Informational and well paced with insights that will apply to any industry. Resources mentioned in audiobook are readily available on the author's website.
This was not really what I thought it was going to be and I DNFed fairly quickly. I did not find this helpful for the kind of work that I am in. Thank you for the review copy.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
A solid member of the C suite gives his very intelligent and interesting advice on how to hire new employees. Very well considered advice, the author discussed issues such as how to hire good people who will fit in well with your company, and how issues (such as how long employees remain at one job, and how to engage new employees) impact your ability to hire and retain the type of people you actually want to work for you.
Great listen for anyone who is looking to hire in this new post-covid environment. I enjoyed the way Dr. Mitchell broke down the hiring logic and process towards finding the right talent for your team.
I loved the foundation of this book - changing the way people think about who they hire, why they hire, and what folks are actually looking for. I loved that the author talked about how it's not so much a workforce shortage so much as a misalignment of employer goals vs employee goals.
As a small business owner, a lot of what was said spoke to me. There were things that aren't necessarily possible to implement for a business as small as mine, or one that requires all employees to be present and on site to get the work done (bakery/ice cream shop), however I found aspects of everything that he spoke of to be valuable.
One critique for the audiobook was that it was a bit hard to follow at times, as there is SO MUCH INFO packed in, so I ended up requesting the ebook as well so that I could link the two. The resources mentioned in the audiobook are not yet up online, so unfortunately I was unable to see those, but having the ebook did give me access to some, though not all, of the diagrams and supplements mentioned. I look forward to seeing those uploaded, and I'll be checking back regularly to see how they are and will update my review after getting those in hand.
This is a game changer! We are currently in the process of hiring at work and have noticed a significant issue with our onboarding processes. This book helped put obvious things into different perspective. The scenario walk through in chapter 4 was a nice eye opener. My on boarding here was like the first scenario and I guess I just forgot that. I am very excited to start using some of the tips in the next month.

Fire Your Hiring Habits provides a wealth of hiring advice relevant in this post-Covid economy. It definitely skews towards corporate culture, but as a small business owner, there were still plenty of useful nuggets to be found.
The audiobook is narrated clearly and concisely by the author, Dr. John W. Mitchell, with links provided to view relevant diagrams online.
Thank you Dr. John W. Mitchell, NetGalley and Advantage Media Group for providing this ALC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.
Fire your Hiring Habits was an excellent audiobook. I especially enjoyed that the author, Dr. John W Mitchell, is the narrator, As the Director of Human Resources in my organization and a SHRM-CP holder, this gave me plenty of ideas on how to make the workplace and the culture more enjoyable. There are a ton of great facts and studies done. Any of the diagrams that are in the actual text are available for download on Dr. John Mitchell's website.
You do not need to be a Human Resources professional to relate to this book. I highly recommend anyone that works in a corporate setting to give this a listen!
