This didn't really work for me. I ended up skipping around just to get to the story. Too many characters, too many plot lines and too long. I read twelve chapters and we were still being introduced to new characters. The epilogue didn't feel like an epilogue, it was just one more crazy twist that seemed really unnecessary.

Not a bad read but I felt the author could not decide what they were trying to write - a family saga, a mystery or a psychological thriller. The end result was a bit “loose” for me and I found myself skipping ahead to get the the heart of the plot.

Prolific author Ninie Hammon’s latest novel The Gap is a suspense thriller mystery. Centurion Olivia Harrington has gathered all the generations of the family for a funeral. With over thirty family members of various ages gathered together for the weekend, the numerous agendas mean things deteriorate quickly. The matriarch’s announcement sets off bedlam. Then a storm shuts off the electricity and the house is engulfed in flames. The tedium of the narrative was only matched by the unendearing characters and the utter banalities of their lives. An overly long book that lacked any real tension or enjoyment and so it’s a very average two and a half stars read rating. With thanks to Sterling & Stone and the author for an uncorrected proof copy for review purposes. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own and freely given.

I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with this book. It was very slow going and was a little hard to keep track of the characters because there are sooooo many people in that family. I had to keep looking back to see who came from which side of the family and so on. The overall premise of the book was good though. I mean who doesn't love dark family secrets?? I've heard that the author's other works are really good so I will give her another chance.

Very atmospheric. Great characters l, even the unlikable ones. Complicated suspense and good reading. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book

The premise was a good one - and I enjoy a family-style thriller and imagine it'll be a popular genre for a while after the success of Knives Out, etc.
But the family was a little bit too big - I ended up having to sketch out my own family tree to keep track of everything, which wasn't ideal.
A bit too much going on, I think I'd have preferred it without about a third less of the family secrets, which seemed neverending.
I did finish the book, but certainly skimmed the last few chapters just to get to the slightly underwhelming conclusion. Also still a bit bemused at the title..

Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.

A family is gathered together for the funeral of one of its members. But what secrets might emerge?

This one was just ok for me. I’m not sure if making so many of the characters elderly really worked. I think maybe instead of Olivia’s daughter in law’s funeral being the gathering point, it could’ve been like granddaughter-in-law.

This one is a little the book, a lot me...
I had a hard time getting into this one. It's pretty well-written and moves rather quickly, but at times I felt confused. There were a lot of characters and I don't love multiple points of view. I can see how it may appeal to others, but it was not my cup of tea.

This had me up all night trying to finish it because I couldn't put it down! I had to know the ending. It was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Wonderful thriller to be absorbed into.
I just reviewed The Gap by Ninie Hammon. #TheGap #NetGalley

This was intriguing and the setting added to this tale. However, there were a lot of characters and they were not well organized--sudden changes of POV without warning--and I ended up confused too many times. A good editor can sort this out, and they should. This story has great potential.
