Another gritty realistic awesome compelling story by SA Crosby.
I loved this book, and everything this author writes.
This is a police procedural novel is such a powerful crime thriller I could not put it down.
Crosby tackles racism and small town life and nobody tells the story from a black person's perspective like he does.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this audio arc in exchange for my review.
S. A. Cosby is totally an auto-buy author for me. I get to meet him next month. I’m so incredibly excited. He has such a gift for telling stories and tackling hard topics such abuse of power, race, inequality, child sex abuse, etc. His writing seems so effortless.
When I’m reading his work I’m fully immersed in the lives of his characters and I’m fully invested in their stories. They feel so real, so authentic…like people you would know in your day to day life.
His books are gut wrenching and gruesome…if you read his books and don’t feel anything, I’d recommend you check your pulse.
Race is a big piece of this story but it doesn’t overshadow the overall story or take away from it…it adds to the overall atmosphere of what you’re reading…setting the climate for the tough position that the main character, Titus is in. He is Charon County’s 1st black sheriff and trying to change the town for the better to ensure EVERYONE is protected…which is a little difficult when you’re surrounded by people who don’t want you in that role because of the color of your skin.
Titus Crowne is a down to earth man that you’ll root for from start to finish. The scene at the end when he is driving his card and using some ropes laughing actually made me laugh out loud.
Character depth, atmosphere and a solid plot is what you’ll always get with Cosby’s books.
As usual I recommend this one and think it would make a great movie especially the way it ended.
Please make sure you check trigger warnings for this one.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this audiobook ARC! Adam did an amazing job narrating this story and I really enjoyed this one. It was tough to listen to at parts, but in a good way. This was my first read by S.A Cosby and I understand now the hype of his books! I’m not a huge fan of police procedurals, but this felt much more down to earth and easy to follow than others I’ve read before.
I’m looking forward to reading S.A. Cosby’s other books!
SA Cosby has said in multiple interviews that Red Dragon by Thomas Harris and the works of Dennis Lehane were huge influences on him and this is the first of his four books that I've really noticed the connections in his style to those books. All the Sinners Bleed has the general storyline of the fanatic religious serial killer in Red Dragon and the twisting violence of Dennis Lehane. Added onto that he adds most of the issues of our times, with storylines involving BLM protests, the legacy of the confederacy in the south, police shootings, mass killings, school shootings, the list goes on. You'll get a sense of Cosby's thoughts on all the issues of the day through this book.
Luckily for us, he pulls it off. This book manages to be fun the whole way through when it could have got bogged down by the many storylines. The characters are realistic. I think my only issue with the book is that while all the storylines get a decent amount of attention, this is one of the rare books I've read where I think I would have liked if it were longer, maybe even a lot longer. I think parts of this story could have been spun off into other books. Maybe there will be a sequel?
This book is gonna be a hit. Can't wait for Cosby's next.
This is my second book by this author and it was such a good book! S.A. Cosby has quickly become one of my favorite authors.
I'm not going to go into what this book is about but tell you that I HIGHLY recommend this book and all others by this author. They're hard, and dark but absolutely things we need to know about to survive in this world today. We need these books to help us to learn compassion. We need to know the troubles that others face and how lucky some are that never have to face them.
I'll miss these characters.
Read this book!
Oh, and the narrator? Perfect for these books!
Absolutely perfect!
This was a decent read. I felt that the reasoning of the antagonists reasoning for their crimes wasn’t as moving as I would have hoped it would be. That being said, the storyline over all was very interesting. Crosby writing is very smooth and enjoyable. And against, a great choice in narrator.
At the end of the day I would give this 3.5 stars.
This is the third book by S A Cosby that I’ve read and his work just seems to get better and better. In this book Cosby tackles issue of race and racism, and how old prejudices and sins of the past can still come back at us years later.
It’s been a year since Titus Crowne was elected the first black sheriff of Charon County in Virginia and he now faces his biggest challenge. A school shooting by a troubled student has left the schools most popular teacher dead. As the student stands on the front steps of the school holding the gun, Titus tries to get him to surrender, but instead the student is shot by his deputies. As the Sheriff sets up an investigation into the shooting by his deputies, as he promised himself he would do in all department shootings, he also begins an investigation into why the student shot the teacher. Almost immediately he finds some very disturbing and graphic pictures of the teacher with the student and a third man. These photos and other evidence spoons leads to the discovery of the bodies of children and young teens.
As the pressure mounts to find the third person in the pictures Titus must deal with a group of Confederate marchers, and old girlfriend who has brought her true crime podcast to town, and a killer who has set his sights on Titus and those he holds dear. Cosby does a great job of keeping the reader in suspense from the beginning to the epic conclusion. This is easily my favorite of his books and I really enjoyed the others. A definite must read for all.
