Libby and Kerr were such an unexpected, yet delightful couple that never should have been! He was asked to essentially “babysit” Libby for three of his gentleman friends, all in the same night, while they handled other affairs, whether business or pleasure, and kept her as a potential lady in waiting for their hand in marriage. How romantic, right? Yeah, right...but Kerr is anything but a good babysitter, and the sparks that fly from the start to everything to keep your heart in the right place while story unfolds. You can’t help but root for “the last lord standing” to be Kerr, scandalous talk be darned. It just goes to show you, never judge a book by its cover, nor the attractiveness of a person by a lack of title!
The Last Lord Standing by Diana Lloyd is a fabulous story! This author is new to me but I will be quickly looking for more stories from her. I love historical romances featuring highly unrepentant rogues that become completely enamored by the right lady. What makes this book even better is the scheming between rogues and unwitting ladies that led to a fun romance between two unlikely people.
Always the rogue and never the gentleman, Kerrigan Northam doesn’t worry about anything beyond his own pleasures. Lady Olivia Liberty Chalford is averse to the very idea of marriage. Why be auctioned off when she has a far more enticing—if scandalously modern—plan for her future? When these two team up and pretend to court it’s the perfect ruse. Libby gets a secret accomplice and Kerr’s in the uniquely coveted position of being able to kiss the comely, spirited Libby as thoroughly—and as often—as possible. But as their courting charade continues, Kerr’s gone from wondering how long until she discovers his secret…to how long until he’s madly in love with her.
Loved this story from beginning to end and can’t wait to read more from Diana Lloyd!

When two people are feeling some pressure of duty around the marriage mart, it makes perfects sense that they will decide to enter into a fake courting relationship, because there is absolutely no chance they will fall in love! Diana Lloyd takes this premise and lays out a charming and delightful, quick read romance, that any historical romance lover is sure to enjoy. The Last Lord Standing, is the third book in the series What Happens in the Ballroom, when I originally gravitated to this book I did not realize it was part of an interconnected world. Overall, this book can be read as a standalone but it does weave in and around the other books in the series, and I did not find this to be a deterrent. Lloyds writing is quick pace, has a delightful and crisp tone, and really charmingly places us into the story and character's lives. I loved the balance of Kerr, the hero, and Libby, the heroine, they both have a touch of mischief about them the not only creates the perfect melding of misunderstanding and assumptions to grow, but also gives them an understanding and relatability towards the other.
If you like a fun story, that is well paced, and twists the are results of lies and misunderstandings, but has a lovely HEA, then this novel is definitely one you should check out and one that I would recommend!
This was my first book by Diana Lloyd and it won’t be my last — now I want to read the others in the series (though the stand alone very well)! I enjoyed this story of Libby and Kerr — meeting at a ball, the intrigue of Kerr’s friends requests, the mystery ask Libby had so that she could research for her charity, more drama and intrigue…it was a fun read!
There are a few non-typical aspects to this regency, and also maybe a few too many things happening in the plot. I was a bit shocked by the stolen kisses IN PUBLIC with a new acquaintance. Felt incredibly improbable. The sudden attack by Lord Snodgrass on the daughter of an Earl at the theater with no preamble? Also didn’t seem to fit. Libby’s fathers reaction to “The truth” ? Also not as expected. Yet, it just made me want to read more. All in all, a good read!
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.
This is a Regency romance about a young Society debutante, Lady Olivia (also known as Libby) the privileged daughter of an Earl, who wants to be more than what is expected of her, to wed well and be the wife of a peer. She has secret plans to act on before she has to wed.
Unbeknownst to her, Libby has been targeted by three peers as a likely prospect for marriage, for various selfish reasons. None of the three men know of each others plans, but are unable to engage in a tradition courtship for various reasons... and for that matter, none of them actually care for her other than to marry a woman of fortune, status, and breeding, they each engage the services of their friend, Kerrigan Northam, to keep an eye on their target, and keep others away. Kerr is an untitled second son of a second son who sits on the edges of Society at loose ends, and has the reputation of being England's greatest liar for his grand and exaggerated tales for the entertainment of others.
