Shadows at Dusk is the second in the Missing in Alaska Series but actually begins in Africa. I was unsure where this story by Elizabeth Goddard was going f but rest assure the story falls completely together before long. With a despicable character that has no limits to how low he will go or how evil he will act this is a nail biting, heart stopping book.

Montana Detective Trevor West and Carrie James are capable, dedicated, skillful main characters who truly are devoted to finding a killer and hopefully a missing sister. I liked them both admired their abilities but mostly appreciated how they looked to God for wisdom and help. And boy, did they need it too.

This is one exciting thriller that has questions as to why God allow somethings to happen. This life does not have all the answers, but this story demonstrates God’s goodness and help. I was especially glad to see Police Chief Autumn Long, from Cold Light of Day, on the scene and still at work in their small Alaskan town.

One excellent story that I highly recommend to all but particularly to those of faith. My only warning is that once you started reading you will not want to put this book down, it is that gripping of a read.

The publisher through Net Galley provided a complimentary digital copy. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, my personal opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

Carrie James is a bush pilot in Alaska. She flies supplies into remote areas. She wasn't always a bush pilot. She worked for a mission in Africa. As she puts it in the book, she was murdered there. She is approached by Detective Trevor West. He is trying to locate his sister who has been missing for a year. Her last reported location was in Alaska. He wants to hire her to fly him around. She says she'll do it for one day as she is going on vacation. The one day stretches into more as it becomes apparent that someone is trying to kill them.

Carrie has trust issues that she is dealing with. Her former boyfriend threw her out of a flying plane. She feel 200 feet. Broke multiple bones and spent months in the hospital. Trevor also has trust issues. His former wife was having an affair with his best friend. He also feels he has let his sister down by not protecting her.

This is not so much a mystery of who the bad guys are. Because I figured that out. It's more of the journey of how it is all resolved. This was a book that kept me reading to get to the end.

I was given this book by Revell Publishing via NetGalley for an honest review. I was not compensated in any wya.

I was looking for an action-packed, page turning, suspenseful novel and that’s exactly what I got. From the very beginning I was fully engaged in the lives of the characters. Detective Trevor West is searching for his missing sister in Alaska. Bush pilot, Carrie James is searching for the person who killed her closet friend.

There is no stopping this duo when they work together although there are many attempts to try. This well written, exciting book had me sitting on the edge of my seat with danger at very turn. I loved everything about this book, the descriptive scenery, the incredible character, and the wonderful pace. Highly recommend.

Carrie James is a local pilot and has been in Alaska for ten years with her closest friend. She finds him dead and knows he was murdered. Detective Trevor West is in Montana searching for his missing sister. She went missing last year, and he now has a new lead in the case.
Trevor asked Carrie to help him with his sisters' case and Carrie wants him to look into her friend's case.
Years ago, in Africia Carrie was pushed from a plane by her fiancé and left for dead. Trevor's sister was in Alaska working on a whistleblower case and never returned.
As they make their search for answers danger is following him at every stop along the way.
This was a great suspense book and I just loved the twist and turns.

There is plenty of action and suspense to draw you in to Shadows at Dusk. Carrie James and Trevor West both have pasts that haunt them and trouble in their immediate future.
It was so interesting to learn about float planes and flying in Alaska.
There is plenty of danger to keep your heart pumping. It was really interesting to read all the intersections the author created for her characters. I can’t really say more other than the bad guy really didn’t seem to have any redeeming qualities.
I have never been to Alaska, but the Missing in Alaska series has me dreaming, although I hope that any visit I make will have less danger.
Thanks to Netgalley and Revell for the opportunity to read this book.

A Real Nail Biter

When a book captures me right from the start, I know it's going to be something special. Such was the case with Shadows at Dusk. It grabbed me from the start and never let up. I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat more than once with the nail biting suspense, action and intrigue. It offered numerous curve balls that kept me guessing all the way through. The budding relationship between Carrie and Trevor was flawlessly blended in with the other elements. No part of the story overshadowed the next making it a perfectly well balanced romantic suspense with an entwined faith message. I highly recommend this gripping nail biter of a story.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. All comments and opinions are voluntary and completely my own.

** “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. Isaiah 43:2” **

Elizabeth Goddard takes us on another action-packed Alaskan adventure in “Shadows at Dusk.”

When bush pilot Carrie James experiences two near-death moments in a 10-year period, she begins to question if someone evil from her past is still looking to harm her.

Detective Trevor West is searching for his sister who went missing a year ago in Alaska. With newly found clues, he travels there to search for her. He quickly seeks help from Carrie to take him around the area, searching for clues to find his sister Jennifer. But as danger finds them around every corner, they begin to wonder if they will solve the mysteries in each of their lives.

