I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
Goddard writes a mystery of a string woman who is a bush pilot. She is on a mission to find her friend’s killer when Trevor West seeks her out to help find his missing sister. The only thing he has for leads is pictures she left him,
As they hunt for answers they run into many dangers, Will they find his sister? Can they outrun the killers? Grab this book for an exciting adventure!
Shadows at Dusk by Elisabeth Goddard was equal parts suspenseful and emotional!
The prologue was very gutting, and I had almost wondered if the story was over for Carrie until I realized she wasn’t the sister Trevor was searching for in Chapter One. Guess that shows how invested I was when opening the book without reading the blurb. The cover and title were intriguing enough to give this story a shot.
Alright, let’s go to the meat of the story. This puzzle had just the right amount of pieces; I appreciate a good mystery and held very little hope that Trevor’s sister was alive. The action sequences were smoothly written, and I enjoyed how Carrie and Trevor slowly came to care for each other.
I had a few good laughs, especially when Carrie ran from the store at their first stop while searching for his sister’s whereabouts. This was sooo not my version of island hopping, but I learned a lot about Alaska and have added it to my list of places to visit. The beautiful scenery sometimes became deadly and added a natural level of organic tension. Fire, explosions, and a plane crash round off the action in the story.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for giving me an ARC copy of this book to read and review. All of these thoughts and comments are my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed the plot of this book, which was full of intense moments. Just when I thought Trevor and Carrie might be out of danger, the author added a new twist, keeping me on the edge of my seat. The vivid descriptions of Alaska's settings were particularly impressive, just like in the first book.
The two main characters were very likable, but both were dealing with personal losses. Trevor was desperate to find his missing sister, who disappeared in Alaska over a year ago. Meanwhile, Carrie was grieving the death of her closest friend, who was also the only person she could trust. Carrie agreed to help Trevor find his sister, but only if he helped her track down her friend's killer. The suspenseful elements of the story started right from the beginning, which I appreciated. The book was a perfect blend of suspense, faith, adventure, danger, and romance, and I highly recommend it. Content: Christian Romance, kissing only.
A special thanks to Revell and NetGalley for the eARC of Shadows at Dusk by Elizabeth Goddard, in exchange for an honest review.
This one caught my attention right away because it starts in Africa! Since I grew up on that continent, it's fun to read stories that are set there. Although most of it is set in Alaska rather than Africa, it's a great story. There's romance, mystery, and suspense. Pilots, explosions, murder and smuggling will make you keep reading!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e-copy of this book! All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Great book! Full of so much suspense right up until the last minute. I love how the characters are slow in warming up to each just like in real life.
This is a great suspense book made even better by the setting: The Alaskan widerness. Carrie is a bush pilot essentially hiding from past trauma in Alaska. Trevor West is a detective from the lower 48 who is in Alaska to look for his sister who disappeared on trip to Alaska a few months earlier. He hires Carrie to take him to places he knows she visited. Carrie's past traumatic circumstances catch up with her on the trek as well as Trevor's sister's trail. There is a lot of nail biting action and close calls in this one as well as some heartstring tugging. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes this type of story.
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my own honest opinion.
From the very beginning of this riveting story, it is obvious there is a wild ride ahead. Ten years earlier, Carrie James, Bush Pilot in Alaska, was pushed out of a plane while in flight. Although it was a miracle she recovered from series injuries, she does not talk about it.
Detective Trevor West has taken leave from his job in Montana to come to Alaska in search of his sister, Jennifer, who over a year ago disappeared while in Alaska. The only clues are some photos of scenery Jennifer left for Trevor in a safety deposit box at a bank. He is looking to hire a Bush Pilot who can identify the locations in the photos and to take him to the remote areas where he suspects Jennifer disappeared.
Carrie is mourning the death of Isaac, a father-figure, dear friend, and business partner. She suspects he was murdered, however, there does not seem to be any straightforward evidence of that. Carrie agrees to help Trevor find his missing sister, or at least discover what happened to her, in exchange for Trevor helping her find who murdered of Isaac.
Together, they embark on the ride of their lives. Carrie’s plane is sabotaged, causing them to crash and nearly drown. They find danger at every turn, including being shot at, kidnapped, fought with, and left to die. They often cry out to God for help.
Once I began reading this enthralling, sometimes heart-pounding story, it was impossible to stop until the last page was turned. If you enjoy exciting, clean, suspense with some romance thrown in, this is a book you will enjoy.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
After his sister has been missing for a year, Detective Trevor West is given a new lead. Last seen in a remote region of Alaska, the police chief recommends a bush pilot to help get him there. Carrie James is still in hiding, hoping her traumatic past is behind her, until it isn't. The two cases intersect and they're caught trying to get ahead of those following them.
Given the trauma she's experienced, Carrie finds purpose in her work. After losing the most important people in her life, this seemed to drive her toward helping find the missing sister. While some of the danger scenes seem a bit implausible, the scenes were well written. His fear of flying is a comical touch.
This is a second book in the series and you briefly meet some of the characters from the first book, but it can be read as a standalone.
*A big thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
Isaiah 42:1-2, 4 are some of my favorite verses and I love that they are interspersed throughout this story. I loved how Trevor cares so much about his sister and longs for justice to be served. Carrie had been through so much but continues to think about others. The suspense was strong in this book and I never knew if a character was good or bad. It definitely kept the story very interesting.
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
As is typical of Elizabeth Goddard’s books, this one starts strong and doesn’t let up! It’s a complex mystery with plenty of twists and turns to keep me guessing, suspense and intensity to keep me turning pages, and emotion and chemistry between characters to keep me engaged. Excellent story with lots of action and plenty of questions. A definite winner and great continuation of the Missing in Alaska series!
detective trevor is in Alaska looking for his sister that has been missing for over a year. the policy advise him to ask carrie if she will help him look. she agrees to help him look for his sister if he will help her find out who killed her friend. there are a lot of attempts to kill them but they keep going this is a very riveting story to the end. i was given a copy of the book by netgalley but this is an honest review. if you like suspense and a clean read you will want to read the book this is a well written story
A complicated plot with many twists and turns that keep the reader turning pages. It was encouraging and exciting to see the characters develop strength and relationships.
A really good clean detective romance story, both Carrie and Trevor have lost someone and team up together to find the killers involved, some intense moments that keep the reader guessing.
Shadows at Dusk is book 2 of the Missing in Alaska Series featuring Police Chief Autumn Long. Although a series this book can definitely be read as a standalone and there are no cliff hanger.
In this one Montana Detective Trevor West is in Alaska searching for his sister who has been missing for a year and meets Bush pilot Carrie James who is brave, a little broken, horribly disillusioned by love, and suffers the loss of a man that was like a father to her.
Carrie agrees to help Trevor find his sister if he helps her find who killed her business partner and best friend. Soon they are fighting for their lives and battling their own personal demons.
I absolutely love Alaskan settings so that really grabbed my attention and the 1st few chapters was like hold on to your chair entertaining, but the middle felt a little slow and picked back up at the end.
I've been a fan of Goodard's since reading her Rocky Mountain Series.
This book has some violence, absolutely no sex scenes and there is scatters of Bible verses which I don't find to be preaching but supporting.
Trevor and Carrie are both searching for something for something. Trevor is searching for his missing sister whereas Carrie is searching for her friend’s killer. The two team up for their respective reasons and find more than they could ever imagine
