This is an amazing story. A whole family you never knew existed, A legacy of mysterious deaths, and an inherited house filled with "family" still there after centuries to help solve a mystery of the rings. This will be a trilogy to keep you on your toes and guessing all the way to the end.
This was sooooooooo very good!!!
I couldn't put it down. The characters, the storyline, the writing... it all sucked me in and didn't let up til I reached the final page.
I cannot wait for the second book!
This was my first Nora Roberts book and I’m sad that i have to wait for the next book in the series! I will definitely be checking out her other books.
This was my first Nora Roberts in 25+ years, so I was excited to get an arc on this one. Thankfully it's only a trilogy but who knows how long I'll have to wait for this continuation and conclusion. I should've remembered that from my NR phase back in the day.
Thank you #netgalley for an arc, that comes out #11-21-2023
I was so excited to receive an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley! This is my honest review.
Inheritance is the first book in The Lost Bride trilogy. The story immediately pulls you in and gets you invested in Sonya's story. She is dealing with a lot in her personal life, including going freelance. The death of an uncle she never knew leads her to an inheritance. That inheritance is a haunted house that she must live in to keep, according to the will. When she arrives at the house, she meets Trey, who is a lawyer and the son of the will's executor. He has a history with the house and Sonya's uncle. They connect and their romance is woven into an incredible story of a curse that has spanned centuries. There is master storytelling and so many great characters, including the house itself. If you like paranormal elements with your romance, this is definitely for you. I read the book quickly and near the end realized the story will be continued in the next book. I need it ASAP!
Let me start off by saying that I love Nora Roberts books!
If you love strong female characters (Sonya & Cleo) then read this book.
If you like haunted houses (but not scary!) read this book.
If you like ghosts, read this book. If you like ghosts with great personalities, read this book. (Don’t want to give anything away!)
If you like cute, sexy guys (Trey & Owen) read this book!
This book is the first in a trilogy and was fantastic! I can’t wait for the other ones to be released.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book for my honest review.
One of the better things she has written lately. Loved the ghost story and the background on the brides. Book caught me right away. Cleo and Mom were a little too perfect. Still good characters. Loved Trey’s family and friends. Sonya is a typical Roberts main character. Always independent and never really has any trauma. The house is a character in itself as is Maine. Wish it didn’t end on a cliffhanger of sorts. Going to be a long time between the books.
First, you should know that this is the first installment in a trilogy. Nora Roberts is the queen of storytellers, with well developed plots and rich characters. In this story she does not disappoint. What a concept when Sonya inherits a Victorian mansion with a centuries long history of a mythical curse and mysterious deaths happening in each generation. To accept, she must reside there for 3 years. The locals call it the Lost Brides Manor and are very accepting of the magical happenings associated with it. Suspenseful with many things (or beings) that go bump in the night, there is also romance between Sonya and Trey that is straight out of a Harlem Romance. As Sonya explores with the help of her best friend and Trey and his cousin, the spirits they encounter are not all welcoming. And, oh my, the cliffhanger at the end took me surprise and leads me clamoring to read the next book to see how this tale unfolds. This book will grab you from the beginning and waiting for then next one. I think when you pick up a book and then can't put it down, it is worthy of 5 stars.
Many thanks to #netgalley #noraroberts #inheritance #st.martinspress for the opportunity to read and review this book.
A supernatural thriller with great characters and a fast paced plot. I can't wait to read the next installment in this series. Highly recommended
What a start to an amazing trilogy.
A haunted house. Ghost brides. Fantastic back story.
It's riviting.
The characters are strong, yet vulnerable at the same time.
The cliffhanger may kill me, waiting for the next book.
Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced copy.
Inheritance is book 1 in The Lost Bride Trilogy by Nora Roberts.
This book had me completely immersed in its captivating narrative.
From the very beginning, the story drew me in with its fascinating storyline and interesting characters.
Of course Roberts writing is just phenomenal. It’s flows so beautifully and keeps me on the edge till the very end.