Goddard as usual does an amazing job creating a story filled with twists and turns, with both heart-thumping action and romance. She creates relatable characters with flaws but also grit and determination. She reiterates the importance of justice; having faith and trust in one’s self as well as others; and God walks with us through each of our trials.

Fans of authors like Carrie Stuart Parks, Susan May Warren, Lynette Eason, Lisa Harris, Patricia Bradley, Sandra Orchard and Terri Blackstock will truly enjoy “Shadows at Dusk,” which is due out Oct. 17.

Five stars out of five.

Trevor West, police officer, trying to find his sister, Jennifer.

Carrie James, Alaskan bush pilot, trying to help Trevor but also trying to keep herself safe.

A big mystery as to where Jennifer has gone and what she was trying to find information about. How does this tie in with Carrie's past?

So many threads to pull together in this book and a lot of trouble for our two main characters. My heart was in my mouth many times and I loved the setting! Alaska is one place I would dearly love to visit, one day. Maybe not with as many bad guys as there were in this book, though ;)

4.5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Revell.

Alaska. My dream trip. I want to go there to see the wildlife and the beautiful scenery. This would be a dream come true. Detective Trevor West had a different reason for going there. He needed answers. Where was his sister? What was she doing in Alaska?

Trevor hired Bush pilot Carrie James for transportation. He hated to fly even though Carrie was attractive and quite appealing. Little did he know that Carrie herself was in danger.

A fast paced story that never had a dull moment. I loved the story line and enjoyed the spark between Trevor and Carrie.

Shadows at Dusk by Elizabeth Goddard

Carrie James had been deceived by a man she had fallen for. When she discovered that he had betrayed her trust, her heart, she confronted him and he attempted to kill her. He had destroyed her trust for any man. Accept for Isacc who had been a father figure and had helped her to pick up the pieces.
Isacc had taken Carrie to Alaska after that horrible attempt on her life, and with his skill as a mechanic & her flying ability, they worked together and kept their piloting business going strong for the past 10 years. She delivered goods to those who could not get to town and she piloted people when the need arose. The past 10 years have been good.
Detective Trevor West had come to Shadow Gap in search of his sister, to talk with those who may have seen and/or talked to her. She was an activist, tracking down leads to companies who were mining for minerals and the consequences to the earth, &
the areas around the mining sites and how it is destroying those areas. She took samples to have tested. But before she could get the samples out, she disappeared. It has been a year but Trevor had to check all the leads.
Carrie ends up putting her plans for a small getaway on hold when she talks to Trevor. The chief of police had recommended Carrie so she felt she should see what she could help with. As she spent time with him, taking to him the various places on his list, she started to drop some of her walls. A brother trying to find his sister no matter what the outcome is. That touched her. Neither Trevor nor Carrie had any idea what they were about to face together. And the Lord seemed to put them together at just the right time.

This is a great story that has a lot of action and is gripping from the beginning. Ms. Goddard knows how to get your attention and keep it through the entire story. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this launch team.

At the beginning of this book, the author promised a wild ride and cautioned the reader to hold on tight and she was so right! This is an action packed, suspenseful mystery that engaged me from start to finish as it began in Africa and continued to Alaska. The Alaskan setting seems to intensify the danger with the wild, secluded beauty and wildlife. Carrie James and her partner/protector, Isaac, moved to Alaska from Africa and own a flying service around the southeastern part of the state. Detective Trevor West, from Montana, hires Carrie to fly him around the area so that he can investigate his sister's disappearance, based on photos she left for Trevor. But someone doesn't want them to find answers and bad guys seem to be everywhere they go. Then it appears that maybe danger has followed Carrie. Or has it? With twists, turns, danger, and mystery, this is a great addition to the Missing in Alaska series. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys suspense with a touch of romance and faith.

Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love this cover! I was hooked! I'm a lover of beautiful book covers and this one is my favorite by far.
This is a fast paced novel that will have you turning the pages from beginning til the end. Yes, some of it is a nail biting experience too. It's for this reason that I loved this book.
I do have some favorite scenes but I don't want to give them away.
I love that Carrie is a pilot and a good one too. She is my favorite character.
I love her personality and willingness to help others.
Here's a quote that I loved more than anything because it came from the man that I've come to admire and respect just like Carrie does.
“Focus on what you’ve always done, Carrie—caring for others— and you’ll heal on the inside, just like you have on the outside.”
I enjoyed this read so very much! I finished it in one day it was so good!
I feel like Goddard is at her very best here. I do love her books but I think this one will be my favorite!
Here's another quote because it's true but at times I find hard to accept
"Everything happens for a reason it's not ours to ask why."
God does everything in His own timing
Not for us to question Him.
I am giving this book 5 stars for the excellent writing and storytelling.
I highly recommend!
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.

