I love Enola Holmes and this series! The story is true to the Sherlock Holmes time period. It was very restrictive to and biased against women, but Enola refuses to follow the acceptable guidelines for a young lady in society. She is quick witted and almost fearless in proving herself as an equal to her famous brother. This latest installment has her racing to find a missing man, being short of time because his life is threatened by man and disease. Her investigative style has her hiding in plain sight and impersonating others. Her bold nature finds allies everywhere she goes. This mystery takes her to places that she didn't imagine, but she takes every clue with a turn of the foot and a sprint to the next clue. I enjoyed the historical fact woven into the tale. I cringed at the retelling of Dr. Lister's medical research, but it likely occurred as written, and I can't honestly say that medical research is any more humane today. An action-packed mystery with a dauntless heroine -- I anxiously await the next in the series!!
Clever and fun and perfectly in keeping with the tone of the rest of the series. Although, I feel like not only did we get a fair amount more clothing description this round, but that most of said garments involved ruffles. Do with that what you will.