I’m so ready for book two.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Thank You NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Thanks to the Publisher and the Author for providing a complimentary digital Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this novel via NetGalley. Ms Roberts has done it again. The story line grabs you from the first and keeps your interest throughout the book. The story follows Sonya as she finds she has an uncle she or her family didn’t know about. She inherits his manor but must move there to fulfill the terms of the will. Of course the manor is haunted. I forgot it was a trilogy until the end. You will enjoy this book. As usual it is well written and will definitely be a book I will reread numerous times. I will look forward to the second and third book of the series.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the first in the Lost Bride Trilogy. WOW! This book started right up with the action and never stopped until it left her hanging and waiting for the second in the series. I couldn’t put this book down and had to read it in one sitting. I always enjoy Roberts' writing, how she sets up her stories and the depth of her character development. When I finish the book, I always feel that the main character could be my best friend. The book opens with Astrid Poole in 1806, and where; she is killed right after her wedding vows. This starts the curse that will follow the Poole families throughout the generations. We then jump to the present, meeting Sonya, a graphic designer. She just discovered that her fiancé, Brandon, is cheating with her cousin. Sonya dumps him and cancels the wedding, but things become difficult at work because Brandon and Sonya work at the same company. Sonya decides to leave her job and start up her own company. She then finds out that her father had a twin brother who just passed away and left his money and his estate in Maine to her on the condition that she lives there for three years. Sophie decides to try a trial for 3-months before committing. She also wants to learn more about her father’s family and this haunted mansion. Read to find out if the mansion is haunted and whether or not Sophie finds more information on a family she never knew about.
From the very start of the book I knew I was not going to be able to put it down.
The book starts with a very thrilling and yet horrible beginning that has you begging for answers. As you read you learn that this story isn’t just about one life but many that are intertwined and to get answers they will have to first go to the past to discover the truth!
I love the characters, the mystery and intrigue. I am dying for the next book because that ending left me speechless!
Oh my! This book kept the wow moments coming. From Sonya finding her fiance in bed with her cousin to Sonya pulling an Alice and going through the looking glass, this delivered on the drama, the humor, and the chills. The characters are colorful and much braver than I could dream of being. Inheritance here seems to refer to family, a house, and history. Discovering family members you didn't know you had can be a blessing or a curse. This family comes with a centuries-old curse that refuses to let go. The house and its inhabitants are vital parts of the story and I look forward to learning more about the entire backstory. Please bring on the next installment. I need to know what's next. I'm sure someone is going to come up with a solution for the curse.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an e-arc in exchange for an unbiased review.
This is the first book in The Lost Bride Trilogy. As it ends in a cliffhanger, you will need to read Book 2 as soon as it's available. As this is a very engaging and suspenseful page turner, I can't wait for the next book.
Sonya unexpectedly learns that a previously unknown uncle - her late father's twin brother - has died and left her a sizeable inheritance, featuring a manor on the coast of Maine. In order to claim her legacy, she needs to move and live in the manor for 3 years. When she arrives, she experiences different phenomena, including spirits who play music that fits with what's happening at the moment, turn on fires, clean up dishes, make her bed, etc. She also sees shadows on the widows walk and dreams of events in the house's past. She comes to accept that the manor is haunted and is intrigued by the mystery of the lost brides. The house is somewhat infamous as the site of the death of 7 brides.
In between the spooky events, we get to know the town of Poole's Bay and its residents, see Sonya in action as she builds her business as a graphic artist, and meet Sonya's mother, best friend, and handsome love interest.
Roberts has written a compelling mystery and created a very appealing heroine and cast of supporting characters.
If there is anything that is an "auto buy" for me, it's a Nora Robert book - but especially if it's a Nora Roberts TRILOGY, so I jumped at a chance to read Inheritance.
And now I just might be regretting that, if only because this won't be released until November, and that means I have SUCH a longer wait for the next book in the series.
Seriously, the waiting is the worst part about reading her trilogies, and INHERITANCE does not disappoint. It's a mix of my favorite elements of Nora's supernatural trilogies - a bit of supernatural ghosty stuff, some romance, and family/generational drama.