This story is about an Alaskan supply plane pilot who sets out, reluctantly, to help a man find his missing sister. The setting is Alaska, so what's not to love there? The characters are likeable and the plot, intriguing. I really wanted to know what happened to the characters personally, and in their relationship, as well as the solutions to the multiple mysteries, but I quickly became bored with the writing. The two main characters both bring a lot of figurative baggage with them, and they replay the same hurts, losses, and disappointments in their minds over and over until I wanted to slap it out of them. Not being able to do that, I skipped ahead to the last couple of chapters so that I could find out what happened in the end. A more patient reader would probably enjoy this novel more than I did.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I was immediately swept away by the captivating narrative and the well-crafted characters. Carrie and Trevor, the main characters, passionately pursue justice with remarkable resilience mirroring the rugged Alaskan landscape -- finding ways to thrive amidst severe adversity.

Elizabeth Goddard’s writing in “Shadows at Dusk” is a masterclass in crafting atmospheric and suspenseful Christian fiction. She seamlessly weaves the rugged beauty of the Alaskan elements and territory into the intricate emotional landscapes of her characters, creating an impressive novel that is both breathtaking and heart-stirring.

I waited too long to write this review; I admit it. But I did not wait because I didn’t enjoy Shadows at Dusk by Elizabeth Goddard. The second novel in Goddard’s “Missing in Alaska” series is an enjoyable, quick read. Anyone who dives into its pages won’t want to put the book down; I certainly didn’t. The fact I read it in a day proves my point! What Cold Light of Day misses, Shadows at Dusk surpasses tenfold. Close relationships, believable characters, danger, murders—Shadows at Dusk has it all. And yes, of course Goddard mixes a missing person or two into the mix!

Carrie hides in Alaska from her past. Trevor bursts into her routine, concerned about a sister who disappeared in the frigid state a year ago. She’s stubborn and independent, protecting a heart that is not ready for love. That sort of affection isn’t on Trevor’s mind, either, but as a romantic suspense novel, it develops and builds until the end of the book. We see Autumn Long and Grier again, minor characters but still serving the Shadow Gap community—and in turn, Trevor and Carrie. Shadows at Dusk stands alone well, but reading Cold Light of Day would benefit anyone exploring Goddard’s newest series. I say that even if I didn’t much like the first novel. Cold Light of Day just gives readers the background of the town and the characters that give it personality and life.

The relationship build-up between Trevor and Carrie is much better than Cold Light of Day. They fit better, and nothing feels forced. It’s never overwhelming; the characters stay committed to their tasks even when the affections bloom. Shadows at Dusk has everything a romantic suspense reader could want including threatened lives, high stakes, surprises, and…yes, tragic backstories. A heartbreaking past for at least one character seems to be a requirement in any book of the genre.

SPOILER BELOW. STOP READING NOW IF YOU DON’T WANT A PLOT SPOILER.

Something that bugged me to no end, though? Trevor’s sister left him photographs of different landmarks in Alaska. As he’d never been to the state, obviously he didn’t know what they captured. He brings the envelope with him, holding the original photos. The photos with no copies. As soon as the pictures came up, my first thought was, “You better save those images to your phone or something, Trevor. You could lose that envelope.” Surprise, surprise, that’s what happens. I understand Trevor’s a fallible man with emotions that can sometimes cloud judgment. But as a detective, he undoubtedly knows better. He’s not a new law enforcement officer; you don’t become a detective on your second day.

I can’t think of anyone who might be after me, except the man who killed me.

Carrie can only testify that God was with her, she survived! As a pilot in the wilds of Alaska, every day she does what she loves - flying and helping people. Somehow she gets caught up in the search for the missing sister of Detective Trevor West. That’s when her calm existence became an adventure in survival again.

This heart pounding suspense is sure to keep you trying to figure out whether or not the dots can even be connected. Sabotage, fire, murder and non-stop action will keep you on the edge of your seat. Will the missing be found or will they all die? Remembering what the Lord had already brought her through gave the courage to go on.

An early copy was received through Baker Publishing Group, Revell and NetGalley. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.

There is so much to love about this new series by Elizabeth Goddard. Set in Alaska, Goddard takes us on a fast paced adventure with a strong female lead. I really enjoyed both main characters, Carrie James the bush pilot and Trevor West the detective. Both of these had interesting and well thought out back stories. I was very interested in Carrie's back story and would have enjoyed more chapters devoted to it. At times, some of the story felt a bit rushed and a little confusing, and I think this could have been solved by giving us (the readers) a bit more time in Carrie's back story. She is such an interesting character and I liked her a lot!
I think fans of Christian suspense will enjoy this new series by Goddard. I really appreciated the clean romance, even if it felt a little cheesy at times.
