Gosh this book. It was so much lighter and frothier than I was expecting. Melody and Beat's lives were so intertwined even though they never really met. Their mothers were pot of a famous pop duo with an even more infamous breakup, raised with the impact of the children of famous people. No one really understands what their lives are like, except for Melody and Beat. Brought together when calls for a reunion are too loud to ignore they band together to see if they can get their stubborn moms on board.
Melody and Beat just had me screaming. Both lonely and struggling because of how separate their lives have kept them from everyone else, and just the relief it was to finally meet someone who could relate on every level. These two are just so into the other and there is just zero chill factor. Beat especially. A ridiculously competent calm man, running a charity, cares for his family. But you add Melody into the mix and he just becomes feral unable to handle her hurt for a single moment and just a walking boner. I adored their dynamic as they became friends and just opened up to the other. How Beat compartmentalized every aspect of his life including sexually and had to slowly let Melody in.
Melody was not timid either, she respected Beat's boundaries but also knew what she wanted. She was gone on him, standing up to her mom and just entirely her authentic self. I loved their dynamic, she was not a pushover and this book was just fun. A dash of celebrity scandal, blackmail, and so much sexual tension I was screaming. This was fun and honestly I could see it so easily on my screen.
I also need Danielle and Jospeh to get like a novella or something because their chemistry was palpable and I just want to see that whole story.

I received a free copy of, Wreck the Halls, by Tessa Bailey, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved everything about this book, it was cute and fun. The characters made the love story so enticing. I would read this book multiple time!
Melody is just an ordinary girl, whose mother is a famous rockstar. Melody is offered a lot of money to get her mothers band back together, the lead vocals son, Beat will have to help her. I thought this book was ok, I did not really care for Beat at all, but I liked Melody.
Thanks again! I need a physical copy in my life!! Lol
"Wreck the Halls" opens with us meeting the offspring of the members of the now-defunct rock band, Steel Birds. Beat and Melody have an instant connection and — as two children of famous moths — immediately understand each other in ways no one else can.
The pair reunite years later when Beat is approached by a TV producer who wants to film a reality show attempting to reunite Steel Birds. Both are hesitant after years of squinting from the spotlight, but Beat considers the offer to see Melody again — and the money to pay off his blackmailer.
I've yet to be disappointed by Tessa Bailey. Unfortunately, this holiday romance missed the mark for me. Beat and Melody are adorable, albeit a little farfetched at times. The story is just too unbelievable and even a little cringy at times. All the conflict stems from miscommunication and could easily be rectified with a simple conversation. Also, Beat's "problem" was certainly an interesting choice that I felt didn't add anything to the story.
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Avon for sharing this advance copy with me in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to Avon and Harper Voyager for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! Reading Wreck the Halls at the beginning of summer might not have been the best idea because now I am counting down the days until Christmas. However, Beat and Melody just did not vibe with me. I tried really hard to like that because the plot was so cute. They're descended from two famous music icons and they are tasked with getting their moms back to work together. Something was just missing, though. I could not get into them and I found myself rolling my eyes at them more often than not. I really wish I liked this more than I did.

3.5 ⭐️
I love holiday based books and the cover and the synopsis got me hooked! The book has a witty banter and it's humorous which I enjoyed! I enjoyed Melody's character and her love and passion as a book preservationist. There were moments where I was frustrated with Beat 🥲. I wished the book had more tension development and on the build up of their relationship, I felt like the miscommunication kinda blocked that from happening and there were some cringe moments. But the spice in this book was there there as usual! Like spicyyyyy! The reality show is not usually my fav fav but this one was an alright read!
Thank you Netgalley and Avon amd Harper Voyager, for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!
For Melody Gallard, it had been difficult to grow up as child of a rock legend. Her mother was everything she was not. Melody was quiet, soft-spoken, and preferred to be in the background. Her mother, Trina, was half of the duo, the Steel Birds. They broke up in dramatic fashion before Melody was born. Since that time, people had not stopped hoping they would reunite and or at the bare minimum have a reunion. Melody knew her mother wanted nothing to do with her partner, but the public never lost hope. Melody had gotten to a place in her life where she was content. She loved her work as a book restorer and had a great group of friends. She wished she had a better relationship with her mother, but her mother was a free spirit who flew into her life once a year.
