Just as Temperance Brennan thinks life with her beau Ryan is settling down into domestic bliss, she get a call to investigate the remains of a young man who is thought to have been a victim of a lightening strike -falling to his death into the St. Lawrence River. But, the remains don't add up for Tempe who suspects something else caused this death. When a possible connection is found to gangs in the Caribbean, Tempe is brought to the island only to find more suspicious deaths; including that of the local lead investigator. When Tempe is attacked, the investigation boosts into high gear as this is no longer a local gang action but something that could prove to be an international catastrophe.
As with all of Kathy Reichs's novels about forensic anthropologist, Temperance Brennan, readers will try to puzzle out the who, what and why before the connections are revealed. This one will keep readers guessing until the very end. For fans of the series.

I've read all the Temperance Brennan books and I wanted to love this one. I didn't hate it, but it didn't overwhelm me either. Tempe starts off in Montreal, but quickly ends up working on a case in Turks and Caicos. I definitely enjoy a good tropical locale! However, multiple cases and too many periphery characters muddle the plot. In my opinion, the serial killer on it's own would have made a strong story. My main frustration is that a solid chunk of the book is someone giving an acronym or abbreviation and Tempe either clarifying the full name or asking for the full name. Just give the full name. It feels like a way to add words and makes Tempe seem unintelligent. For a few books now it's really felt like Tempe isn't all that into Ryan. I'd love to see the heat cranked up on that relationship or for her to cut him loose and move on. Not a bad book, just not the best of the Brennans.

I liked the forensic anthropology descriptions. I didn't know who the killer was. My favorite characters are: Tiersa Musgrove, Dr. Harvey Lindstrom, and Birdie the cat.

I received an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

Not my favorite of the series. This was quite broad reaching but very slow to get started and lots and lots of filler. Still, readable and plenty of twists if you can slog through the beginning to get to it

Kathy Reichs returns with her 22nd thriller, The Bone Hacker, featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. Temperance is following a series of bizarre disappearances on the islands of Turks and Caicos.

The location and descriptions are nice. Took me a bit to get invested in the story, but once it got started, the twists and turns and action kept me turning the pages.

The scientific explanations were done with the reader in mind and were easy to understand. The plot was interesting. A good addition to the series.

It’s been years since I’ve read her books but this was a good one overall . I loved the setting and the characters and it was a good return to Reichs world. It’s amazing that she continues to deliver such good books after all this time. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review the book

My thanks to Net Galley, Scribner, and the personal invitation I received to review this book.

I was disappointed in this. I've read these books for years, but this felt like it was a different writer. I liked the earlier books where dead body found, and Tempy and Ryan solve who did it. Not in this one. SO much going on and not one focus. Temp has a body struck by lightening allegedly, dead babies, a murdered colleague, dead bodies on a boat that ties in to a serial.killer that hacks hands off AND cyber attacks. What was this supposed to be? Can't recommend.

What happened Kathy Reichs?
I used to be such a fan of your books.

Then I read this. WOW! Night and day difference.
This book left a lot to be desired.

First, No one would fly from the Turks and Caicos to invite a forensic anthropologist to their country to solve murders.
Second, Temperance would NEVER be allowed to tag along with an active homicide investigation like she was allowed to with Detective Monck.
Third, the plot was so thin I could see daylight through it.
Fourth, about 20% of this book is full of questions that Temperance is asking herself, then of a dream. This is just sloppy writing.

For me, this book fell flat on all sorts of levels. This is not to the standard that I have come to love from the author.

Overall a bad Temperance book.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Scribner for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Considering that this is #22 in a series, I am always surprised by the interesting plots. Tempe Brennan is in Turks & Caicos and the suspense and drama don't stop. Her new friend (of which she knows literally nothing personal) Detective Delroy Monck is abrupt and interesting. A truly enjoyable read, and if you like Ryan he pops in as well. 4 stars

I admit that I am always down for a Kathy Reichs book. They may not be high fiction but they are very entertaining and always good reads. This one was no exception. There was a lot going on, even more than usual for a Tempe Brennan story, and I couldn’t figure out how it would all get tied together in the end, though I did figure out elements of the plot before the end. Overall, definitely a fun read that I would recommend to anyone looking for a good mystery with a bit of a thrill.