I went into the audiobook of All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby, narrated by Adam Lazarre-White, with high expectations, yet prepared for it not to live up to the experience of Razorblade Tears. Wow, was I happily surprised that I absolutely loved this new book, and it has now become my favorite of Cosby's novels!
Lazarre-White's narration is stunningly perfect for Cosby's novels, and in this one he embodies the soul of Titus Crowne and brings the other characters to life. He makes it easy for the listener to differentiate between characters, and his deep baritone voice is soothing and pleasing on the ears.
The novel is quite gritty, and though descriptions center on a school shooting, the actual incident is only a small portion of the book. The remainder reads as a police procedural, with Titus and his deputies investigating the deeper story behind the school shooter's actions, and in the process uncovering a much larger concern, and multiple bodies. Readers should be aware there are several detailed descriptions of quite gruesome murders, which are not for the faint of heart--if you are familiar with other Cosby novels, this is not a surprise. Titus Crowne is a fantastic main character, with a backstory that is hinted and finally revealed. I would love to see this novel become the first in a series.
S.A. Cosby is fast becoming a favorite author of mine, and I will continue to prioritize the audio as long as Adam Lazarre-White narrates. It is the perfect pairing.
Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced audiobook of All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby. The opinions in this review are my own.
I love everything SA Cosby writes! All the Sinners Bleed is a gritty crime novel that I could not stop listening to. The main character was easy to like. The narrator is great. Highly recommended!
I was given the opportunity to listen to the audiobook of All The Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby by the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review. This book is outstanding. S.A. Cosby has delivered perhaps the book of the year once again. His previous two releases were also favorites of mine. This story is gripping, dark, and continuously propels forward keeping the reader wondering what is going to happen next until its satisfying conclusion. I loved that ending. S.A. Cosby also does a wonderful job of embedding much needed social commentary into his books, but it never feels forced. It always fits the story and is necessary to make the story work. Just masterful. I would also like to mention that the audiobooks narrator, Adam Lazarre-White was outstanding. If you are into audiobooks, this is a great listen. All The Sinners Bleed will be released on June 6,2023 and I highly encourage you to pick up a copy or listen to the audiobook as I did. I highly recommend it and give this a full 5 stars.
All the Sinners Bleed by S. A. Cosby is a gripping and dark novel that explores social and moral issues. The book follows Titus, a small town sheriff who is haunted by his past and tasked with solving a gruesome crime. The story is told in a raw and honest manner, with vivid descriptions of violence and trauma that may be triggering for some readers.
Cosby's writing is both beautiful and disturbing, with a talent for bringing the reader into the mind of his complex characters. Titus is a particularly fascinating protagonist, a man grappling with the consequences of his actions and the weight of his responsibilities. His journey towards redemption is both heart-wrenching and empowering.
Adam Lazarre-White does an exceptional job as the narrator, bringing the characters to life with his voice and inflection. His delivery captures the essence of the story, conveying the darkness and intensity of the narrative.
Overall, All the Sinners Bleed is a haunting and powerful novel that tackles important themes such as redemption, justice, and trauma. It's not for the faint of heart, but for those who enjoy gritty and thought-provoking fiction, this is a must-read. Cosby is a masterful storyteller, and this book cements his place as one of the most talented writers of our time.
Titus Crowne is the first Black Sheriff in a small southern Virginia town. He is called to the local high school where a teacher has been shot. Titus is attempting to deescalate when his deputies shoot a young Black man who is holding a weapon. The investigation into the shootings lead to dark tragedies being uncovered in this seemingly idyllic country town.
I am a huge fan of procedurals and serial killer thrillers, so I really enjoyed this book. This was my first S.A. Cosby novel and I absolutely loved how he told this story. It was dark, disturbing, and layered with a deep look at our society’s shortcomings when it comes to race, religion, and social injustice. The pacing was perfect throughout, the story kept moving forward and the mystery kept me hooked. Titus was a fully fleshed out character, I was deeply invested in his story and his relationships by the end of the book. I adored Adam Lazarre-White’s narration; I flew through this audiobook in three days. His voice was perfect for this story.
If you love serial killer thrillers and don’t mind graphic descriptions, you should pick this one up! It is both character-driven and plot-driven, tense, and extremely emotional. Check the trigger warnings for sure.
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this ALC!
4.5 rounded up!
I love this author's work. Gritty, real characters. Fast paced action, while still developing a strong story and interactions between the main players. The narrator was fantastic.
After a little over a year in office as the Sheriff of Charon County, Titus Crowne faces his most difficult case, the hunt for a killer uncovered in the aftermath of a shooting at the local school. The shooting rocks the town, but the violent act uncovers even more violence that has been forgotten for years. Titus faces down a vicious killer and is forced to discover the secrets of Charon County before it harms the people he cares about.
