The pictures were fun but the story part was completely disjointed and awful. Not something I will read again.
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This wasn't much of a story, but rather just a large group of toads that talk about the things in the STEAM field that interest them and that they'd like to study and become experts in. Even though it's not really a story, it does seem like a pretty good way to get kids interested in the STEAM fields, or even just to encourage them to explore what does interest them.
The illustrations were bold and bright, showing the different areas of interest of the toads throughout. As this wasn't much of a story, I'd probably struggle with reading it multiple times, although if my children were showing particular interest in some of the fields, that might change my feelings on the matter. Overall I give this book 3.78 out of 5 stars.
Went into this children’s book blind and just became very uninterested with how the story was told. There was just way too much information with each frog (for a children’s book; in my opinion). Art style was mediocre.
I read this book with both my 5 year old son and my 11 year old daughter. They both enjoyed it. The 5 year old got lost at times and we started over and in the middle about six times before finishing once. My daughter, on the other hand, finished it right away and loved it. Good story and GREAT illustrations.
Thank you for allowing me a free, advanced copy in exchange for this review.
Let me start by saying that the drawings in this little book are really well done! The little froggies in the pictures are cute and adorable, and their adventures are pictures very beautifully.
Yet the text unfortunately felt somewhat lacking. The story had huge potential, but unfortunately, the execution fell flat.
Toad-Ally Steam, toad-ally fell flat for me. While the illustrations were nice, it isn't enough to hold the book up. The author seemed more concerned with ensuring rhymes than actually having a story line about frogs pursuing their steam passions.. but alas, this book had no flow. When we finished the book and I asked my daughter what we just read about and she said "I seriously don't know."
Thank you to HokeyPoquii LLC and NetGalley for this ARC opportunity.
There's really no other word for this book.....it's weak. A good teacher could perhaps use it as a basis for a "be yourself" lesson, or a "take care of the world around you" lesson, but there's no main theme to the book at all.
I was left disappointed by the half baked attempt at getting the story to rhyme - why bother starting if you're not going to commit?
The illustrations were good though, and did their best to bring life to the characters.
If you can get it from the library, you might be able make it work, but don't spend your own money on it.
I really enjoyed the illustrations and the promotion of STEAM. However, the writing didn't completely work for me and I was confused by how it sometimes rhymed and sometimes did not.
I'm a prek teacher and this was a pretty good book. We are a STEAM campus and this book discussed all kinds of different jobs in the STEAM field. And it explained the different jobs in a simple way.
The illustrations were nice.
Thanks NetGalley for providing my daughter and I think book, in exchange for our thoughts.
The book felt a little disjointed. The rhymes didn’t make much sense, the author just seemed to attempt to rhyme, just for the fun of it. No logic behind the rhymes really.
The really liked the illustrations at first, until the illustrations of children came into factor. It would have been cute if it was just about the frogs. The frogs and kids didn’t flow on the page very well. It looked like an illustration of a kid was done and then a frog was just placed on top.
This one was okay, my daughter didn’t enjoy it that much.
I really don’t like giving negative book reviews but here we are :(
I did not enjoy this book. The author’s writing style is so disjointed. They tried to write in rhyme but only succeeded half of the time. The book did not have a good flow because of this. I thought the storytelling could use a lot of work, because the author did a lot of “telling” not “showing.”
Also the end doesn’t make sense. These little frogs were so excited about school, and then they meet some kids who think frogs and toads are the same and well. That was enough to give up on their life long dreams.
The end.
Not a fan of this one, y’all. But the artwork was nice!
I don't know I guess I couldn't really catch up with the story:( it started very promising with the introduction. And going into the plot, nothing's really happening. I failed to catch what message this story try to convey😭🙏 I think it will be better if the artstyle is consistent.
This book was great fun!
I loved the little lessons in it, be yourself, have manners, dream big.
This was great and the pictures were diverse.
This was a very good book and very cute I would recommend it to my friends it was about how the frogs wanted to be different things the pages and art work was great
Thank you to #Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this children's book. It had many cute lessons. I liked the illustrations, and descriptive vocabulary. I also enjoyed the quiz at the end that would help promote a discussion with students. Definitely will be purchasing to add to my classroom library.