I would like to thank the publisher, author, and netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

It feels like it has been ages since a new Kathy Reichs book came out. I simply devour them!

A man is found dead suspected to have been hit by lightning. He was found tangled in the propeller of a fishing boat, and in other places. Tempe and her boss soon discover that he was instead shot. He was an illegal alien in Canada and hailed from the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Telephoning the islands, Tempe is connected with the superintendent of the police force, a woman named Ti Musgrave. She insists on flying to Quebec. She has more on her mind than just the dead man.

Ti tells Tempe about missing tourists. Two skeletons have recently been found. Tempe is intrigued and agrees to go to the islands.

So begins the latest thrilling adventures in the very adventurous life of Dr. Temperance Brennan. Getting along quite well, the two women set about investigating the deaths. Tempe meets Detective Monck. Monck is somewhat Claudel-like. (Frequent readers will understand the similarity.) But, I believe I like Monck better.

There is much going on in the islands. Some of it seems unrelated, some of it not. Monck and Ti are pursuing leads while Tempe is in the laboratory pursuing bones and finding more clues in them.

This book moves apace. It is filled with tension. Ms. Reichs knows just how to slowly increase it. I appreciate Tempe’s little asides to herself when she catches herself on things she should not say aloud. The cast of characters grows with the inclusion of none other than the FBI. This book is a very satisfying read and an outstanding addition to the series. I will continue to read Ms. Reichs’ novels.

I want to thank NetGalley and Scribner for forwarding to me a copy of this wonderful book for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed in this review are solely my own.

I loved it! This is one of my favorite series and I pre-ordered it without pause. I was a bit rattled when it was revealed how and why some of the deaths occurred. It's unsettling what can be done in this day and age. This author is excellent at weaving sporadic tie-ins throughout with the characters and locale and her job. I look forward to a new installment every year.

Another edge of you seat Brennan book. Excellent aspect of mystery and truly thrilling action. She has a real knack for weaving multiple stories together.

Tempe Brennan is back, and working both in Montreal and in Turks and Caico, investigating the murders of several young men which seem to be connected. Also, a boat full of men on Turks and Caico are found drifting off the islands, with the men mysteriously dead. Brennan finds herself the target of a hotel room invasion, and has to find the perpetrators of all this mayhem.

I love this series and I anxiously await every one of them. Years ago my grandmother got me hooked on Book 1 and I haven't stopped reading them yet! Each one gets better and better in my opinion and this one is so good. Original story line and it hooks you and keeps you hooked til the end!!
I just reviewed The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs. #NetGalley

Well, that's definitely a way to start a book. Yeesh, what a prologue.

It all starts with a dead guy, as usual. This time in Montreal. But, soon, Tempe finds herself in Turks and Caicos. And she gets caught up in a bunch of cases it seems. Some seriously intense cases for sure, but, also very interesting forensically.

I have to say that I actually liked the Detective that she works the cases with. And that almost never happens in these Tempe mysteries. The Monk was unique for sure, but, there was something about him that I actually sorta liked. And, of course, the forensic stuff was great as always. It was a fun read, and I definitely liked it better than some of her more recent entries in the series.

4 out of 5 stars - If you ask me, I'll tell you to read it.

Yet another great book in the "Bones" series! In this installment, Tempe is headed to Turks and Caicos to help out with an investigation that may be tied to an investigation she is working on in Montreal. I enjoyed reading about a new, exotic location that I have never been to. This one kept me on my toes with the end being mostly a surprise! I always love it when the ending is something I can't figure out right away.

Another solid entry in the Temperance Brennan series. Interesting mystery and concepts presented, and delightful setting. Made me want to book a tropical vacation ASAP.

I was bummed with the early departure of Musgrove, but mollified by the appearance of Monke to fill the vacancy.

I always enjoy the Tempe series stories. This one had a different feel as Tempe travels to Turk and Caicos to help solve a murder and chaos ensues. I enjoyed the local police detectives Monck and Musgrove and found the mystery to be a good one.