Beat Dawkins was the son the Steel Birds main singer, Octavia. He, too, was frequently asked about the possibility of a Steel Birds reunion. Zero chance was what he told them. His mother left performing and chose to focus on charitable works through the foundation she set up. Beat was an integral part of his family's foundation. He helped find promising musicians who would benefit from additional training and funding from them. For the past five years, Beat had been dealing with a blackmailer who knew a secret about his mother's past. It was one that would devastate their family, so he kept it from his parents. Each time, the blackmailer would ask for more money. Beat always hoped the money he paid would permanently satisfy the blackmailer, but it was not the case. He had used most of his available funds to pay off the man the last time. The latest call had a request for the most money to date. Beat refused to tell his parents or use foundation money. He had no clue where the money for this next payment would come from.
Thirty years later, the Steel Birds last release, Rattle the Cage, was back at the top spot on the Billboard charts. #bringbackSteelBirds trended on social media. Both Melody and Beat were contacted by a TV producer about them getting together to convince their mothers to agree to a reunion. Both of them had received offers like this in the past and ignored them. Beat was desperate. Would Melody be open to it? The offer was for one million dollars apiece. This might be the answer to his prayers.
I enjoyed this novel. I loved the plot and how Tessa Bailey set it up. Melody was my favorite character. I loved her. Her love of refurbishing books because they had played an important part in her teen years was sweet. Beat and Melody's banter was fun to read. You could tell they had much in common being children of celebrities. The main focus of the book was getting Trina and Octavia to reunite. I would have liked a little more content about them in the book. Why did everyone love them so much? More of that, please. I would have liked less about the blackmailer. I thought he contacted Beat way too often about his latest request. I wish Bailey had stretched the timeline from the discussion of the reunion with the producer to the hopeful reunion out more than two weeks. It was a bit much to think a reunion could be accomplished in such a short time. Overall, it was a fun read and I would recommend it. Spice level was around a 3.5/5.
I received an e-ARC for Wreck the Halls and want to thank Tessa Bailey, Avon/Harper Voyager, and NetGalley for the opportunity to voluntarily read and give an honest review of this book. Wreck the Halls will be published on October 3, 2023.
As a reality television lover, I was obviously going to request this book – butttt. I don’t know, it wasn’t my favorite. I found both Beat and Melody insufferable at various moments, and while I did see some chemistry between them, it was never enough for me to like the TOGETHER FOREVER narrative that was happening throughout. It was cute, I imagine it’ll do well, but not my favorite of her’s.
This was such a sweet and wholesome book 😭 there were themes of soul mates, of finding your person and of reunited friendships, and reading this book was so equivalent to a hug 😭
The book follows Melody and Beat as they embark on a nearly impossible journey of reuniting their mothers who famously broke up their band 30 years ago, and all on live tv too. It's immediately obvious to all the viewers (and the producer and the cameraman and the mothers) that Beat and Melody are crushing hard on each other, even while the two of them try their hardest to squish it down. The book had so many hilarious and wholesome moments, and I totally enjoyed bingeing it. It's a perfect holiday read, very Hallmark movie-esque.
For the most part, this book was more fun than angsty (except the last 20%, which had me holding my heart in tears 🥲), and I really love the lighter tone Tessa Bailey has used for a holiday themed book.
The hea was so perfect, I could literally picture the scene being played out as a movie. I really need Tessa to write an epilogue for this book, I NEED to see happy and domestic Beat and Melody, maybe with their moms fondly rolling their eyes nearby 😭
If you're looking for a fun holiday read, do check this one out!
TWs - blackmail, cheating (by a secondary character in the past), celebrities getting mob crowded and facing a lack of privacy, teenage girl being body shamed and hyper scrutinized by media
-- ty to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy!
Melody and Beat are the kids of two estranged female members of a now-defunct but still popular super group (think Fleetwood Mac). When the kids grow up and meet each other in person for the first time, it's instalove. A reality TV producer convinces M&B to try to get their famous mothers back together again. During the course of this, we learn that Beat has two big secrets. Can they be overcome to create a happy ever after for them? I'm not doing this description justice because honestly, this book just bored me. One of Beat's secrets is cringey, as is his super-possessive way of viewing Melody. There was a lot of witty banter, and Melody was somebody I could root for. But Beat needed therapy, not a perfect girlfriend to solve all his problems, and the book just went on forever.
TESSA BAILEY IS EVERYTHING
This book is so cute so far. I always get so happy when I get approved of Tessa's books. And I'm excited for Christmas in JUNE.
This was the forced proximity, instalove, second chance(ish) holiday romance of your dreams. Tessa Bailey is so good at writing chemistry and I always root so hard for the main characters.
I adored the romance between Beat and Melody, but I also really enjoyed the plot with their mothers and getting the band back together. They both had very different relationships with their mothers and I liked watching them learn more about themselves as well as their mothers.
