I haven’t read all of the books in the Temperance Brennan series and that’s what’s great about them, you can read each one as a standalone. Temperance is a forensic anthropologist and she’s on a case on the islands of Turks and Caicos. Another riveting thriller from Kathy Reichs.

If you thought forensic anthropology meant quiet days in a lab dusting off bones, "The Bone Hacker" is here to remind you that Tempe Brennan's life is not that simple. One minute, she's examining a body that got zapped by lightning in Montreal; the next, she’s shipped off to the Turks and Caicos to investigate a string of young men who have mysteriously vanished. Now, instead of enjoying a piña colada on the beach like a normal person, Tempe is knee-deep in a case that involves cybercrime, hacking, and—of course—bones turning up where they shouldn’t.

Reichs delivers everything you expect from a Tempe Brennan novel: sharp forensic details, breakneck pacing, and Tempe’s dry, no-nonsense humor as she pieces together the puzzle. The setting might be postcard-worthy, but the case is anything but a vacation. The ever-charming Andrew Ryan makes an appearance, adding his usual mix of wit and will-they-won’t-they energy to the story. If you’re new to the series, you can jump in without too much backtracking—Reichs gives you enough context to follow along, though long-time fans will catch more of the character dynamics and inside references.

The science is compelling, the mystery is layered (if a bit packed with subplots), and Tempe is, as always, a chaotic but brilliant force. The cybercrime element gives this one a modern, techy twist, though it occasionally drifts into “Wait, what now?” territory. Still, if you're here for a tropical murder mystery with Reichs’ signature blend of forensic deep-dives and dark humor, this one delivers. A solid four out of five stars—because nothing says relaxing beach read like homicide and human remains.

The Bone Hacker, by Kathy Reichs, is her 22nd novel in her Temperance Brennan series. I was excited to read this new installment, as I have read many of her previous novels in this series. Reichs certainly didn’t disappoint! From the seemingly perilous beginning, to the suspenseful ending, The Bone Hacker grabs the reader’s attention as Reichs crafts an incredible story filled with constant suspense and surprising twists and turns.
When Tempe is examining the body of a young man who supposedly died when hit by lightening, she discovers much more than the eye can see. Finding a tattoo with origins in the Turks and Caicos Islands, Tempe informs the officials on the island and an investigation ensues.
Tempe is requested to come to the island to assist in a case involving the disappearance of young tourists. At first, it’s a little confusing with so many characters, however, Reichs interweaves all the characters and sub plots together for a fantastic, if slightly abrupt, ending.
Reichs uses a very interesting writing technique in which she leaves a little bombshell at the end of each chapter that absolutely compels the reader to continue. I read this book in one sitting and enjoyed every page. I give this novel a 4 out of 4 star rating.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Kathy Reichs, and Schribner Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC. I leave a voluntary and honest review.

This is one of my favorite series, and The Bone Hacker did not disappoint! I have been reading this series since I found it while looking for anything "Bones" related after the television series ended.
I'll definitely keep recommending this series as this book was fantastic just like the 21 before it.

I wish that Temperance would have been in Canada and had more of her regular crew around. I liked the story, the action and the intrigue. I liked that there were some surprises in the story.

The Bone Hacker (Temperance Brennan #22) by Kathy Reichs is a fast paced thriller which finds Tempe caught up trying to figure out why young men are disappearing on the island of Turks & Caicos. The first victim disappeared 7 years ago and as the years pass more victims are found. There is no significant connection between the victims and each body is found in different spots, they have no criminal ties. Tempe is trying her best to piece it together, one clue at a time. Is it island gang culture, or is it bigger than the island? Tempe is up against the clock to figure this out and as time is running out she finds she may be the next target. The Bone Hacker, is a great addition to this series. Reichs knows how to write suspense novels, that makes you not want to put the book down until you know how it ends. This was a four star read for me. I always take the opportunity to read a Reichs novel. I want to thank, Netgalley, the author & Scribner for my copy for an honest review. It was my pleasure to read and review this book.

First and foremost, a large thank you to NetGalley, Kathy Reichs, and Simon & Schuster for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to give you an unbiased review.
Location Turks and Caicos, Tempe is pulled into a mystery when parts of a body are found that were struck by lightning however a tattoo on the body piques Tempe's interest, which leads to a much larger case linked to possible local gang activity.
Young men—tourists—have been disappearing on the islands of Turks and Caicos for years. Seven years ago, the first victim was found in a strange location with both hands cut off, This was a quick read, and interesting especially if you are a fan of the TV show Bones. Highly Recommend!

Temperance Brennan travels from Canada to the islands of Turks and Caicos, after the examination of a body thought to be struck by lightning turns out to be a citizen of the aforementioned country. Instead of briefing the family and flying home, Tempe becomes involved in the disappearances of young men under suspicious circumstances. As the investigation continues, will Tempe and the local police face unknown dangers?

As a huge fan of Kathy Reichs and the Temperance Brennan novels, I was not surprised as to the path that the novel took. I was a little disappointed as to the straightforwardness of the plot and the expected ending. I liked The Bone Hacker, but I just did not love it. It felt more like a path forward to more books instead of its own entity.

Readers who are new to the series should start from the beginning, as the character development is much more apparent earlier on than with book 22. Overall, as a fan of the character, I will read more of the series, but The Bone Hacker sadly is not one of my favorites.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this novel was entirely my own.

