Hasard Lee shares what he has learned in years as a fighter pilot in the Air Force and relates it to decision making in life and in business. Quick thinking and the ability to make the best decision in a moment is essential in his work and he shows how we can use the same techniques in our lives. It is a good tool for leaders.
I listened to the audio and enjoyed it. There is a clip in each chapter told from the cockpit in a realistic setting and then he goes on to explain how we can apply it to our lives and work. I gave it 3.5 stars.
Thank you for NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced audio version of the book.
I read a lot of non-fiction books and this one is wholly unique. In "The Art of Clear Thinking" author Hasard Lee sets the stage for some very tense situations, examining both successful scenarios and tragic ones as well. Without putting pressure on the reader, it's clear how seriously impactful the tips to clear thinking can be.
I know absolutely nothing about planes, etc. so some descriptions were over my head (e.g. I don't have a frame of reference for how far a plane falls when it falls 10k ft per minute) but Lee writes it in a way where the reader understands the urgency and gets sucked into the story. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to sharpen their thoughts process.
"The Art of Clear Thinking: A Fighter Pilot's Guide to Making Tough Decisions" is an international bestseller that takes readers on a thrilling journey into the world of fighter pilots and their unparalleled decision-making skills. Hasard Lee, a seasoned fighter pilot, expertly intertwines firsthand accounts with the ACE Helix framework, providing readers with valuable insights into learning faster, developing mental toughness, and confidently making critical decisions. The book's universal appeal makes it applicable to business and personal life, offering a comprehensive toolkit for success. It is a must-read for anyone seeking to enhance cognitive abilities and navigate uncertainty with clarity and precision.
Thanks so much to #netgalley for this free copy for an honest review.
I went in thinking this would be more of a self-help book, but it is mainly the life of a fighter pilot. With the rise of Top Gun last summer, this book gives an in-depth look at what it actually means to be part of the airforce and the mental strength that's needed. I enjoyed listening to this as an audiobook and found the chapters being recorded mid-flight as an interesting twist.
Thank you to the publish Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to review this ARC of The Art of Clear Thinking via audiobook.
I've always been fascinated by decision making theories, principles and best practices, so this was right up my ally. The author Hasard Lee (who also narrated the audio book) did a fantastic job of discussing how as a fighter pilot and flight instructor he has implemented various strategies of risk versus reward calculations, controlling emotional responses to stress and heuristic thinking to make decisions in his own life. Additionally, examples from various US military engagements over time were used as well.
I very much enjoyed this, and happily give it 4 stars.
I loved the perspectives this book brought. It was gave great insight for decision making. I enjoyed the storytelling format. The book is read like a biography more than a self-help book, but filled with good information.