Where Roberts shines in this book are the characters, as well as the fun introduction of the ghosts that haunt the house that Sonya has inherited. If it weren't for the evil witchy ghost whose terrorizing her, I could appreciate all the other ghosts in the manor - they are delightful, mostly, and it makes it for a very fun read.
Many of Nora's trilogies seem to wrap up part of a storyline with one couple, ending in a small cliffhanger around the main story arc leaving you wanting more, and then the next book would focus on the next couple in the group that has found each other while they all work to resolve the many story arc.
But since this is the story about a ghost who kills a bride on her wedding day, that would be problematic for our MC. This first party of Sonya's story really sets up everything - and then ends on a big cliffhanger. (I saw the percentage left on my kindle and KNEW the book was headed toward something that would make me yell in frustration. It did. In a good way. I'm not a patient reader.)
TLDR: This is a book for romance fans who like their books with a bit of a supernatural twist. It has a fantastic setting, great characters, lots of twists and scares. If you've read a lot of Nora's romance trilogies, this has a wee bit of a different feel to it.
HOWEVER: if you aren't a fan of cliffhangers - be warned that this one ends on a big one.
After a betrayal that changed the course of her love and professional life, Sonya MacTavish receives the news that turns her already shaken life upside down. Learning her father had a twin brother, who left her not only a manor on the coast of Maine but her family's history and more is a game changer. Sonia falls in love with the manor the instant she sees it. It is massive, gorgeous, and haunted. But Sonia is far from alone in this gripping mystery. Trey, the young lawyer, that greets her at the manor soon becomes her rock and more. Known as the lost bride manor, her home is inhabited by many ghosts with tragic pasts. Murder piles on as Sonia dreams of her dead relatives. But as the manor and most of its inhabitants welcome Sonia into their world, she learns of lost love, lost life, and a curse that she is destined to break. With a little help from her friends and more than one friendly ghost, Sonia embarks on a journey across place and time to defeat the one that started it all. I was pressed to stop reading each night about Sonia, the manor, its inhabitants (not all good), the family and friends she never expected to find, and the beautiful coast of Maine, all brewing up to an enchanting tale that I can't wait to unravel. I can't wait for books 2 and 3 to find out what comes next! I definitely recommend this one!
Wow. Just wow. Let me start by saying that 98% of my reading these days is done via audiobook but I jumped at getting my hands on an early ARC of Inheritance, even though the audiobook of same is already pre-ordered. And it did not disappoint. This book totally pulled me out of my normal routine and kept me occupied for hours. I read the entire thing in two sittings. If I had started it earlier on the first day, I probably would have made it through in a single sitting. As always, Dame Nora has crafted a story that’s filled with people you want to know and places you want to go. There’s a haunted manor situated on the cliffs overlooking the sea, an inheritance from an unknown relative, a curse that needs to be broken. All of these are woven together with the story of lost brides and an evil, jealous witch who just won’t leave well enough alone. There are friendships, old and new, the start and promise of relationships to come, there is art and music, love and laughter facing off against the events and evil woven through the past two hundred years. The only downside is that, as is typical of Nora’s November releases, this is only the first book in what is sure to be a trilogy. As such, it’s disgruntling to know that there’s more than a year to wait in order to get the next installment and see what happens next with Sonya, Trey, Cleo, and Owen, not to mention the others in the village of Poole’s Bay. However, that book will be preordered as soon as it’s available to do so.
The first Nora Roberts book I ever read was "The Reef." I was home with the flu in high school, and my mom's best friend bought it for me to read. I didn't become a huge Nora Roberts fan until I graduated college; however, once I did I started to literally mark releases on my calendar. I typically wait until the third trilogy book is released to read the whole series; however, I was still very excited to get a chance to read the first book in the new “Lost Brides” series.
Pros: Although there were some things in the book I could see coming, for the most part I have been completely caught up in the action and storyline of the book. It is a solid first book that introduces characters that I am going to be excited to read about in the next books.
Cons: Not to spoil anything, but this book DEFINITELY ends on a cliff hanger. I hate that I have to wait a year to see what happens next.
All in all, this was an amazing first book of the series, and I wish I had more to read. I will be anxiously anticipating book two!
