away from?
I found The Silent Wife to be an enjoyable read, the twists in the storyline kept me from guessing the ending even though I thought I had it all wrapped up.
I would have loved to have had more background on some of the characters and their situations, like Kate and her mother in law, and her best friend. I think this could have made some revelations more shocking. This may have also prevented me from having such a dislike for all Kates’ ridiculous decisions, my frustration with her was so high at times!
This book was pretty good. None of the characters were favorites, but it still was good, fast reading. Will definitely recommend.
Thank to netgalley, the publisher and author for the chance to read this advanced copy.
I requested to read this book because someone whose reviews I trust read it so I thought I would. I didn’t end up liking it. I’m not even sure why I finished the entire thing. Some parts of it were ok I guess but I was bored to tears for some reason. It was so over the top with cliches.
A fast paced twisty, turning read! This is a very engaging mystery story that is very engaging. The plot was well developed as were the characters. The ending was intriguing, I’m still thinking about it. I am sad the mother in law didn’t get any justice handed to her but can’t have it all!
I have mixed feelings about this book. Some parts and events were good - good pacing and some of the events were interesting and well told. However, other parts just weren't doing it for me. All of the characters had such negative qualities that I was finding it very hard to care much after they just continued to make stupid choice after stupid choice. In parts, it felt like too little time passed (with no real good cues to give the reader a sense of timeline), which led to a feeling that some events were way too fast to be in any way realistic. In addition, the repetition of certain things (for example, it seemed like an excessive number of times the "12 year marriage" was mentioned, and at the beginning the hints of Sarah's past seemed less like hints and more like being clubbed over the head that she had previous issues) was tiring.
Overall, however, the book was a decent read.

There are parts that are quite predictable, but it didn't stop my enjoyment of the book. Once I started reading, I could not put it down. Filled with secrets being revealed and some things you don't see coming, I was fully invested in this story. The pace is steady, and the characters are well rounded. This was another quick and easy read.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #InkubatorBooks and the author #RuthHarrow for my ARC of #TheSilentWife in exchange for an honest review.
Captivating. Reeling. Couldn't put it down. Obsession and stalking with so many shocking twists my head was spinning! A must read for lovers of psychological thrillers.
What a storyline! So many twists and turns, the ending was brilliant. I couldn’t put this one down. The characters were good, I really liked all of them. Obsession, crime and stalking all rolled into one. I recommend this one.
I am unfamiliar with this author, but requested this ARC as I am a sucker for mysteries where people vanish into thin air.
This is exactly what this novel is. Kate’s sister Sarah vanishes whilst cooking the dinner. We know she is alive she left a message on her sister’s voicemail but we have no idea where she went or why.
What emerges is a reasonably paced novel where secrets are exposed and Kate finds herself in a situation where she has to fight for her life. There are a fair few twists but some of the threads I found very unlikely. I suspected the truth about Kate’s marriage but for her to move along straight away to another relationship I found unlikely. I also found James very cliched but I was sitting at the end thinking maybe this was not all that I thought it was.
Decent thriller and I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