Kerr made the acquaintance of Libby, by pure accidental chance, which lead to his friends thinking he knows her. He takes up the offer, not so much for the good of his friends, but because he is intrigued by Libby and would like to spend more time with her. Libby likes Kerr, and would like to be friends... with benefits. Including using him to further her secret plans.
As Kerr and Libby spend more time together, they grow to like each other very much. But then Kerr's circumstances change, and secrets he had been keeping from Libby come out, hurting her and casting the nature of their relationship into question. But when Kerr and Libby are faced with danger, the truth of their feelings are shown to each other.
A decent historical romance, but nothing outstanding. I found I did not connect with the story and characters. I found Libby to be a bit naive and perhaps a bit too coddled. She was very fixated on her grand and secret plan, and not listening to others. There was a lot of emphasis on Kerr as the "greatest liar" that felt quite exaggerated, and a bit out of place and forced to push the story a bit.
3.25 stars outof 5
A delightful tale!
Filled with touches of humor and modern sentiments, this romance was a fun read. There is a lot going on in the story and the plot never slow down.
I did enjoy the fact that there wasn't much angst between the couple.
If you enjoy a little bit more modern of a Regency romance, with slight steam, I would recommend this book!

Always the rogue and never the gentleman, Kerrigan Northam doesn’t worry about anything beyond his own pleasures. But lately, his noble friends have been considering marriage—specifically, the charms (and generous fortune) of the refreshingly pert Lady Olivia Liberty Chalford. Now they want Kerr to keep her from considering any other eligible suitors…by courting her himself!
Libby is averse to the very idea of marriage. Why be auctioned off when she has a far more enticing—if scandalously modern—plan for her future? So when she’s rescued by a wickedly dashing gentleman who claims to be something of a scoundrel, Libby thinks she’s found the perfect partner in crime…
It’s the perfect ruse.
I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I had a hard time getting through this one. This was hard to finish. The girl was just annoying. I just wasn’t a fan of this. I finally got through it but just not in love.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me a copy of this book in return for my honest opinions.
Just loved this quick light romance
I loved escaping into the characters world
The descriptions, setting and story line were written perfectly.
Recommend for some nice light reading.
Diana Lloyd writes funny romantic historical romances with great characters! The Last Lord Standing doesn't disappoint. Thank you to net galley and the author for allowing me to read and review. Can t wait to continue to read more by this author.
I enjoyed this book, it was sweet. The hero, Kerrigan, is asked to spy/look out for Lady Libby who he has that very day met, danced with and kissed (in a slightly hard to believe, IN a ballroom, kiss??!). Three of his friends are looking to court Libby but after not very much time at all... this seems to be an increasingly unlikely outcome, the closer Libby and Kerrigan get
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
This was enjoyable, both leads had charm and good chemistry. And I liked the other characters as well
Kerrington Northham is known as England's greatest lair. He is a liar by omission. Kerr is asked by three friends to keep an eye on Olivia Chalford and discourage any one from asking for her hand in marriage, while they are out of town. This puts Kerr in an awkward position when finds himself falling for the lady. Afraid of telling her the truth, he could lose her affection. It's not easy for Kerr to admit his lies to Olivia, until his unhinged cousin Charlie puts Olivia in danger. Olivia and Kerr have a complicated, long, relationship which contributes to a slow pace reading the book.
Heat level 2.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
This book serves with the he falls first and hard, they meet and as a part of a plan to avoid suitors, they have this fake courtship, but he falls in love with her and omg it joehghfhsohg, i loved it.
The characters are so good together.
I loved reading this story, it took me a minute to realize that Libby's parents are from another book in this series. So there's that. Libby is a little naive in her planning but I like her need to help the less fortunate. While Kerr falls for her even though he can't be with her.
Kerrigan is approached by three friends at the birthday party of Lady Olivia, all asking him to keep an eye on her and other possible suitors away. Each explaining that with his charm he'll be able to get close to her with her family's approval.