This got me right in the mood for Christmas. I might have to read some more holiday books for Christmas in July.
5/5
I wasn't into the first few chapters, but I'm glad I stuck with it. It was a teensy bit jarring that their romance went from zero to a thousand real quick, but overall I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to Tessa Bailey readers.
I love me a Tessa Bailey book! This one had a bit of Daisy Jones & the Six feel to it! The two main characters, Beat and Melody, are trying to reunite their mothers band. It was funny and had some good spicy scenes.
This is a good, quick, holiday read.
Ugh I am a sucker for Tessa Bailey novels!
This charming holiday read follows Melody and Beat, the children of rock and roll legends, who are trying to reunite their mothers band in time for Christmas! This friends to lovers has a parent trap twist only made more interesting by the dynamic of their rock star parents who just so happen to be arch enemies now.
There were two things that made this book stand out to me, the first being how freaking sweet Beat and Melody were! I love the friends to lovers trope and this was well executed! Seeing Beat open up and be so protective of Mel was one of my favorite things about this story. Together they are the kinds of characters you can’t help but root for and fall in love with over and over again.
The second stand out factor of this book to me was the amazing banter between the mothers. Every scene that Octavia and Trina were in had me snorting and laughing out loud!
Whether you’re looking to experience some holiday coziness or you’re just a fan of feel good romances, this book will meet every expectation and leave you longing for more!
Thank you so so much to NetGalley, Avon/Harper Voyager, and Tessa Bailey for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I normally don’t love holiday romances, but this one worked for me, maybe because it was set in December but didn’t lean super hard into the Christmas theme. I enjoyed Beat and Melody, and I sort of love a love at first sight meet cute. I did find the blackmail stuff sort of exhausting—like, honey, you know this man isn’t going to stop, and your plan is just to keep giving him increasingly large sums of money forever? I also expected something less predictable as the reason the band broke up,
The live aspect of this reality show was ridiculous but I could suspend disbelief enough to go along with it. Overall this was a fun, quick book.
This one was beyond cute and was such an adorable read. One of the author's recent books - Secretly yours was a miss for me but having enjoyed other books by her, I picked this one with fingers crossed and thankfully it delivers as a perfect holiday romance. It was a steamy one without a doubt, so be ready for that. Having seen a pattern among her female MCs, I expected a very quirky female MC but Melody here is simply too cute. Melody and Beat are children of an iconic band duo - Trina and Octavia respectively who broke up like 30 years back. The star-kids are now on a mission to attempt to reunite their mothers for one last time but inadvertently get into a reality show making them overnight stars followed by millions of people.
The mothers were amazing fun and their statements were absolutely hilarious. This falls under instant falling for each other trope which is not really a favorite of mine but this one does sort of work as their unique life experiences and difficult relationships help. As a holiday romance, it did have hot cocoa, skating and Santa all included making it slightly cheesy. This was not simply a romance, as it was also a continuous strategizing for once in a lifetime event and there is another story involving blackmail and who can forget the super popular reality show that everyone was heads and heels over with in the book, so overall, there was a lot of drama along with the cute romance.
I couldn't wait until the holidays to read this one! It's Tessa freaking Bailey and I love her writing! And this story didn't disappoint. I really liked the cozy holiday vibes and of course the romance was everything. I was swooning over Beat Dawkins and I overall had a great time reading this.
As a fan of Tessa Bailey's writing, I definitely had to check this book out. The two main characters, Beat and Melody, are attempting to reunite their mothers band for the holiday. Beat and Melody were very adorable together, and right away readers can see how much they adore each other. Also, dual POV made this book even better! This book was funny, steamy, and perfect for the holidays. Definitely recommend this book for all Tessa Bailey fans and those who love a good holiday romance.
Thank you to Netgalley, Avon Books, Harper Voyage, and Tessa Bailey for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Let’s start by have I said , how much I love Tessa books like omg. She did it again , this book was so amazing, love the characters, the chemistry, the whole journey. Omg it was beyond amazing. This was so far one of the best and is a Christmas in full on hotness. I think between Beat and Melody they melted the whole New York city and I was so here for it. If you love crazy crusades, adorable characters, lots of sexual tension and sex, this is for you and if you want a tender loving story this is for you too. Definitely loved it and will be recommending for like forever.
Sure to be one of the big hits for the holiday season, Wreck the Halls was thoroughly enjoyable. The early 90’s rock band, the nepo-baby problems, and the will they/won’t they is truly prestige.