Another great Temperance Brennan novel. I am so excited when a new one is released. Tempe is called to investigate the death of a man that appears to have been struck by lightning. She finds that young men have been coming up missing on Turks and Caicos. If you're a fan of Kathy Reichs, you know how fast-paced her books can be. It's always a surprise finding out what is really happening. I really enjoy learning more about forensic anthropology through these books.

Over a seven year period, tourists have disappeared and later murdered on the islands of Turks and Caicos. None seem to have anything in common but the illustrious Temperance Brennan hopes examining the bodies will shed some light on what connects the victims.

The Bone Hacker is the twenty-second book in the widely popular Temperance Brennan series. This crime thriller can be read as a stand-alone.

Tempe never can stay in one place for too long can she. None of her cases are ever simple and the storyline of The Bone Hacker is packed with twists. I was hooked from the first chapter! The Temperance Brennan series continues to be an outstanding, suspenseful crime series. The author’s own forensics background gives these books outstanding detail that you just won’t find in any other series of this nature.

I’ve read almost every book in this series up to this point and still look forward to every new release. I look forward to seeing where the author takes Tempe Brennan next.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am a huge fan of the Temperance Brennan series. But this book I wasn't to crazy about. I felt like the writing was a bit dry and a bit hard to follow along with all the French words. I will still continue to read the temperance Brennan series and really looking forward to the new book n the series titled Fire and Bones.

Called in to examine what is left of a person thought to have been struck by lightning, Tempe traces an unusual tattoo to its source and is soon embroiled in a much larger case. Young men—tourists—have been disappearing on the islands of Turks and Caicos. Seven years earlier, the first victim was found in a strange location with his left hand hacked off; subsequently, two other visitors vanished without a trace. But recently, tantalizing leads have emerged and only Tempe can unravel them. This is 22nd in the series and it just keeps getting better. I couldn't put this down and it kept me guessing until the very satisfying ending.

In her twenty-second installment of the Temperance Brennan series, Kathy Reichs delivers a masterclass in suspense with "The Bone Hacker." This high-stakes thriller takes readers on a journey to the picturesque yet perilous islands of Turks and Caicos, where a series of bizarre disappearances sets the stage for a narrative replete with intrigue and forensic detail.

Forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, affectionately known as Tempe, is called upon to investigate a body struck by lightning. However, the case quickly spirals into a complex web of mysteries involving missing tourists, each with an unusual tattoo marking them as part of a sinister puzzle. Reichs, a forensic anthropologist herself, imbues the narrative with authenticity, crafting a story that is as educational as it is enthralling.

The narrative's strength lies in its protagonist. Tempe is a character of great depth and intelligence, whose emotional detachment is balanced by her unwavering integrity. Her relationship with Lieutenant-detective Andrew Ryan adds a personal dimension to the story, grounding the scientific aspects with human emotion.

Reichs' expertise shines through in the meticulous descriptions of forensic procedures, making "The Bone Hacker" not just a tale of suspense but a window into the life of a forensic anthropologist. The plot is a labyrinthine mix of gang violence, global technology threats, and the ticking clock of a menacing countdown, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.

What sets this novel apart is its ability to maintain freshness in a long-standing series. Long-time fans will find the evolution of characters and plotlines satisfying, while newcomers can jump right in, thanks to Reichs' skillful storytelling.

In conclusion, "The Bone Hacker" is a testament to Kathy Reichs' prowess as a writer and her ability to weave forensic science into a gripping narrative. It's a must-read for mystery and thriller enthusiasts, promising a journey filled with twists and turns that only Temperance Brennan can navigate.

Genre: crime fiction
Quick summary: A distinctive tattoo on a victim leads forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan to Turks and Caicos, where she finds herself desperate to solve a series of brutal crimes...before she becomes a victim.

I was looking for a beach-set read, and this book fit the bill! I love how Reichs wrote Turks and Caicos - I've never been, but I felt like I was there. The mystery was compelling and complex (similar to an episode of the TV series the books inspired). This is a fun mystery to read on the beach (or to get you in the mood for your beach vacation)!

Thank you to Scribner for providing an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4 stars because it took me right back to beautiful Caicos. Tempe and Ryan have finally moved in together only to be assigned to separate cases. Ryan stays in Montreal and works with his old office to solve random shootings but Tempe goes to paradise; Turks and Caico...and murder. Big thumbs up for mentioning Da Conch Shack, the extremely beautiful Grace Bay, and pupcakes! Wish I was there again!

The Bone Hacker
By Kathy Reichs
Review and Rating 4 ⭐️

I was so excited to receive the eARC of The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs and it certainly did not disappoint! I have followed the exploits of forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan from the beginning of the series and this twenty-second entry is an interesting addition.
Here Tempe splits her time between Montreal and the islands of Turks and Caicos. She investigates mysterious disappearances of tourists in the islands. Andrew Ryan, her significant other, provides some face time. As usual, plenty of mystery and danger await Tempe as she races to solve the case.
Kathy Reichs takes you right back into the world of Temperance Brennan and keeps you on the edge of your seat at the same time. The Bone Hacker can definitely be read as a standalone but I highly recommend the whole series. 4 ⭐️

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Tempe is called to investigate some unusual killings in a new location: Turks and Caicos. Normally when a longtime series character gets plopped someplace new and dramatically different, it shakes things up and adds an extra dimension of interest to the story. That's true at one level, but despite the novel tropical surroundings I still found this story less compelling than usual for this popular series. Tempe is appealing and does her usual expert job of piecing together obscure clues, so the plot does move along—just not in a way that kept me reading late into the night.

Thanks to Netgalley and Scribner for a digital advance review copy.