S.A. Cosby is one of my favorite current writers, and All the Sinners Bleed met my already high expectations. Cosby did a great job crafting Charon County and its conflicts over race and power that reflect the major issues of today. Cosby creates what could be an ordinary police mystery and elevants it with his focus on the pervasiveness and harm of racism in society and challenges of being an elected leader when many of your constituents hate you because you are Black. Cosby chooses horrific details that create so many memorable scenes and deaths the carry on throughout the book. The novel slowly peels back Titus' character and backstory and those of the town around him, all of which builds to many satisfying twists and conclusions. If you have enjoyed Cosby's previous books, then this one will not let you down, and if you want a Southern mystery with strong themes and characters, then this book will be great for you too.
For the audiobook, Adam Lazarre-White is just an amazing narrator. He voices the various characters in unique and engaging ways, and his characterization of the villain was chilling as he appeared throughout the novel. Lazarre-White elevated Cosby's already great writing to create a very enjoyable audiobook experience.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for a copy of All the Sinners Bleed in exchange for an honest review.
This book was absolutely incredible. S.A Cosby remains to be one of my favorite authors of all time. His writing is exquisite and captivating. He has a way of taking modern day issues and turning them into a beautifully written tale. The first black sheriff in a small town must solve the case of multiple black children who have been brutally murdered. This is a heavy heavy read. Check trigger warnings!
Received E-ARC courtesy of netgalley. OMG!!! This book has everything, I love about S. A. Cosby books. Full of grittiness and lead characters who aren't perfect but you'll love them and want to root for them as they fight for their families and towns and it is timely with what is happening in today's world. It's also full of evil and violence, that could turn your stomach. But it was so darn good, it was hard to stop reading it. If you listen to the audio, Adam Lazarre-White is back as the outstanding narrator and his voice is so perfect for these books.
I’m extremely grateful to NetGalley and Macmillan audio for the advanced audio book for All the Sinners Bleed.
My first SA Cosby book was Razorblade Tears and it was… just wow. So I had high expectations and boy did he deliver.
The book starts with a small school shooting in Virginia. But the book went so much deeper and darker than that. In light of current events and as a parent of small, school-aged children I wasn’t sure if I would be okay. I was. But this novel was gritty, very dark, and hard to digest at times. But it’s one of my top books of the year.
The main character in this book was Titus, the southern town’s first Black sheriff. He came across real, relatable, and someone who you genuinely liked.
Cosby’s ability to write about such big issues, from race to police procedures and social injustice, with such skill is incredible.
Because of the dark themes, I’m certain this novel won’t be for everyone. But it is so, so good.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Post-apocalyptic burnout is real so I picked up this ARC. And then stayed up after work, all night, listening to it. Narrator is absolutely perfect for this story. I’ve read a few of this authors books but this one is his best.
I love Titus. X-FBI turned Deep South sheriff! Seems to be a stand up honest guy. He spends time with his family. Has a GF & a past but always tries to do the right thing.
In walks a serial killer & a town in racial turmoil while he’s under pressure by certain citizens. Tension is high. Will he be able to solve the murders before the next child is taken?
Love the last act!
Such a good book! Recommending the audiobook!!
Thank you NetGalley & Macmillan Audio! Now I need the hardcover for my shelf. Adding it to my Amazon Book WishList!
Pros: I really enjoyed the author’s previous book Razorblade Tears and was excited to read his next book. Although I liked All the Sinners Bleed and can see it maybe becoming the first in a series, it is not as unique/special as Razorblade Tears felt. All the Sinners Bleed is more of a structured police procedural, which is not a bad thing! My favorite part of the reading experience is that I listened to this book and really like Adam Lazarre-White as a narrator. His voice matches up so well with S.A. Cosby’s writing and characters.
Cons: None really. I think this book does just what the author set out to do. I think the reason it is a 3.5 star rather than a 4 star for me is because Razorblade Tears was so great that I went into this book with too high of expectations.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to read this book.
All the Sinners Bleed is an awesome portrayal of down-home, small town Southern life. Our protagonist, Titus Crowne, is a man’s man sheriff of the county of Charon county He also happens to be black which has its own set of problems in the racist county. Titus also has a history as an FBI agent as well as a history of loss and trauma.
I don’t want to goi to the pot too deeply, but suffice it to say it is a rollicking thrill ride I had so much trouble putting this book down and I fell in love with the characters, especially Titus. When the book was over, I truly hoped for a second installment of Titus’ adventures. One caveat, there is gore, racism and language in this book so check your trigger warnings.
