The silent Wife by Ruth Harrow is one of the books that can be placed in the unputdownable category!
There's never a dull moment or a breather and the author has maintained such a great pace with the narrative that one has the urge to turn just one more page and before you know you're reading straight through!
If you love psychological thrillers, this is one book that can't be missed!
I am unfamiliar with this author, but requested this ARC as I am a sucker for mysteries where people vanish into thin air.
This is exactly what this novel is. Kate’s sister Sarah vanishes whilst cooking the dinner. We know she is alive she left a message on her sister’s voicemail but we have no idea where she went or why.
What emerges is a reasonably paced novel where secrets are exposed and Kate finds herself in a situation where she has to fight for her life. There are a fair few twists but some of the threads I found very unlikely. I suspected the truth about Kate’s marriage but for her to move along straight away to another relationship I found unlikely. I also found James very cliched but I was sitting at the end thinking maybe this was not all that I thought it was.
Decent thriller and I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Sarah disappears in the middle of cooking dinner. Her sister, Kate, receives a phone call from her but is unable to answer whilst driving, and the voice mail sounds ominous.
Sarah's husband, James, is frantic with worry, and Kate tries to help him find Sarah, but she is in the middle of a marital crisis as well.
Kate's search for answers leads her back and forth from the present to the past. She has to unravel the lies from the truth.
All in all, a very good, fast paced book, with many twists and red herrings. You never know exactly what is going on in someone else's life.
The reader is kept guessing about Sarah's disappearance, and other mysteries that are intertwined in the main plot.
I just cannot understand why the police didn't get more involved, why was the search and sleuthing left to the family members?
I did, however, guess the truth about Kate's husband. He is a weak person, and should man up against his mother.
Kate seems like a caring and trusting soul, and did not deserve the treatment she got from any of the other characters in the book.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Ruth Harrow is a new-to-me author and I really must read her other books!! This one was action packed and had me guessing from the very first page. Sarah goes missing one day after calling her sister and leaves her a voicemail on her phone. James has no idea where Sarah has gone. It did run out of steam towards the middle but picked back up. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. To be published May 2023.
Very interesting read, once I stared I could put it down. This was my first book that I've read of Ruth Harrows and it definitely won't be the last.
The plot was thrilling and not too predictable like other books can be nowadays.
2.5 half starts rounded up
Katie's sister, Sarah, has everything. The perfect life, an amazing husband, a beautiful home and even a baby on the way! Until one day she wanishes without a trace. Katie teams up with Sarah's husband, James, to try and find her sister.
Oh, man! This book started off so well. The pacing was good, the descriptions absolutely brilliant, and Katie's life and problems were quite interesting.
Unfortunately it literally had every single cliché you can think of in a domestic thriller. There were a fair few twists but none of them were a slightest bit surprising and I could guess them way before they got revealed. It was really disappointing as I was hoping that there would be at least one original, and somewhat shocking surprise, but unfortunately that didn't happen. I also lost sympathy for all the characters about half way through, and at that point, I didn't really care what was going to happen to them.
Despite the issues mentioned above, I wouldn't say it was a bad read at all, as it kept my attention, but I wouldn't recommend it to more "experienced" fans of this genre.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to access a copy of this book in exchang for an honest review.
I've never read anything by this author, but I'm interested in checking out other books! For the most part, the pace is quite active, though it does have a few lulls. There are numerous twists, and the writing easily pulls the reader in. The ending was a surprise, which I loved!
Another author discovered on Netgalley - thanks. There was a good, intriguing build up within this book and it was good to see how things developed.
This book was a fun read, but very predictable. It was interesting and kept me engaged but it was obvious what was going on for the most part. Still worth the read though.
I was in a reading slump. Decided to give this book a try and I was hooked! A few twists and loved the ending!
Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of The Silent Wife by Ruth Harrow. I enjoyed this start of the book about two sisters Mate and Sarah..Sarah pregnant suddenly leaves her home while she is cooking dinner. Sarah’s husband James is frantic, and enlists Kate to try to find her. However as the plot progressed, I began to dislike the characters and their stupid choices. I wanted to like this book, but it was an “eh”for me.
Thank you to Inkubator Books and NetGalley for this ARC!
When Kate finds out her sister Sarah has disappeared in the middle of cooking dinner, she is determined to figure out where she has gone and why. Her brother in law James just wants his wife to come home. But as the two of them work to find Sarah, James continues to lie more, and Kate starts to have more and more questions about what she thought was her sisters picture perfect life. Secrets continue to come out and we learn that relationships are not always what they seem in photographs.
I was immediately hooked on this book and loved how many twists and turns popped up throughout. The plot had multiple layers and directions that kept me engaged and wanting to keep reading to see how it all unfolded. The character development, especially for the sisters and James, was extremely well done and made me feel more connected and invested in their storylines. This was my first book by Ruth Harrow but it certainly won’t be my last!
Good book! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, gas lighting, jealousy, and a great who done it! It took me a bit to figure it out but early on I kept thinking there's something wrong with that character! Lol this was a great read! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
This is a good one! Sort of obvious where the story was going but I do feel it was well developed and thought out. Ketamine is very popular in my area right now so I felt this story was right on time with what is currently happening around me.
Ruth Harrow developed good characters. There were a few plot holes unexplained such as the man in the silver jaguar from the very beginning that was behind Kate then parked in the same parking garage watching her eat.
Mentioning an awful monster in law felt personal to me as I have one of those.
An amazing psychological thriller with twists that keep on coming. This was a really easy read, the writing just floes and sucks you into the story, with you needing to know what happens next. I was kind of reminded of "Gone Girl" whilst reading this but this was unique in its own way with loads of different secrets being reveals and things you don't see coming. I was shocked by the ending and will be checking out more of this authors works.
This was a really good psychological thriller with unpredictable twists. I was immersed on the first page and didn't look up again until several hours later as I was finishing it. I have read one other Ruth Harrow book and enjoyed that as well. Thank you Inkubator books and NetGalley for this ARC!
This was an excellent psychological thriller which had me gripped from start to finish.
Kate and her sister are not as close as they once were but when Kate misses a call from her sister she rushes to her house. What she finds is her husband who has just realised that is wife has left the house with dinner left on. Kate needs to find out what has happened to her sister while also dealing with her own troubles in her marriage. This was a gripping story which will have you hooked. Will definitely be recommending this to everyone who likes a gripping thriller with fantastic twists.
My first from this author! This was a fun, light read if you love a good domestic thriller. Will definitely be checking out her backlist now!
I am always pleased to read a new Ruth Harrow novel. A brilliant idea of. Seemingly content wife who suddenly disappears without a trace in the middle of cooking dinner. I was invested in the story right from the start and intrigued to see where the story would lead.
For me, it ran out of steam a little bit and as revelations were revealed and the plot evolved, it lost a little of the early originality.
Still a decent read though and I look forward to this author’s next novel.
Thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for providing me with an Advance Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