Libby does not want to be married off. She'd much rather devote herself to charity work. When she and Kerrigan bump into each other at her party, she thinks she's found the perfect partner to help her with her scheme.
It's perfect, Libby gets an accomplice and Kerr gets to spend time with the woman who kissed him. But as they continue to spend time together, Kerr begins to realize that the thought of her with someone else just doesn't sit right with him. He's falling in love with her but will she be able to forgive his deception?
Thank you to the author, Entangled and NetGalley for this ARC to review.
The third installment of its series, The Last Lord Standing can be enjoyed as a standalone, though some nuances are better enjoyed with knowledge from the previous books. Overall, the novel has all the ingredients to make a good read. There is a nice blend of narrative and romance without one overtaking the other. The romance itself feels natural rather than forced with adorable and sexy shenanigans that drive the story. The dialogue is also well written with each characters’ personalities shining through.
That being said, there isn’t much else to say about the book as a whole. Despite being well written, there is nothing groundbreaking or spectacular to make it stand out. While the story itself is both interesting and amusing, the novel feels like one readers have read countless times before. That’s not to say it’s a bad thing. In fact, this is a perfect addition to any fan of the historical romance genre. It checks all of the boxes from likable characters to a root-worthy romance, from tasteful love scenes to an entertaining story.
It's a beautiful historical romance about two characters you will fall in love with instantly. Libby and Kerr want to make something of their lives and do something for society. A chance meeting at a ball put them in each other's orbit. And something starting as an innocent friendship soon turns into more, much more.
Libby knows she might lose her freedom after marriage. And that's why she is determined to do something before she ties the knot. She wants to live a life that's all hers. When she meets Kerr, he seems perfect for asking for help. He moves in the same social circles as her and yet isn't exactly a part of that circle. And that makes him the ideal candidate to help her reach her goals.
Kerr wants nothing to do with Libby other than help her when she looks dejected by her friend's rejection. But now, he is privy to secrets he doesn't wish to know. And he might be falling for the woman he can never have. She is far above his station in life. Yet, he can't help but be around her. But what will happen when she discovers his secret? And what if he falls madly in love with her? Will they be able to stay friends?
Overall, this is a beautifully written romance and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I think all historical fiction fans will love this book. I highly recommend it.
I enjoyed this book for the most part. I liked the chemistry between the characters and I loved who they were on their own. I loved the writing and the world building was phenomenal as well. I think what I find lacking in the book is the plot, I wasn't so interested in it as I was for the characters to be together. Overall though, I found that I enjoyed the story a lot
Known as a happy go lucky rogue Kerrigan Northman admits to being England's greatest liar. Mischief has a tendency to find people like him.
Lady Olivia Chalford is a very independent young lady. As the youngest daughter of a wealthy, unconventional family she is used to doing what she wants. She knows that will end when she marries, so now is the time to make her mark.
An amusing historical romance filled with mischief and secrets. Wonderful characters that are easy to fall in love with. It is part of a series of stand alone stories. A very entertaining book.
If you love regency romance with a light touch and plenty of humour, The Last Lord Standing will suit nicely. The language isn’t strictly regency but it’s witty and the banter between Libby and Kerr is fabulous. These two just click from the moment they meet, though their path to true love isn’t smoothe. The plot flows well and if everything ties up neatly and just as expected at the end, that didn’t for one minute spoil my enjoyment of this story.
Kerr’s character made this book worth the read. Liberty or Libby as her family calls her. Is a character who wishes to be considered as a strong independent woman who has no plans of wanting to be considered as a spinster. Kerr says, thank God for that.I thought that the two main characters Kerr and Libby hit it off rather well at the begging. The way two joked and laughed at their punch spill I like a lot. This lead me to believe that the book has some humor to it. Libby’s age of twenty two could be a little older for me. Perhaps if she could be twenty four maybe. Or the writer could give the readers a guesstimate age or bring up the age references at all. The story moves freely and is an entertaining page turner. Kerr and his friends brings fun and exciting moments to the romance between Ker and Libby. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
